Business owners yelling "kill them all" to local Anchorage residents during an event downtown in Feb 2025. Unprofessional and full of hate. As someone born and raised in this city I would never support this business. You can find local crafts by Alaskan artists nearly EVERYWHERE downtown - the 5th ave mall, Kobuk Coffee, or for Fur Rondy specifics the Fur Rondy store has all the same pins and better selection. Sans the lack of ethics behind this business, I would not shop here due to the lack of value and mark up of local items you can find at other places for less. Visited Sara's as I had heard it was a nice store. I particularly liked that it supports local artists. The special Jon Van Zyle painting on a cut out mushing dog was a plus. Sara's supports the mushers who start the Fur Rondy and Iditarod downtown. Large, too large in fact, selection of bagallini bags. All in all, I'd visit again off season to find gifts for Outside family. read more

The gifts in the store are very cute, but the woman who owns the store is miserable/angry. In the short time I was in her store, I heard her snap at and verbally berate her elderly employee :(. It was the saddest thing ever! I could feel the negative energy SOOOO hard with legitimately every interaction I had with the owner, all in like a 5 min period. Wild. Oh Sara's Gift Cache, you sure do know how to SUCK big-time. There's nothing more frustrating about a business that comes so close to getting everything right, but what they do get wrong is SO wrong that it overrides the postives. I'll start with the positives so I can get warmed up for my tirade. They buy, sell and promote predominately Alaskan made products. This is great for our local economy and gives the tourists who shop 4th Avenue exactly what they're hoping for- a taste of Alaska. Some of their more high end crafts ($100-300 range) are super-cool. They have some handmade halibut and salmon mosaics made in Homer, AK that are FABULOUS (seriously, I gotta find these someplace else because they are so cool!!! http://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server3600/c4463/products/668/images/1147/store_photos_007__35780.1339428911.1280.1280.JPG) . On the low end of the scale they have a very novel, very fun product- dehydrated snow. It's a real hoot! So what do they do wrong? They have some pricey items in the store and everything is too crowded. This is Alaska where people wear fluffy parkas. Customers should be afraid to walk the aisles for fear of having a display come crashing down on them. Second, parking downtown is a nightmare. Not their fault, but it sucks none the less. Also, they don't have enough middle price range gift items. Especially those made in Alaska. And foremost, THIER CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A FLIPPING DISASTER. From the second you walk in the store you feel as though the vultures are about to pick the flesh from your bones. Leave me the hell alone! I will ask for help if I want it. A courteous welcoming smile is enough. I don't want to feel your breath on my neck while I'm shopping. All I can figure is they have a problem with shop lifters or something because the 3 people who work the store (where 1 or 2 would be enough) are totally obtrusive and obnoxious. Then they make this big deal about wanting to be "helpful" but then when it's time to exercise REAL customer service, they fall completely flat. Here's a recap of how my experience played out: I visited Sara's one afternoon and was greated by the vultures at the register with gusto. After repeatedly declining their offers for help, I let them know I was window shopping and would return in a day or two to make my purchases. When I left the store empty-handed, their non-verbal communication made me feel very uncomfortable like I had done something wrong. Regardless, I returned the next day to make my purchases. Their joy was palpable; they remembered me. I let them know I made a special trip and had even paid for parking just to visit their store. When I went to pay for my items with my local debit card, I was told I had not spent the TWENTY FIVE DOLLAR minimum. Who the HELL has a $25 minimum?!? They asked for cash. My response was "are you nuts? This is downtown Anchorage, I don't carry cash. I don't wanna get mugged! I don't EVER carry cash downtown." I reminded them I had made a special trip just to come to their store and they were unapologetic. Well Sara's Gift Cache, you can kiss my non-cash-carrying ass! Seriously you're gonna quibble over a couple bucks?!? Very bad customer service. Everything about they way the staff conducted themselves was just icky. If it had been a 16-year old kid at the counter, I probably could have forgiven them, but these were business women who should have known better. I hope this place gets their act together or fails miserably. read more

This is one of those places where you never walk into the same shop twice! They always have something new and different. Not only does this store have unique Alaskan made gifts for all the tourists (their totemic collection is amazing) it has a lot of different things for the locals to! Whenever you walk into Sara's you are warmly welcomed by a knowledgeable staff their to help you meet all of your shopping needs! Locals may remember Sara's from the Women's Show where they put a spot light on their easy to make Carmies Dip Mixes, these easy to use spice packages are a must have for any party! Of course, if you're a tourist, you'll want to check out Sara's curated collection of Alaskana. But there is such a variety of hand-made and one of a kind items that locals can find gifts for anyone on their list (including themselves!) One of the things that makes Sara's so special, is that unlike some stores downtown, she supports local artisans and craftspeople instead of filling her store with just mass produced schlock. I was totally delighted with the variety of items I found at SGC. Amazing craftsmanship and artistry from Alaska residents as well as unusual items I had seen nowhere else. The staff was helpful and friendly. After perusing several other shops I ended up getting all my gifts for those at home from SGC. Great prices, incredible quality , awesome variety. As an Alaskan Resident it is difficult for me to be wowed with items directed to the discourse community of tourist; however, the diverse selection of merchandise is unique and therefore, a must see! Many of the items I have not seen in other stores. What caught my eye was the very large selection of "baggallini". I had never even heard of the product and enjoyed looking at the many different purse's, tote's, clutch's, ect. I am now the proud owner of a baggallini Messenger bag :) As for the customer service at Sara's, I was acknowledged when I walked through the door which made me feel like I mattered. The staff was helpful with the knowledge of their products. Getting that personal attention is what will keep me coming back and looking at the new items that come in. read more

As a frequent visitor to Anchorage (I have lots of family up there) I always stop at Sara's to see what they have in stock. While so many of the shops in downtown Anchorage carry the same stuff, Sara's really has some fun and unique, Alaskan-made items. Great gift store with a tremendous variety of items. Not your typical store full of just look alike tourist stuff. I was really excited to find a great variety of Baggalini products as most places seem to have a small assortment. The owner even helped me find a briefcase that was just becoming available and ordered it shipped directly to me from the manufacturer. It was perfect! I visit Anchorage often and will use this as a go to place for unique Alaskan gifts. read more

Awesome selection of Alaskan made products! I loved that everyone that worked there was able to tell me about the items, their personalized attention really made my experience a positive one and was such a help in finding just the right gifts for my friends and family back home. I saw items from $10.00 up, prices that would make it easy to find something no matter whom you were shopping for. It was especially nice to find items that were not in every other shop downtown, and great to know they can do the shipping for me! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the jewelry she carries, and the efforts put forth in having items made in Alaska and the US. My overall experience was a great one, and while I understand the former reviewers frustration about the $25.00 credit card minimum, I myself have in the past worked with the credit card processors and understand as a small business, if they are not careful you can end up losing money on a sale if you do not set some limits. So overall I had a wonderful experience, the shop has many beautiful items, I would definitely recommend this store to my friends, and I Will be back for my holiday shopping (if not before). read more
