I ordered takeout so cannot speak on the ambiance of the restaurant, but was unfortunately disappointed when I got home and opened my meal. The curry was a very small portion. It came with a side salad which included sad brown lettuce and one slice of tomato. The side was a peanut sauce which was overly oily for my taste without the spice I was hoping for. The rice was well cooked and plentiful! The sticky rice dessert was just okay as well. The coconut milk sauce was delicious but could've done with more. The food was ready fairly quickly so if you want a quick small lunch I would recommend but I still was hungry after both the main and dessert which is rare for me. read more

I love Satay. I come here pretty frequently because I go to school in the area, and am never disappointed by their Pad Thai. The service is always quick and nice at the counter. Never had any complaints about ordering however there is limited indoor seating and I've always had to wait for a table after ordering. The restaurant is on the smaller side inside and always pretty packed around dinner time. It has a community vibe in there with lots of pictures of customers on the walls and cheesy decor. Now for the food... I crave their chicken Pad Thai constantly. It is so good, you get a lot for your money, and so filling!!! I would 100% recommend it to anyone trying Satay for the first time. Just a note though, they do serve it with some crushed peanuts sprinkled in a corner, so if you have an allergy make sure to tell the cashier when ordering. Stopped in here for lunch after visits Centennial Park. It's a cute little hole in the wall that is unique decorated with pictures of last patrons across all its walls. Sat down and ordered the garlic and pepper tofu with medium spice. It came with a nice side salad with a peanut sauce dressing, white rice, and a small vegetable soup. Each bite from the soup to the salad to the tofu was delicious. The workers were wonderful and super nice. They provided great service. I am very happy to have found this spot. read more

I came here for lunch after spending a few hours at Centennial Sportplex next door. I wanted Asian food and this was the closest that I could find. It's your typical Thai place with traditional Thai dishes. It's fast casual (order at a counter and then sit down). Pad Thai is usually my go-to for a first visit at a Thai place. Pad Thai is a funny dish because it's never the same across various Thai restaurants. Kind of like General Tso's chicken from when Chinese restaurants were a thing. It came with a choice of soup or salad, spring roll, and the entree itself. I opted for the soup but it was unlike any soup I ever had. It was actually delicious and I basically chugged it right out of the cup (I am a soup person). It did have some type of squash in it but I don't really know what all the ingredients were because it was mostly broth. The spring roll was your typical spring roll. Fried golden brown with a piping hot vegetable filling. The Pad Thai was ordered mild with chicken, had a nice tang to it and the sauce had just the right amount of oil (not too greasy). There were only a few pieces of chicken in it, so I felt like I was eating mostly noodles but it tasted good nevertheless. I'm sure it attracts a lot of college kids since it's close to Vandy. We swung by Satay Thai a few weeks back on a weekday evening as we were craving Thai food. Satay Thai is located close to the Parthenon off of Elliston Place. It is tucked away in a small complex that shares space with other restaurants, such as Roma Pizza and Poke Bros. Although I have driven by the area many times, I had never noticed Satay Thai prior to finding them online. When we arrived around 5:30pm, it was not too busy. The service was quick and efficient. Satay Thai is a no frills restaurant where you order at the counter and the food is brought out to you quickly on paper plates and bowls. We ordered the Satay beef skewers (comes with 4), spring rolls (comes with 2), panang curry, and drunken noodles w/ beef. The food was delicious. The skewers were tasty with a sweet peanut sauce to dip in. The panang curry had some spice that was not too overpowering for us. And the drunken noodles were cooked very well with a savory taste that left me wanting more! It's not common for us to finish all of our food, but we pushed through easily given how tasty everything was! The food was also fairly reasonably priced compared to other Thai restaurants we have been to (main dishes are approx ~15 and apps are approx ~5-10). We will be back! read more

The service here is really poor. I did cater from Satay 3 times now and had so many issues that now i switched to another Thai restaurant. The portions here are small. I ordered 5 large trays of food but the trays are only one third full. Why label it as large tray when it is not even a small tray? The food was probably cooked 3-4 hours before we picked it up. All the food was cold at the time we picked up. On top of everything, they are way more expensive compared to other Thai restaurants in the area, especially given the quality of food you get here. Got takeout from Grubhub, food was ready when I arrived at noon. Got the pad kee mao with tofu, spring roll, spicy level 5, added baby corn and mushrooms, and asked for no bamboo. A small container of soup came with it as well, but it didn't really have any flavor. The spring roll was piping hot and delicious, I think I picked up my food right after they made it so my noodles were still hot too. Upon first bite, it was quite good - flavor was there, noodles were chewy, good ratio of vegetables and noodles. But as I ate more, the oil started seeping out and it was really gross. There was a puddle of oil at the bottom and I tipped my container sideways to get it out - there was at least a spoonful or two of it at the bottom. As I ate more, I could taste the oil covering the noodles and veggies, what a pity. The mushrooms were canned and so was the corn, while the bell pepper and zucchini was fresh; I wish the mushrooms were fresh. Well-priced too at $11.50 pre-tax pre-tip, pretty good portions, just way too much oil, eek. Also, looking at the photos, this spot only uses one-time use plates, bowls, and utensils, and I really don't like restaurants that don't take the environment into account. I can't even remember how many times I've been here with friends on weekends or after class on a weekday. As a result, there's miserably long waits (though you can get around this by calling ahead) and some food preparation seems rushed. When it comes to spice levels in particular, Satay seems to have no standards--order a 4 and you'll get anything from a pleasantly spicy dish to something borderline inedible. Unfortunately ate here today and thought the chicken friend rice was spicy, I noticed the temperature was not cooked to order upon receipt. I was pleased when my food was quite quickly delivered to my table. I literally sat down and it was delivered. But as other customers were seated, I noticed other customers getting soup, noodles and rice dishes piping hot made me question my dish. Upon inquiring I was told noodles exude more steam but the server didn't consider all the orders I was surrounded by in the restaurant which included soup, noodle and rice dishes. I was one of two people in the restaurant dining in and won't be back because the normal should have been to cook to order. I ordered a Pad see Ew ( I order this dish at every Thai place I go to!), the price was reasonable, and the it came to my table very fast. I've been living in Nashville for 7 years now, and from college til now this place is embedded in the fabric of my being. Not only is almost everything on the menu extremely tasty, but it's reasonably priced (esp for students). My usuals alternate between the Pad See Ew and the Drunken Noodles paired with a spring roll ~ if I'm feeling extra hungry I'll order the Chicken or Beef skewers as an appetizer. I'm a spice lover so I stay in the 3-5 range of Spice Level, but would recommend going lower (1-2) if you don't like the heat. The Crispy Basil chicken is a winner, too. Also, (and probably my favorite part of this restaurant) the owners have pictures along the walls of their regular customers - which to me, says everything about how much they love taking care of us!! It's smaller, so at certain times, expect to participate in the sprinting event for a table. It's a 5 minute walk from Vandys campus and Centennial Park so convenience-wise (and taste-wise)? Y'all can't touch this. I would end this review by saying "I'll be coming back" but I think I've lost count. For all those complaining go live in LA for a few years and experience the quality of service at similar restaurants and you'll realize how much this place shines. First the employee who took my order greeted me warmly as he was ringing up his current customer- woah! You don't always get acknowledgment like that in a lot of stores and restaurants ! And he was very friendly and quick. He also gave me a water to drink while I was waiting for my to go order. That's so thoughtful! Most small restaurants taking to go orders are not this friendly and fast! But when I tried the food I was also so pleased! I ordered the pork skewers with peanut sauce. They are expertly cooked, just the right amount of crispy and juicy . The peanut sauce has a great flavor and wasn't spicy, which works for me. I also got a Thai tea smoothie , which tasted great on the hot day. For a more authentic Thai tea I'd say the regular milk tea would be best, but I just wanted a coffee version .
