The debate in Winnipeg is always which taco place is better: Sargent Taco or BMC Market. I do need to give BMC Market another try to make a decision (as I haven't been there in a few years), but my first impression of Sargent Taco was very positive. There's not much ambiance inside, which is fine. Don't expect to dine in here, especially when the weather's hot; there's very little A/C if any. This place is, for the most part, take out only. I had the lengua tacos. There's a lot of unique choices here compared to other taco places, hence why it's heralded so much. The tacos were homemade, and the beef tongue was flavourful. The cilantro and pickled onions were excellent additions to the tacos. I was told next time to try the grilled rib eye steak with fried cheese next time. The mushroom tacos are so juicy and cheesy! Love them! The nopales cactus tacos are good too. The tacos have a lot of flavor and cheese. You can also add and take out ingredients, just tell the cashier what you want. My friend was impressed by the chicken tacos. He said they were very filling and the mild sauce wasn't super spicy but the spices that made the sauce were nice. This establishment is a small hole in the wall place but the food is delicious and the price is very affordable. I will recommend this place to my friends who want to taste real authentic tacos not from a fast food place. read more

Hidden gem, thanks to Yelp and some locals. Not located in downtown Winnipeg, but if you can make the trip it's definitely worth it! It is literally a hidden gem because there is no proper sign outside the shop to identify itself, so definitely follow google maps. The moment you walk in, your senses start tingly because it all smells and looks good. The staff are very friendly and greet you with a smile! You see people come in and out of the shop so often. Many returning customers that make a quick stop for a bite before they go about the rest of their day, so you know it must be good if they always come back. The best part about this place is definitely the menu. You can get 3 Tacos for $7 or $8 (beef) and 6 churros for $6. You can eat it to go or in the little shop itself (I would recommend doing so if you have time because the moment you get your order you're going to want to eat it right then and there). But of course they have complimentary sauces to add on to your tacos! Be sure to ask the staff which one is which, because they have some extremely hot sauces and they tell you what compliments which food item. I'd definitely come back because this makes for a cheap date, and some good old tacos! read more

Are you kidding me?!? This place is so good I may move to this sketchy part of town just to be closer to the taco shop. Their mole sauce is the best I've ever had and the soup (only available on Saturday) is super delicious. My gastromate Wil declares this is his new favourite taco and I can't argue. read more

We ordered take out from Sargent Taco on a Friday after work. It was so delicious! We each ordered the value meal; 3 tacos, rice, beans and a drink for $10, incredible value. Decided to support a local Indigenous resturant as a Ojibwe woman from the West End. Got home they did not have one of our meals. Called them, they did not offer to drop this off, give us a freebee or other incentive to come again. Food was average, and expensive, 65 for 3 taco meals, and slow incompetent service. Best tacos in the city, hands down. Homemade tacos, packed with flavour and fresh ingredients. I sampled the chicken mole, beef, and pastor pork. All were amazing. I love the size - not too large, or small (Goldilocks would approve) and the fresh corn tortillas were excellent. Homemade sauces and salsas were exceptional. Ask about the dark hot sauce. Hints of smoke and coffee with a nice level of heat. I also tried the soup of the day - a spiced mushroom, cream, tortilla soup. It was ridiculous. I can't wait to try the other menu items (like the pozole!) There's a good chance I'll eat here several times a week. This is the real deal. read more

Located on Sargent Avenue, the sign may be hard to see and easy to miss. Once inside, you're greeted by a friendly staff who gives you information about the wide selection of tacos and salsa they offer. The interior could use a little bit of a refresh, but can hold around 10 people with the tables inside. There is also reviews from different publications hanging on the walls so you can read up on what they have to say as well. There is a combo for $10 that included 3 tacos of your choice, beans and rice- a highly recommended value. Choices include beef, pork, chicken and chorizo. They also have an incredible 6 churros for $6! What a great deal. I would definitely recommend going here to appease your taco appetite. I know I will definitely come back for sure. read more
