Great place if you're looking for some good comfort food with some quality ingredients. Asparagus in fettuccine. Mussels from PEI. Pizzas with your not-so-average toppings. For something different, try this cozy but always busy place.

This place expanded into the space next door adding a lot more seating but it's still a long wait on a Saturday night! It's a very popular casual neighbourhood bistro where a wait of 45 mins and upwards is very much guaranteed on the weekends. Yup...there are no reservations here so I'd suggest visiting during off peak hours or on the week days if you hate waiting. There is no real waiting area as you are just standing on the tiny doorway with a bunch of other hungry diners. They also operate a very popular take out service as well. This place is run by the same owner as "Cafe Carlo," though the menus are a bit different, I definitely prefer "Bonfire Bistro" way more. There's a lot more selections available here than Cafe Carlo. Once you do get seated, the servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the kitchen turns around dishes at a good pace during a full house. They always have a huge list of specials available. They are known for their thin crust wood-fired pizzas ($15-$17) - they work well to share as an appy or a lighter main. We shared the wild mushroom pizza: porcini, portobello and oyster mushrooms with wilted spinach, fresh herbs, stilton blue and mozzarella cheese on roasted garlic sauce. This pizza was surprisingly subtle despite the strong ingredients - they seem to balance each other out. The "Atlantic Salmon" ($22.95) - pan roasted and served over a warm creamy baby potato salad with wilted arugula and asparagus. The salmon was perfectly cooked (medium) and had a nice crispy skin. I wasn't sure about the warm potato salad but I really liked it! It wasn't overly creamy, good seasoning and the potatoes were cooked appropriately. Great price and a decent sized portion! Ambiance is lively but not overly noisy so it provides for a great bistro vibe but you're not shouting to your fellow diners. I'd love to go back but probably on a week night (hopefully the wait isn't so long).

Exotic versions of Italian foods! If you're bored of plain food, you need to come here! They have some exciting varieties of pizza toppings including rabbit, artichoke and spiced walnuts! Don't want pizza? No sweat they also have salads and sandwiches, pastas and a variety of entrées! Response for owner over complaint about a bad service. Note the dessert was only one aspect of the bad service.

Terrible service. Terrible restaurant. Terrible response by owner. Attitude was much more than "forgotten dessert". This is how they treat people who told them about their service. If I could give less than one star I would. Please don't go there as they clearly don't respect customers

A lovely surprise... quaint, local, seasonally-sourced, healthy and innovative restaurant. Pros: -see above -outstanding, personalized service... the waitress was not only attentive to every need, seemed genuinely to love her job and customized my meal from three different items on the menu and did not charge me extra. She even made my friend happy by confirming the bacon was ethically sourced (with a wink, of course) -comfortable, cozy atmosphere with specials written on a chalkboard (that night they had pork tenderloin, soups etc) and a fire oven in the corner... you can watch the chefs bake the pizzas! -the food is outstanding... the menu varied, seasonal, local, healthy, simple but innovative and constantly changing from what I can see... plus, it tastes amazing! -Bonfire Flatbread with hot spinach artichoke and parmesan spread: delicious, not your average doughy flatbread its more light and baked in their oven to give it more of a crunchy outside. The spreads (which were very generous) were piping hot and warm, melty goodness. -Mixed Salad of baby field greens, red onion, currants, toasted pecans, balsamic vinaigrette and crostini; the crostini was plain and dry, but the salad was fresh and delicious, especially the currants and perfectly toasted pecans -Fire-roasted vegetables were a mix of zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and peppers which were well grilled, spiced and toasty warm. Never thought cold lettuce would go well with warm veggies, but it was delicious. -Added spicy prawns to my salad (which was not an option on the menu, but is a pizza topping) which were out of this world... plump, sweet meat perfectly grilled and well spiced (not just your generic hot sauce heat) with a thin glaze. -Wild Mushroom & Maple Bacon Pizza had garlic spread and blue cheese which brought out the flavor of the perfectly cooked mushrooms. Even my friend who doesn't love mushrooms liked these. The crust is perfectly baked and thin, but not too crunchy. -Margherita Pizza: I don't know who Carlo is, but he makes amazing tomato sauce! -Nice wine selection -Great value for the price!!! Cons: -Parking can be tricky on busy nights -We weren't offered dessert, and so I'm pretty sure they don't serve it. Sad because I was hoping after such an excellent meal they might have even better dessert... but I guess they are sticking to what they know. Its commendable that they can admit their weaknesses and not bother ruining their otherwise amazing menu. And I got to keep the night going by heading to another dessert place anyway! -Close at 10:30pm which can be a little early sometimes. -The restaurant is very small... maybe 10 tables and a bar area, which makes for nice ambience (it wasn't noisy at all, in fact, since there was no loud music and quiet conversation with a bustling kitchen which was nice) but I can see having to wait for a bit on busy nights Overall, I can't say enough good things and will definitely be back. Took a gamble on a new place and it definitely paid off. I can't wait to try the Cioppino and see what other specials they come up with.

Our server, Zane, was terrific. He had a great sense of humor, was attentive without hovering, and made us feel well taken care of throughout lunch. Everyone at the table loved their meal. My sister ordered the Arancini as her entrée and polished off every bite. I kept things light with the Caesar salad topped with grilled chicken but substituted an oil-and-vinegar dressing instead of the traditional Caesar. The chicken was perfectly grilled, the salad was fresh, and the portion was generous. My husband ordered the pasta, and the kitchen was happy to substitute a spicy tomato sauce for the rosé sauce, which we really appreciated. My brother-in-law thoroughly enjoyed the Piri Piri Chicken. We also discovered a fantastic Canadian Riesling from Tawse Winery in the Niagara region. The only disappointment was the limited by-the-glass wine selection, so we ended up ordering a bottle instead. Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to have a few more options by the glass. A couple of tips for first-time visitors: parking is paid street parking, and the restaurant can be a little tricky to find. Look for the colorful striped exterior of the Mere Hotel--the restaurant is tucked behind it along the river. Overall, we had a terrific experience. Great food, excellent service, a beautiful waterfront setting, and a relaxed atmosphere made this one of our favorite lunches in Winnipeg. We'd definitely come back.

The different contrast made it an undesirable combination. Told the waiter, who was not very nice, even from the get go! He just took the plate without trying to fix or make it "right". He came back and I inquired, " so, you're not going to fix or rectify this " "uh, I took it off your bill" and walked away. Was not very welcoming. My friends even said so. There were interesting art pieces on the wall but didn't really look around. I got a pizza (vegan) it was meh... I don't really want pizza. Then my friends got the calamari which they loved; along with a pasta and some beef entree which they both loved. Probably will not ever go back.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the place was rather lively even on a Friday afternoon…read more In terms of the food we shared an order of poutine and their blackened chicken fettuccine. Poutine was decent - not the best I've had in town but not the worst. The portion was very small, and I was surprised to see it priced almost as much as an entree on the bill - they don't have it on the menu a la carte but you can upgrade a side of fries to poutine for $4. Since the pasta dish didn't normally come with fries I asked if they could just do a side of poutine and they said yes (and then charged $14 for it). It wasn't worth it. The blackened chicken fettuccine was disappointing. Our host highly recommended it, and it's a dish I generally enjoy enough I even make it at home. The blackening rub they use had almost no spice, which to me defeats part of the point of "blackened" chicken - the taste was more on the herby side. The noodles themselves were bland and the sauce was almost non-existent - sadly underseasoned. I chopped the chicken up into tiny bits and mixed it all together so that they flavors from the chicken could add at least some excitement to the pasta, but while it helped it didn't quite save the dish. Overall the experience was fairly mediocre. Maybe I should have gotten a burger, but I went with the host's recommendation instead for a dish I normally quite enjoy and came away disappointed. The price of the side of poutine is on me - I didn't ask ahead of time. But it came out to be nearly double what I'd expected for half as much as I'd thought it would be.
