Wasabi & Ginger
Alan S.

Sashimi is a sushi restaurant located at the corner of Lake Forest Drive and Dimension Drive. It appears to be run by a Korean family and is a popular spot among the locals. They have a sushi bar, but we opted to dine at a table. Steve greeted us and was not only friendly and helpful, but his service level enhanced our overall dining experience. We tried a number of dishes during our visit. Among my favorites were the Veggie Tempura, Salmon Nigiri, Lake Forest Roll (I appreciate that they allow substitutions so I subbed spicy yellowtail in place of the spicy tuna) and Special Carpaccio S. The Spicy Salmon cut roll was nothing special and tasted more like a California Roll. The Yellowtail Cheek was good, but it was more meaty and less tender than I've enjoyed at other Japanese restaurants. My wife ordered the Pink Lady, but I prefer my sushi with rice. All in all, we enjoyed our Sashimi experience and I'd recommend checking it out if you're in Lake Forest and in the mood for raw fish at a reasonable price.

Came here on a Friday night around 4:30-5pm. Greeted by the servers quickly and kindly, sat at any table we would like which was nice. Place seems older and do expect the older crowd of Lake Forest to be lurking around at this time (not a bad thing lol). Sushi was goodish, though they charged alittle much for the quality of fish they were using and the roll styles they were making. We got 6 rolls and 2 misos and payed 114$...kinda pricy for the quality. Would have preferred Minato sushi down the street.

The sushi here is top notch with fresh options available daily. The restaurant is clean and neatly decorated nothing fancy. Lots of neighborhood regular's frequent here giving it a homey vibe. They were moderately busy but the food came out fast. Our server was extremely polite and helpful with menu choices. The menu is large and he was very helpful narrowing down preferences and house specialties. We went a little early on a Fri to avoid the crowd and it was filling up as we left. Parking is limited here so plan to wait for a spot. Definitely coming back!

This place was really nice! When we walked in, it was clean and welcoming, and the service was great. We were seated right away, and our waiter was super kind and attentive. They even serve complimentary edamame, which is such a nice touch. I started with a hot miso soup which was flavorful and comforting. For my main dish, I ordered the Super Crunch Roll, a California roll topped with seared salmon. The crunch added the perfect texture. Overall, a great experience.

Ceviche roll. Tart with a little spice. Mynorior pictures disappeared. Amazing roll and a sky roll all yummy

Carlos is a great sushi chef. We have been loving his food for years. Service is fun and we'll paced. I sit at the sushi bar because watching the chefs skill is part of the experience.

No no noooooo! I hate the leave not great reviews but this was..not great. Hubby and I excitedly came for lunch having not tried this place but living nearby for years. Got the poke bowl and a chicken katsu lunch special. See pics and you will understand. Poke bowl was filled with precut fish drenched in a bbq sauce, almost like they premade and dug it out of a bucket. It smelled suspect too and honestly I'm surprised I didn't get a stomach ache after. Chicken katsu was more like skin katsu, there was no chicken, just fried skin cut in slices. If you like quality sushi for the same price, go to Little Ferry, which is not far and far superior! Sorry Sashimi.

Sushi were very fresh. Service was good. Place was clean. Price was fair. We can recommend this place.

Ordered takeout from Sashimi, called and spoke to Steve over the phone. He was friendly and enthusiastic! I didn't feel rushed. My husband went in to pick it up and arrived earlier than the quoted time. Steve was there to greet him and offered some water while he waited. We ordered the chicken teriyaki bento special (chicken, rice, 4 pieces of ca roll, shrimp/veggie tempura, salad, soup) and one rainbow roll. What we loved: - the service - our rolls, the salad dressing, and tempura were DELISH - I eat a lot of ginger and they provide a generous amount The chicken teriyaki wasn't our favorite. The pieces were cut really thin and needed more sauce. Since they put the rice, chicken, and salad in a box with 3 compartments, you only get a few pieces of lettuce for the salad. We loved the dressing so much and luckily had some lettuce at home to add. Will come back again for pickup and to dine in. I'd probably order the same thing but try out another protein instead of chicken teriyaki or I'll just ask for extra teriyaki sauce.

Sat outside for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The server quickly put up an umbrella to keep us shaded. So many things to choose from on the menu. We decided on lunch specials. The number six and the number eight and a TNT roll. Everything was delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked. A bit too much dressing on the salad so I'll ask for less next time. The server even brought us extra ginger when he saw that we liked it. We will definitely be back!

Sashimi in Lake Forest is such a good spot for fresh, delicious sushi. The atmosphere is laid-back, perfect for a casual night out or a quick lunch. Their poke roll was a standout for me; it's super fun to get the chef's choice of fish on it, and you end up with a nice mix of whatever they have more of that day. The Lake Forest roll was another favorite--I'm a big fan of spicy tuna, salmon, and avocado, so this hit all the right notes for me. Good balance of flavors, and the spice level was just right. The staff here is so friendly and attentive, always making sure you have what you need. They offer a points card that rewards you for every visit--makes it all the more tempting to keep coming back again.

Came back home, first order of business was making sure I get good sushi. Oh man did this place knock it out of the park. Their extensive menu features everything you could ever ask for out of a sushi place. The food we got was fresh and I had absolutely no complaints about any of our orders. Staff is extremely friendly, I literally have nothing but a belly full of good food and a heart full of gratitude and good vibes. Thank you Sashimi Staff!

Friendly service and they accept the Lake Forest gift card. My son really enjoyed the chicken katsu bento box and devoured the whole thing. Overall, the portions are a bit small and the quality mediocre for the price. At $20 a roll, I was hoping for something more substantial.

No it's Menu ordering. Maybe a new owner too not seeing same people.

Is the sushi chef japanese?

One of the chefs, Masa, is Japanese. The very talented and highly recommend head chef and owner, Peter is Korean, but he does speak a reasonable amount of Japanese if you need assistance with ordering.

My wife, daughter, and I come here all the time and we seriously can't get enough. We've tried a bunch of different rolls, poke bowls, soups, sashimi, you name it! and everything is always on point. One of my favorites is the bento box. It's such a solid deal. You get a roll, salad, soup, rice and your choice of protein, and it always fills you up. Can't go wrong with it. Everything always tastes fresh, the flavors are consistent, and we've honestly never had a bad experience here. On top of that, it's always a good vibe inside. It feels welcoming, and the staff is super nice and attentive every time we come in. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for good sushi and a mellow spot to enjoy it

The restaurant was…read morecompletely empty, but service was slow since the waitress seemed overwhelmed with takeout orders and phone calls. It took quite a while just to get water and place our order, even after asking the sushi chef (who was not happy to be asked). We ordered the cucumber salad, shrimp tempura, and soft shell crab to start. The cucumber salad was plain and lacked dressing, the tempura was decent, and the soft shell crab was tasty with a small side salad with sesame dressing that was actually the best part. For mains, we had two bento boxes -- one with chicken teriyaki and baked mussels, and the other with mackerel shioyaki and fried shrimp. The miso soup was solid, but the salad could've used more dressing. Overall, the food was okay, but the poor service really hurt the experience. This was our second visit, and unfortunately, I think it might be our last. It feels like dine-in guests take a back seat to the takeout business here.

I initially reached out about reserving a table for 40+ people during a basketball tournament weekend and was told the manager would contact me back. Sure enough, she called promptly to confirm everything for our Saturday dinner reservation. The entire process was seamless and incredibly easy, especially considering this was a larger-than-normal party. Taizy handled everything professionally. She seamlessly added the extra guests without hesitation. Her only request was that we send over everyone's food orders ahead of time so the kitchen could prepare and ensure nobody had to wait too long. And wow -- they absolutely delivered. Every single order came out accurately and in a very timely fashion. No mistakes, no confusion, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The servers were organized, attentive, and handled a very large group with ease. Service was truly 10/10. One of the reasons I chose Kin Sushi for a large group dinner was because the menu truly has something for everyone -- udon, sushi rolls, vegetarian rolls, bento boxes, chirashi, sashimi, and something for everyone. They even had Thai iced tea, which isn't normally something in you have in a Japanese restaurant. Parking was very easy, which is always appreciated when coordinating a large party, and there's a restroom conveniently located in the back. I'm beyond grateful for how well they handled our group, and I would absolutely return here again for future team dinners or large gatherings. Highly recommend!

That said, I'm not complaining: as a sushi spot in America that caters to Western tastes, this place hits. Some of my favorite rolls are the Bella, the Mission Viejo, and the Seared Tuna roll. One minor area for improvement is to-go orders. They seem to get very busy, and there could be better predictability around wait times. The order processing for peak hours (6pm on a Saturday) was about an hour, but on my most recent visit, my pickup order was delayed by about 30 minutes, pushing it to 90 minutes. It was frustrating for me, but I think it can be even more frustrating for Door Dash drivers since they're paid per delivery and long, unexpected waits can throw off their entire queue and earnings for the night. I do want to commend their customer service, though. They have always been great dining in, but this time, they could tell people were frustrated and genuinely tried to reshuffle orders and adjust priorities. Overall, improving order flow and wait-time forecasting would make a noticeable difference!

The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line.
