3.5 stars A popular…read moreMexican restaurant in Osbourne Village, plenty of seating inside/outside. Got what all the reviews raved above: a shrimp taco and a chicken taco ($7). There was just one guy assembling all the orders while the others were at the cash register or in the back prepping. Not quite fast food. The shrimps were plump and juicy, while the chicken was flavourful but dry. The tacos are really stuffed to the brim which seems appealing, but in the end was not fantastic as everything exploded out of the tortilla. The chips with salsa isn't too bad of a deal, nice that it came with two salsas. The chips were crispy and toasted, but the ones at the bottom became soggified.

I love my burrito bowls, so it was no surprise that I ended up ordering their naked burrito…read more My naked burrito was piled high, which I loved. No one likes to be skimped out on their food. They have a range of meat to choose from, including the typical carnitas (slow braised pulled pork), pollo achiote (marinated roasted chicken), camarones (sauteed chile lime shrimp), and barbacoa (slow-cooked beef braised in ancho chipotle adobo sauce), which I ended up getting. It also comes with mexican rice, the choice of either black or refried pinto beans (I got the black beans, because I prefer to have the beans whole), cheese, and salsa. I also added lettuce, corn, sour cream, green onions, lime juice, and their hottest sauce, plus one other sauce I forgot the name of. Since it was piled so high, it was somewhat difficult to mix everything up. Overall, it was really delicious, and I enjoyed the barbacoa. It was a lot saucier than I wanted, but I guess that is to be expected, since I did have sour cream and other sauces in it.

3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more Very small, no frills taqueria on Ness in St. James. It has that cozy, small business family feel here. It wasn't clear on whether it was over the counter service or if they come and provide waiter service when dining in, so I ordered over the counter. I had the pozole and one regular birria taco. The birria taco was very juicy, with plenty of meat and greens. The pozole was good, though I've never been crazy about radish and lettuce being added to soups...I feel like it ruins the authenticity of Mexican food, and my friend who's Mexican agrees with that sentiment. Service was excellent here. I would however say Sargent Taco and BMC are better taquerias in the city, but if you're in the west half of the city and aren't willing to travel closer to the core, this place does its job well.

I went there twice to give them a chance but they blew it. The meat is VERY limited compared to what it was. I get that they weigh it, but obviously the amount allowed has dropped. They skimp on toppings. Time to try new mexican restaurants. It is too bad because the owner was awesom.

I understand that, due to rising costs, it is very difficult for restaurants to keep their doors…read moreopen. They have one of two options: 1. Raise prices 2. Reduce portions. It is unavoidable, if a restaurant wants to remain in business, they need to do one or the other. In order to ensure that we're still getting a reasonable amount of protein in our meals at Burrito Splendido we started paying for "double meat", but they've reduced their portions so much that even paying an additional $3.50 gets you practically no protein. It's gotten to the point where they're clearly taking advantage of their customers. We will no longer be supporting Burrito Splendido, which is a real shame because we ate there 2-3 times a week for years because we really appreciate that they use all locally sourced ingredients. I tried to include a picture of a beef quesadillas with "double meat"., but it unfortunately won't upload because. To give you an idea, each triangle of quesedilla had no more than five small shreds of beef.
