my home gym is the poughkeepsie location, but thank god for my black card! the kingston location is…read moremuch nicer!!! all of the equipment is much more up to date (more modern looking, no rusty machines, etc). big beautiful mirrors, lots of space; this gym is at least twice even three times bigger than the pk one, and they have multiple of every machine and different equipment that pk doesnt have. no shade at pk - there are a ton of planet fitnesses in dutchess county, so it makes sense that the kingston one would be so large (as it is the only planet fitness in ulster county). i will definitely come back when i'm in the area and maybe even make the trip out here for a more equipped gym side note- there is always rumors of s*x trafficking, i never heard any allegations around this gym in particular but there's been rumors of trafficking all over the 845 including kingston so be safe at gyms & in public!

The staff usually seems surprised when it is pointed out that the machines are broken. Or they will say "we are waiting for a repairman" to fix the machines. Repairs shouldn't take weeks/months. Today I was told that none of the stairmill tvs (5 of 6 have been broken for months) will be fixed until sometime "before the end of the year when the equipment is upgraded".

You can go to bigger gyms, grunt along in a random fashion and probably do yourself good if you…read moredon't hurt yourself. But if you're out of shape and looking to whip yourself into shape (ahem, hello), this is a good place to do it. Small, friendly and never overcrowded, this place is where you go to work one on one with a smart trainer (Michelle De Dominicis! but there are others who appear to know their stuff, too) and get in shape without throwing out your back or spraining a muscle. Plenty of rowers, ellipticals and treadmills for warmups and a good circuit of machines and weights...everything you need and nothing you don't. Uptown parking is still intensely stupid (yay Kingston.), but consider that walk up the hill or up the stairs part of your cardio warmup.

Over the years…read moreI built a lot of camaraderie in this gym and helped many members with training, often volunteering my time to mentor younger lifters and support people in the community. Recently an incident occurred involving a belt squat machine that was positioned extremely close to a wall mirror. When the plates made contact with the mirror, I immediately reported the situation to staff. I asked multiple times to meet and discuss what happened and requested to review the surveillance footage so the situation could be handled fairly. Unfortunately, I was never given the opportunity to see the footage or sit down and have a conversation about it before my membership was terminated. I also reached out directly to the Vice President of Arsenal Strength, the manufacturer of the belt squat machine involved. I was informed that equipment like this is typically recommended to be bolted to the floor, and that machines placed on rubber gym flooring can gradually shift or "walk" over time if they are not secured. That information raised concerns for me about how the equipment had been positioned in relation to the mirror. After the incident, the machine was moved further away from the mirrors, which makes me question why it had been placed so close in the first place. I was also told that the mirrors needed to be replaced through a company connected to the owner's fiancé, and the quote I was given was around $3,000. I was able to locate the same size mirrors for roughly $800 and even offered to install them myself in an effort to resolve the situation responsibly. What was most disappointing was the lack of communication. After years of supporting the gym and helping other members, I expected at least the opportunity to review the footage and have a direct conversation about what happened. I valued the relationships and camaraderie I built at this gym and the community that trains there. I simply wish the situation had been handled with transparency, fairness, and a willingness to communicate.
