I'm highly disappointed with the customer service at Sashimi Express on Willow/Nees. Last week Thursday night we walked in at 8:03pm and were told they were closed for dining, the restaurant closes at 9pm! Last summer we placed an order for multiple sushi platters for my dad's memorial service luncheon, paid in advance (with a tip!) and checked in the day before and was assured it would be ready. Went to pick it up at the scheduled time and they had not even started making it, and there was only one customer there and workers were standing around talking. They completed the last platter 1 1/2 hours later, while taking in all walk-in customers first! Enough strikes for me! They obviously do not care about customer service! COVID-19 phase: My mother ordered Red Dragon, Sapporo roll, 2 spicy Miso soups. That was after the worker kindly recommended the first roll. He said it would be ready shortly. We went to get it! The place was clean and well taken care of. The worker was masked and very kind. The order was ready. Wasabi and soy sauce comes with it. Paid for it and left. The Red Dragon roll was really great! Fresh and tasty! The Sapporo roll was fresh and delicious too! The roll slices tasted even better dipped in Wasabi and Soy Sauce! Yum! The spicy Miso soup was very spicy and really delicious! It had little tofu cubes in it and that made it even better along with fresh jalapenos. It came with ginger and that was fresh and good too! While there are tons of sushi spots in Fresno (great ones at that!), Sashimi Express is like a diamond in the rough due to the fact that they offer poke bowls, beautiful bento boxes with delicious customizable options, and half rolls as well as full rolls at an amazingly low price! There is another location on Herndon, but last time we stopped at that location during COVID-19, they were closed and told us only this Willow location was open for pickup(?). We decided to order four half rolls, 5 pieces at $6 for each half roll. All of them came with large pieces, fresh fish, and fresh toppings. The sushi didn't fall apart and everything was packaged nicely in their own separate container with wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. We got the fantasy roll, pearl dragon roll, fatty albacore crispy onion roll, and sunshine roll. All of them were delicious!! Favorites were probably the fantasy and pearl dragon just because they're the most flavorful on their own. If you're hungry, definitely order more because four half rolls might sound like a lot but it's really not! Plus they're delicious and affordable so might as well order more and support your local businesses while you're at it! Sashimi Express on Willow in Clovis has been our favorite when we want a bento box. However, last night we wanted nigiri sushi for dinner. I had no idea that our evening would be a big disappointment. We ordered through Door Dash a selection of sushi we saw on the menu. We are big fans of Japanese food. When we received our food, we thought half of our order was missing. We ordered two rainbow rolls, a small selection of a variety of nigiri sushi, miso soup and seaweed salad. Our bill for our sushi meal was $44.00 plus tax and tip for a total of $53.00. We were shocked to see our meal. I called the restaurant and told them we did not receive our complete order. The person I spoke said that the rainbow roll ($9.00 each) we received was actually two rolls! Actually it was one roll was cut in half into tiny pieces! The small variety nigiri sushi on the menu was only two nigiri sushi pieces. Further he said next time I should read the menu more carefully! I have never had anyone talk to me in such a condescending way. He was definitely not professional or helpful. Sadly, I feel we were ripped off. I will not buy food from this Sushi Express on Willow ever again. I do not support unscrupulous businesses. read more

I would stray away from the non sushi menu. Had a bit of everything. Teriyaki bowl is simply drenched with a basic teriyaki sauce. Pop chicken is mainly breading with a hint of meat. Udon is quite watered down. I'm sure the sushi may be excellent, up to you to give it a go. We also ordered a bottle of sake, if you want to drink it though you'll have to insist they give you cups to go with. And then it will be a process, wait at your seat. I tried this place upon a recommendation and review. I like the price point for the items I got spring rolls, gyoza, 2 rolls totaling around $30 plus dollars. The items look fresh, presented nicely, and the interaction with staff was present but brief due to me taking it Togo. I was disappointed by taste and smell both rolls smelled fishy and not in a good way, fish was mushy and very pungent in taste almost like it was old and on the verge of turning plus it was hot and not for the lack of travel, the gyoza was still crispy but the inside was mealy like rotten apples and the spring rolls had no flavor. I understand I got Togo and it is going to taste sightly different than if I was dining in as all take out does but this was far off. I would give it another try but I'm in no hurry. read more

What I love is that while they don't have a vegan menu per say, they accommodate and with a big smile. I ordered the avocado cucumber roll: 8 pieces for around $8. These weren't the pathetic little pieces you get at some establishments- they are rather large and the avocado was absolutely perfect. Onto the ramen- it's $9.5 (which I think is a great deal) and a couple of modifications need to be made but soooo worth it. Their ramen broth is not vegan, you'll need to ask for the udon broth. Then ask for their tofu and to remove the animals products. They add fresh mushrooms, green onions, spinach and this fried garlic/spice mixture that's out of this world. ***Now for the secret: if you like spicy like I do, ask for the hot sauce mix which is sriracha, hot chili oil and toragashi. This spot surprised me... I walked in thinking it was this small little take out restaurant but the space in here is big and kinda relaxed! There's some comfortable seating on the side which kinda reminded me of a coffee joint. Menus were brightly lit on a tv screen which also surprised me. I ordered the Pokédon and was pleasantly surprised. It looks so Japanese... the poke bowls in my taste in US just looks sloppy at all the different places. This spot actually had slices of avocado rather than the mushy guacamole looking scoop. I enjoyed the beauty of the pokedon. The pork ramen was ok, the broth was tasty but luke warm. We also got the sashimi platter and the fish was of somewhat low quality and several pieces were stringy. The restaurant is cafeteria style, so you order from the counter then take your food and sit at one of the tables inside and eat. Took my kids to eat today.. first time coming to this place... it's wasn't so bad for is good b the beef seem old it was starting to have a smell to it... one things a dnt appreciate that if the owner (older lady) or work there has any concerns, should address it to the adult not to a child.. on the soda machine, there's no sign or nowhere that say water. I'm guessing the owner was telling my daughter the cup is for water only. Also that I could see that the old lady whispering to others about the incident. I was craving miso soup. A quick search on Google for places still open that served miso produced a substantial list but I wanted a good portion not just a tiny saucer size. I spotted Sashimi Express and saw the review photos of their bowls of soup. I was not disappointed, a generous portion and a great balance of tofu:seaweed:broth. If not for it being hot, I would have chugged the whole bowl. It was Delicious! The bento box that my wife ordered was pretty impressive with large portions of chicken, rice, sushi and miso soup. I ordered the Poki bowl which was a good choice but a little pricey compared to Pokiland's small bowl for $9.50 otherwise it was just as good. Located near Starbucks and Trader Joe's.
