In short, Excellent!
Came here with a couple of friends and between us we have probably eaten at every decent middle-eastern place in London - Iranian/Persian, Turkish, Lebanese, you name it. I was curious as to what Iraqi and Kurdish cuisine was like, I wasn't disappointed!
Place wasn't that busy, so atmosphere wasn't great but it might have been because it was the middle of the week.
The starters are fairly standard with things such as Tabouleh salad, Baba Ganoush etc, although there are a few items I haven't tried.
We just got the Hummous which was tasty, and served with a large flat nan.
A nice touch was that we each got a small bowl of complimentary lentil soup before our mains.
However, enough of that, we were here to eat a main course and had meat cravings! My friend loves his meat.......
He recommended the 'Kuzi (Lamb) Ala Timan (Tapsi)' - basically a large special cut of baby lamb a little bit like a lamb shank which has been seasoned and slow cooked until tender - served with fragrant buttered rice and tapsi sauce (From what I remember this is made of aubergine among other things). So we each had that.
Sauce was a little oily but otherwise the dish was delicious and the portion was large (and I can eat a decent amount). So good in fact, I got a portion to go for my girlfriend who was working late - it lasted her for 2 meals.
There's plenty of places of similar ilk on Edgware road, but I would definitely hit this place again and recommend it to others.
Pretty reasonable for what you get - three of us ate for about £40 in total including some cokes. read more
