The space was open and sunlit and decorated sparely but lovingly with this altar.

I was with a group of friends on a short getaway from the City last weekend and we took a class taught by Sara. It was a rare treat. She catered to our group's variety of levels and seemed to intuit our needs - a healing but vigorous practice. I enjoyed the sequence of the flow and found that she mixed in challenging or new poses with more familiar ones so I was never bored. The space is spare and beautiful; the sunshine streamed through the windows and the simple altar at the center of the room was very visually soothing, decorated with organic items found in nature: a feather, fallen branches with red berries. I think the thing that stands out most was Sara's energy- after the class another friend and I found that we had both experienced a calming wave wash over us at various moments throughout the class that we attributed to her vocal cues or hands-on adjustments. I can't recommend this place enough, and I'll definitely be back the next opportunity I have to travel to the Catskills.

Setting up a private session was easy due to Sara's prompt responses and the class itself was just wonderful.

I'm bubbling over with gratitude for Barbara and Alison at Woodstock Yoga Center…read more I went as a visitor from NYC for two 9:30am classes straight and miss these powerful-women-vibes already. First, Barbara-absolutely hilarious; but don't mess around because your laughter will be tempered with an incredibly attentive eye. Thank you Barbara for being so warm and inviting, but also for pushing my edge (and my sacrum into its right place!). I came home to the East Village (where everyone in Woodstock is apparently from) and immediately purchased her book rec Light on Yoga. Second, Alison-also incredibly hilarious and the most cheerful, energetic yoga instructor ever. As I awkwardly watched the rest of the class hopping themselves into handstands, she said to me, "Come here, my little friend," and then she proceeded to post me up in a doorway. Somehow, someway, this woman had me closer to a handstand than I have ever been-and without fear. She kept saying things like, "You can do it. I saw you over there. There's no reason you can't. This foot here. This foot there." And then I did it. Back in Manhattan, I spent an hour between two walls-pushing myself up, up, up. This is coming from someone terribly afraid of the upside down world. Much gratitude and I'll be back with bells on. Edge. Pushed. If you're in Woodstock for a visit and you practice, GO to Woodstock Yoga Center. Not to mention the wide windows of the studio and beautiful nature all around. Powerfully Positive. So much thanks. Xo.

My husband took me as a birthday present last year, and it was so good that we had to go back again and I felt compelled to shared why. Victoria Balentine is the owner of the farm and the yoga instructor, and I cannot rave about her enough. She used to be a yoga teacher in NYC and, in addition to goat yoga, she is currently practicing as a wellness healer licensed in acupuncture and other holistic healing medicines. For that reason, she comes from a place of true genuine care and has such a great vibe. She has such a calming presence and she makes sure that everyone was comfortable and had ample goat experience. The goat yoga class itself PHENOMENAL. The goats were incredibly playful and affectionate, and it was so relaxing to do yoga while surrounded by them. Having them around while practicing yoga truly brings out your inner child :) After the yoga class, I took a farm tour with Victoria and her husband, where I learned all about the baby yoga goats as well as their mothers! The goat mothers were so sweet I couldnt tell you if the babies or mothers were cuter! We also met her adorable chickens and saw them laying eggs! She showed us how she milks the goats and makes a variety of amazing cheeses. She also grows all her own food and eats completely seasonally. I was so inspired by the humane and sustainable farming practices that the farm uses that every since then my husband and I have tried to adopt a seasonal diet and eat local whenever possible. Overall, I had such an incredible time at the goat yoga farm and farm tour with cheese tasting that we came back again the next year. This is an experience I highly recommend to everyone! Here are some of the things I loved most about my experience: The goats were so adorable and playful and bring out your inner child The yoga class was relaxing and fun. The goat yoga teacher/farm owner is phenomenal and inspirational The farm tour was so interesting and beautiful The cheese tasting was delicious. The farm is committed to humane and sustainable farming practices. If you're looking for a unique and enjoyable experience, I highly recommend visiting a goat yoga farm and taking a farm tour with cheese tasting. You won't be disappointed!

Just returned from my second retreat last weekend and now I definitely need to write a review!…read more Let's start with the food (because I arrived starved). Dinner the first night was soup, salad and bread- very light and all vegan. The meals go from completely bland to amazing Indian food that tastes so good, you'd think you ordered out. But yes, I went to bed hungry the first night-- because I arrived on an empty stomach. Lesson learned! But that night, I slept on a full sized bed in a room with two people. Peace Village provides extra blankets, bath towels and soaps upon request. It's like a hotel somehow, but donation-based! They really are looking out for your comfort and safety! The schedule is strict, almost like a monastery. In fact, they invite you to think of the place as an ashram. I spent most of my retreats taking lecture notes in a room called "The Inspiration Hall." The lecturers are content heavy and that can be a bit tedious to listen to-- But you're there to learn so much in such a short period of time! My only suggestion would be to loosen up the hourly schedule, so that there is more time for freedom- exploring, meditative walks in the trails/gardens/ponds, and journaling! There was one speaker named "Rena" from the "April 2019 Inner Power, Inner Peace" retreat who was so captivating when she spoke, I hung onto every word she verbatim but forgot to take notes! It's a bit tough for me to share a room with strangers but I love everything that Peace Village stands for; Google "Brahma Kumaris." If you don't have the means to make financial contributions, there is no pressure. I opted to buy books and CDs galore in the bookstore to show my appreciation. You can also help clean and set up meeting rooms and meal spaces. Most importantly, check the weather before you arrive because it's colder in the mountains- less oxygen and all. It was a sunny day in Manhattan when I left to Peace Village. But when I arrived, the retreat center looked like the set of a Stephen King thriller. See pictures

While most people around seemed to think this man was charming (and the Peace Village staff kept emphasizing what an honor his visit was), I got a bad vibe from him right away. Something about him seemed off. For example, he made sexist jokes yet came off as too people-pleasing at the same time. ("If you're a man, you know the wife is the boss. You don't wanna get on their bad side, amirite? Ha-ha.") I didn't like him. I tried to avoid him, but when were separated out for small group activities, he groped me twice. Once on the buttocks, once on the thigh. There were witnesses who saw this. We were surrounded by other attendees but separated from the other Peace Village leaders. He thought he chose his perfect opportunity. I walked out of the room immediately, very shaken, and told one of the female staff members what happened. She seemed to believe me, and hugged me because I was so upset. But later that day, she said she talked to this man, and he denied having touched me at all. He said I "must have misunderstood." Furthermore, she said, there are very strict rules for Brahma Kumaris about men and women interacting; so it was "impossible" that he would have even stepped too close to me, let alone touched me. If there was any doubt in my mind, it was gone at this point. He literally assaulted me twice, and I had other people who corroborated this. And then he lied about touching me. I came to Peace Village looking for an opportunity for self-improvement. Instead, I got unwanted sexual touching and an organization that closed ranks to protect its powerful. Can you imagine how scary it is to be trapped in a place with no cell service and not even a bus out for two days? I strongly recommend you avoid Peace Village. And more broadly, be suspicious of organizations that segregate roles by gender and require celibacy of their leaders--unfortunately, it seems to be a situation and hierarchy ripe for exploitation.
