Homemade drink- Worth it to try over other drinks you decide in their fridge!
Nancy W.

We went to Sarge's Subs a few days ago. I ordered the Flyboy Fancy Sub (Chicken Parmigiana) and the portion was worth the price you pay. The woman behind the counter when we came to pick up the order, she was incredibly sweet. As we were waiting on one more sub order, she's explaining to us the two large subs we got, comes with 4 sodas and 4 chips. We opted to get their 2 homemade drinks and get 2 bags of chips instead. She was very welcoming when we chatted while waiting. The atmosphere was awesome, lots to look around. We wanted to check it out if we stayed longer next time because the inside of the establishment had so much character. My Flyboy Fancy Sub was okay. The bread was toasted a little too long and the Chicken Parmigiana is made with the breaded chicken cut up in the cheese and sauce. ( my preference, I like the whole breaded Chicken more when I try Chicken Parmigiana). I couldn't finish the sub and saved it for the next day. Their homemade drink was good, I suggest you try their drinks instead of the regular sodas you see all the time. I want to try a cold sub next time. Comfortable and chill establishment, friendly and sweet service, lots of food options, parking was available around the corner and there is available seating outside. Looking forward to coming next time to try other food options and their next homemade drinks.

Superb subs! Crispy bread, fresh meat and fixings, the perfect amount of seasoning and oil and vinegar. We will definitely be ordering from Sarge's Subs again!

Eh, was not impressed. Food was ok but not great and a bit pricey for what you get. I got a Sarge half for $8+ and it didn't fill me up. The bread was a bit stale and not soft. You're better off going to Jersey Mike's or even Blimpies. On a good note service was good and subs made to order.

The cheesesteak in front and their Italian in back.

It's a sin that they serve these kind of subs/heros/hoagies. First off the bread is horrible. It's kind of like the prepackaged ones you get at the supermarket. You HAVE to use high quality crusty bread for good sandwiches! 2ndly it's way overpriced. Almost $12 for a foot long?! (although it is a big foot long). The sarge (Italian sandwich) tastes like you got cheap meat and made it at home. The cheesesteak? I don't know how you can call that a cheesesteak. The meat is not even chopped up and I wouldn't be surprised if it was steak ums (it very may well be). Subz up near by is much better and cheaper.

The Sarge! Huge!

I usually come here at least twice a week and normally I am very happy with my sub but lately it hasn't been fresh and it's very upsetting.

Decor/actual restaurant: This particular location is very small and tight with limited in-store seating. The interior is cute, I like the blue color theme they have here. For a restaurant designed for to-go orders, I believe that there could be more waiting room and a couple less chairs. Service: Like many "fast food adjacent" restaurants, the people who work there have good customer service but I imagine deal with the worst. I know they're doing great with the situation they're in. Kudos to them. Food: this is probably my harshest critique. I ordered a pesto chicken sandwich, and it was fine. I don't believe it was worth the $16 I spent though. The chicken was kind of bland, tasted similarly to frozen grilled chicken pieces you buy from a grocery store. I do wish there was more sauce. The pesto tasted good but overall there was too much bread. I fear you would be better off making something like this at home for a comparable price. The bread was good, just too much. I don't want to base the menu on this sandwich alone, a lot of the menu options sounded delicious, but this was just the experience I had!

The Ultimate NYC Breakfast Sandwich…read more My husband rarely eats sandwiches, but he noted that the breakfast sandwich here was easily one of the best things he had during our entire trip to New York. There are several locations across the city, but a local friend recommended this for their food and proximity to the American Museum of History. Because it is incredibly popular, the cafe was very crowded, and the counter-service line stretched straight down the middle of the shop. It was quite difficult to find an indoor table that could accommodate our party of four, so we grabbed some of the outdoor seating instead. While the venue was bustling and the service was understandably a little on the slower side due to the heavy crowd, we still had a wonderful experience and highly recommend stopping by.

Recently, we ordered some Bagels, Cinnamon Babka and Chocolate Babka. It was a special treat after visiting here in April. Shipping of course isn't cheap, but well it's worth it, for that NY treat. We had a problem with our order. When we opened the box, the chocolate babka was damaged. No problem Zabars understood and just sent us a new one. WOW! Talk about customer service. We were lifelong customers before, but now... you cannot make this stuff up.

It's not often in this life that reality meets anticipation. So maybe my experience at Zabar's Cafe…read morewas otherworldly. It certainly felt that way. I ordered the classic lox on a bagel, easy on the cream cheese. I was actually stunned at the perfection of the lox, how its mild saltiness lingered savory on my tongue, then made its velvety way down my throat, leaving a progression of sensations in its path. To be sure, the perfectly balanced toppings and the bagel itself worked together to create this sensation and therein lies the art of making the perfect sandwich. But let's not discount the quality of the smoked fish, and the expert hand which sliced it to just the right amount of thickness to create that perfect texture and flavor. Some practical details: the cafe is right next door to the market. Why wait to get home to start enjoying Zabar's delights? Order from the cashier and pick it up at the same place (not further down the counter where the sandwiches are actually made, though that is fun to watch). This time I passed on dessert, but will be back to sample the chocolate babka and apricot rugalach.
