The studio itself is beautiful. Gorgeous wood floors, and high ceilings make it feel spacious and cozy. The classes there are terrific, and there really is something for everyone. Carla Olla, who owns the studio, has a wide variety of teachers and classes, and every teacher is kind, knowledgeable, and makes Yoga accessible. Every class I have taken there has been beneficial for mind and body. Lots of props and yoga mats to use if you don't have your own. The teacher's instructions are clear and easy to follow. This place is a gem, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants a regular practice or just wants to drop in and take a few classes while in town.

Keri Ann was able to tailor her program and poses to the range of experience levels in the room. In addition, Keri Ann was really in tune with what we needed to get out of the class which was basically a full body stretch and some serious stress relief. I would HIGHLY recommend Keri Ann. She was easy to work with, a pleasure to be around, and just an overall fantastic instructor.

This gym has really gone downhill. My main concerns are the outdated and poorly maintained…read moreequipment. The stairmasters have been out of order and bounce back in resistance while you're using them, which throws off your balance and makes them unsafe/unusable. We only have two stairmasters to begin with, and both have been down--more working ones are badly needed. The spin class seats are rock-hard and leave you bruised the next day. The water fountains and pretty much everything else feel outdated. Instead of fixing the machines, they prioritized painting the locker room walls--paint that chipped almost right away--then kept painting other areas while equipment sat broken. They recently started re-padding the leather on some machines, but the job looks terrible: full of wrinkles, mismatched colors (old maroon on some machines, black on others), and cheap-looking backboards. Nothing about the upgrades feels done well. On top of all that, they raised the rates when nothing has actually improved. Wall paint should not be the priority when the machines need real upgrades, especially if prices are going up. So many things need attention here, and right now it just doesn't feel worth the increase.

But if you're out of shape and looking to whip yourself into shape (ahem, hello), this is a good place to do it. Small, friendly and never overcrowded, this place is where you go to work one on one with a smart trainer (Michelle De Dominicis! but there are others who appear to know their stuff, too) and get in shape without throwing out your back or spraining a muscle. Plenty of rowers, ellipticals and treadmills for warmups and a good circuit of machines and weights...everything you need and nothing you don't. Uptown parking is still intensely stupid (yay Kingston.), but consider that walk up the hill or up the stairs part of your cardio warmup.

Mara is without a doubt the best instructor I've gotten to practice with; her cues are so clear and make you engage muscles/soften things you didn't even notice, and her guidance is so gentle and suggestive that it isn't as "now this now this now this" as sometimes classes can feel. I look forward to her class all week I almost feel myself chilllllll out as I walk in on Sundays. Another really important thing for me is that NP Rock is most welcoming, non-elitist, accepting yoga community and it's so purposeful that it makes me want to contribute to the feeling, too.
