Poor Results & Dismissive Care - Not for Sensitive Skin I visited Dr. Sarah Mess's office two weeks ago for Botox and had a deeply disappointing experience. Not long after the treatment, my eyes became puffy and began to droop, and I developed a rash--none of which I've experienced before in my many years of getting Botox. The puffiness and rash came from skincare products she applied and tried to sell me, despite me clearly stating that I have very sensitive skin. Instead of testing a small patch, she applied the products all over my face. When I contacted her about the reaction, she told me to take Zyrtec for the puffy, drooping eyes--saying, "It can't hurt"--even though I don't have allergies. For the rash, she offered no professional solution, just told me to use over-the-counter products on my own. When I raised concerns about the results and how I looked, she brushed it off, saying it would wear off in a few months and that I was "still pretty." Meanwhile, half my forehead still has visible wrinkles. There was no real follow-up, no accountability, and no real care. I was left feeling dismissed and unsupported. If you value thoughtful, personalized treatment--especially if you have sensitive skin--this is not the place for you. Save your time and your money. read more

I got under eye filler here a few months ago. The price was fair for the area and I did research her work for a while before deciding to go through with anything. Due to the bruising, I will not be doing this type of procedure again but I'm satisfied with the results at this time. The nurses here were kind and really tried to make the experience as calm as possible. The office is also really clean and nice. She did stay on the "conservative" side with filler since it was my first time, which I appreciate. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Mess. I've been seeing her for more than 10 years. I go to her for "maintenance" (Botox, fillers, etc.). Even though I moved out of state, I still only trust her with any procedure and travel back to MD twice a year. She and her staff are warm, welcoming and attentive. I ask a lot of questions, and she politely answers them thoroughly. She is very thorough in explaining procedures and makes reasonable recommendations. I like to look natural and refreshed, so she never over does it. She recently moved to a new location where she can do out patient procedures. It's gorgeous and state of the art. I love this place! They never try to up-sell you or talk you into something you don't really need. You aren't made to feel like you aren't beautiful unless you do certain treatments. Totally not what I expected from a plastic surgeons office. Then again, my only experience prior to seeing Dr. Mess was watching the show Nip Tuck. It's not like that at all. As for the procedures themselves, I've just had injectables so far. I've never been disappointed. I usually see Dr. Mess, but the last two times I went I saw nurses, and they were amazing as well. I'd trust everyone there. You are left looking like yourself, but younger and fresher. I came here from California....I've seen things. They recently moved, and the new location is beautiful. It's large, modern, and clean. The waiting room is nice and comfortable and you have access to refreshments. Everyone is friendly from the front desk to the nurses in the back. The only reason I'm giving an extra star is because the office is nice and clean. I would definitely not recommend this practice. First of all, Dr. Mess charges way more compared to other doctors in other areas for the same procedures. You can definitely go to Miami, NY or even California for the same procedure and still save money. Please save your time and money and go to a doctor who knows what they're doing. I'm definitely not happy with my results, and I'm quite frustrated. I Still have the same problem that I had and I need to live with it for a while until I get them fixed. After losing fifty pounds through diet and exercise, I finally decided to contour my body by getting liposuction with J-Plasma skin tightening by Renuvion with Dr. Mess. She offered the very best solution amongst all the research and multiple consultations I attended. Dr. Mess is a professional, female board certified, body contouring specialist (post weight loss or other) in the suburbs of the Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland corridor. For any of you thinking of travelling to this great area... Was it worth it? Yes!! Was it expensive Yes! One would think after losing that much weight, that I would look like an athlete, right? "NOT!" Unfortunately, there are just some things that can't be obtained in the gym. Genetics can play a critical piece, but that is where Dr. Mess comes in! After researching and watching a multitude of videos along with in-person consultations, I finally decided to enhance and contour my body. The goal was to contour my waist, flanks, bra roll & 'behind'. Dr. Mess offered the greatest substitute with J-plasma/skin tightening which is a drain-less procedure! Many other surgeons recommended a tummy tuck or lipo with drains! However, I didn't have the time to be off work as long as that procedure required, nor did I have a support system at home (needed for drains). Dr. Mess, as well as the entire staff that know you by name at her spa-like office, made the experience easy! A major attribute to what she offers is the 'one stop shop' of services. Dr. Mess has an operating room connected to her office. On the day of my procedure, I recall going to sleep to a Motown hit, led by a diverse team of women. Who rules the world? Girls!!! Moreover, every surgery will have some initial discomfort and yes this was a difficult decision. Yes, it's a little down time, but from what I'm seeing J-Plasma is just as good as a tummy tuck without the downtime, cost and scars. The procedure cost didn't come cheap as it's not typically covered under your insurance. Additionally, now that my body has been remade, I have to make choices to keep my new sculpted physique. Like anything else you must do the work post the procedure by wearing your garment, spanx and continue the fight to keep your curves. Liposuction with J-plasma skin tightening was a new loan for me, but I looked at it as a gift to myself and the week off as a vacation transformation. In the end it's was well worth the return on my investment in myself. Ultimately, I'm giving Dr. Mess (a board certified, bilingual, body contouring with superb bedside manners) five stars. What an incredible gift she created for me. Highly Recommend! I stumbled upon Dr. Mess, while googling tuberous breasts correction- a congenital condition, that I assure you, most women don't want to be an owner of. For twenty years, I did my best to hold my head high and be comfortable with my natural self, but that confidence broke to bits when I almost dehydrated my newborn because this condition also effects the ability to create breastmilk. Officially, my breasts had an existential crisis. There was a rush of relief, knowing that she was out there. Finally, someone who had taken the time to educate themselves on my condition and practice a solution that did not require an implant! Her method, fat transfer, was ideal for my already traumatized body - courtesy of a severe motor vehicle accident a few years prior. Dr. Mess was able to create breasts that that feel and look completely in tune with the rest of my body. I went to Dr. Sarah Mess years ago. Back when she use to do keloid scar removal. She removed a keloid on my ear where I had a second piercing. She did a great job on the removal and I was able to keep my first hole. I wish she still did keloid removals because I have another keloid on my other ear that has grown since I had the first one removed. I wish I got them both done at the same time, but I was nervous because I had tried so many different procedures to remove them to where I wasn't sure if Dr. Mess way would work. But it sure did work, my keloid hasn't came back. I would give 5 stars but she doesn't remove keloids anymore. read more

Updating since my first review. After posting my review, Dr. Mess' office reached out to me -- there was a misunderstanding in the office about who was to contact me when I left after my assessment. Anyway, I made another appointment and met with Dr. Mess. She reviewed my history and provided suggestions to achieve the results/improvements I was looking for. We decided to use fillers (Restylane) along the frown lines/jowls. Holy cow, was I thrilled with the results and no bruising. It was exactly the results I was looking for. I went back about a month later for just a little tweak to even things out. This time a little bruising and everything turned out perfect. I have also had a couple Dysport injections between the eye brows and crows feet... waiting on those results as time goes by :-) And the cherry on top is that the staff is super friendly and professional. NO.. Wasted my time and insulted me. Rude, Waste of time, and Arrogant. I was going for a consultation for Cool Sculpt - or alternatives (like smart lipo) - AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF MY NP. So I was going there with Medical Advice about the procedure - it was for my upper arms and I had previously told that I was a perfect candidate. (I have upper arm fat out of whack with the rest of my body; and it is not just loose skin. Also I am young enough that my skin is still elastic.) Did not see Mess she had clerks of some sort take me back to a room. First comments from the clerks: Have you EVER CONSIDERED a DIET. Duh - NO you are brilliant....... Despite my assurances that I was there for a targeted treatment - which is what Cool Sculpt is supposed to be - and that I have gained weight on 1000 calories a day (with Doctor's supervision) (8 lbs in 8 weeks). I wanted to be able to exercise my arms more without the extra fat bogging me down. They kept harping on diet telling me I am too fat. (Lest you think I am a lazy puddle of fat that is not the case.) They proceeded to tell ME that "it would only remove 25% of the fat so you would not be satisfied." Since my nurse practitioner (NP) has had the procedure on other body parts (in another state - I was temporarily out of town for work) I knew what to expect and 25% would have been a great improvement. They also told me that Dr. Mess will refuse to work on anyone she considers "too fat". (the one clerk had arms about the size of mine, a bit of projection going on?) I came for a targeted procedure and instead I was insulted and they would not even discuss the procedure with me. I left and heard the two witches laugh. read more

Dr. Sarah Mess is simply the best! She is bright, personable, honest, experienced and most importantly she truly cares about the welfare of her patient vs making money. I know this because I came into her office several months ago suggesting certain procedures which were clearly among the most expensive of all procedures offered. However, Dr. Mess suggested lesser invasive procedures which would yield the same results in less recovery time. It was always apparent during our consultation that Dr. Mess is vested in the health and overall wellbeing of her patients. Dr. Mess is truly a professional individual and miracle worker. I came to her for a breast augmentation consultation. She was rather thorough, and explained the procedures along with the desired outcome. Even though she was pregnant at the time, I still felt that she took her time with me and was very compassionate to my needs. Her work was absolutely amazing. Dr. Mess performed a blepharoplasty on both of my eyes. The results far exceed my expectations. My eyes look fabulous!! The change is amazing yet subtle. Most of the reactions that I've had are that I look refreshed and awake. I could not be happier with the results. I can wear mascara and eye shadow now and not have it end up on my cheeks! After having a child and significant weight loss, I was unhappy with the appearance of my stomach and breasts. Even to the point that I was uncomfortable naked in front of my husband. In the fall/winter of 2014, I decided to look into surgical options to improve the appearance of these areas. I thoroughly researched surgeons in my area online through realself.com and looked at the pros/cons, expected outcomes, risks, reviews, pictures, etc. After a lot of consideration, I narrowed my doctor search down to a few surgeons in my area. The first doctor I visited was friendly, but I left feeling uneasy as there selling practices included "if you book that day, you would get a $ discount". For such a big decision, thank you, but I would prefer to think about it. Their recommendations included a breast lift, implants, abdominoplasty, and liposuction to contour with abdominoplasty (at en extra charge). But, of course, this was my first surgeon visit, so I thought, perhaps I needed all this. Then I visited Dr. Mess. She suggested abdomonoplasty and fat transfer to the breasts as another option instead of implants (I was not looking for significantly larger breasts, but to fill them out as they had deflated from breast feeding). She explained all her suggestions and pros and cons to implants vs. fat transfer. Her abdominoplasty fees were more reasonable than the previous surgeon and included liposuction. As her assistant explained to me, Dr. Mess wants to give you the whole package with an abdominoplasty, and liposuction will give the best results to that package. I left feeling like Dr. Mess was there to help people, like me, feel better about themselves, and not just make profit. She has done lots of surgery on breast cancer patients. This reaffirmed to me that she went into this field for the right reasons. The pictures she presented online of her tummy tucks were nicely done, natural, and beautifully contoured....and accurate from my experience with her as well. I made several follow-up appointments to ask questions. I spoke frequently with Justine in the office, who was always available to answer my questions pertaining to the surgeries I was considering. Last, prior to scheduling my appointment, I saw my primary care physician. I told her what I was considering having done and she asked who I was considering. Upon listening to my considerations, she immediately said she would go with Dr. Mess and reported that Dr. Mess's follow-up care was great from her experience with patients that have gone to her. I made several more appointments with Dr. Mess to ask follow-up questions. Appointments were always made within a very reasonable time frame and I never waited long. Dr. Mess and her staff, Justine and Renee, patiently answered my questions- and there we many. Each one of them was extremely knowledgeable, informative, and prompt. After all this, I finally decided I was ready to bite the bullet and go with Dr. Mess for abdominoplasty, lipsuction, and fat transfer to the breast. The surgery went very smoothly. Doctor Mess took time to speak to me before and put me right at ease. Afterward, the follow-up care by her and her office was amazing. Dr. Mess was available by cell phone on the weekend and personally went to put in a prescription for me that could not be called in. I recently had a facelift done by Sarah Mess, MD. I am completely satisfied with my experience on multiple levels. Dr. Mess is an extremely skilled surgeon. What is exceptional about her is that she not only has the technical expertise, she is also artistic with a strong senses of aesthetics. She knows what looks good and will gently guide you in the right direction so that you will look the best you can. Dr. Mess performed a lower facelift on me, worked on my neck, and also my eyes. She filled in the crevices, valleys, and canyons in my aging face by transferring fat from around my belly button to the areas that needed to be filled in. The end result is incredible and it's permanent unlike the usual temporary fillers used today. Dr. Mess somehow fixed the wrinkled, sagging deep circles under my eyes and my face looks younger, refreshed, and rejuvenated. The before and after pictures are amazing. Dr. Mess explains everything clearly. She has a gentle, low key approach and makes you feel like you are the only patient she has scheduled for the day. She never rushes you.
