I'd never heard of Somatics before coming here, so I'll give a quick overview. It's an alternative style of body work used commonly by circus acrobatic performers to prevent and treat injury. Somatics retrains your brain to take control and release the tension caused by pain or sub-optimal movement patterns. I'm 24 and I've had chronic back pain for 10 years due to an old injury. Unfortunately, my back condition can't be outright "healed" and has to be managed, for which I've tried everything under the sun...acupuncture, physiotherapy, chiropractic, sports massage... They all helped some, but none of them did enough to be a long-lasting solution. I couldn't even sit in the same position for more than an hour at a time. Since I've been seeing Caroline, I can once again play tennis intensively, hike for hours and even work at my desk job - where I'm sitting most of the day - without feeling physically inhibited AND without pain!! This would have been unheard of for me before. She has taught me how to effortlessly improve my posture and encouraged me to adopt healthier movement patterns in my day-to-day. She also gave me simple exercises to do on my own that maintain the results of our sessions together long term =) Most importantly, she made all this FUN and the sessions are incredibly relaxing. In short (or I guess not) I can't emphasize enough how amazing Caroline is and how much she has done for me. If you're reading this, then you're obviously here for a reason - GO.

Through our sessions, Caroline has helped me reengage my abdominal muscles, deal with some longstanding asymmetries in my hips and back, and deal with acute issues in my shoulders and neck. I feel so lucky to do Somatics with her, and I plan to continue!

A friend of mine recommended Feldenkrais as a way for relief. Feldenkrais is the practice of body motion capable of creating or recreating semmetry of motion when that motion is impaired by pain, as in my case. Believe me, I had tried chiropractic, accupuncture, physical therapy mostly to no to moderate success, respectively. Viviana Diaz is caring, gentle, listens well, and very competent. I was treated at her home in a very spacious studio that is well equipped with table, towels, pillows, etc. I had read up on Feldenkrais methods a little before I saw her for the first of six session in March and April of this year. What I didn't expect was by the second session she had identified a major cause of my pain and we worked to correct the problem and over the sessions my pain had diminished considerably. I received instruction and exercises that I continue to perform daily to this day. About a month after I was treated by her I was pain free. Somebody wrote she is a miracle worker, to which I must agree. She is supported by her husband, Frank Wildman, one of the original Feldenkrais Practioners in Berkeley. I often thank my friend for encouraging me and it was my good fortune that I called upon and was treated by Viviana. I only wish all the professional I see were as good.

She listens carefully to whatever it is I need each time I see her and she varies her pressure and style of touch accordingly depending on what i need. At times her massages are slow, deep, still, long - always quiet, always sensitive. I know she's also a Feldenkrais Practitioner and sometimes integrates some of those techniques into my massage. Whatever techniques she uses I leave feeling taller, feeling as if my long muscles have been 'ironed out'. Sometimes I feel super relaxed and sometimes invigorated. Also, her studio is spacious, clean and soothing, which i really appreciate.

Ronit was so sweet, made me feel comfortable especially with my first ever prenatal massage. I highly recommend her! My husband and I later also hired her to be our doula for the delivery of my son. Ronit is very responsive whenever we had questions. She was very informative during our meetings leading up to my due date. One big thing for us was making sure our doula did not push their own agenda or replace my husband during the labor/delivery process. Ronit was respectful of our wishes, empowered my husband with hands on techniques and ways to better support me, and provided comfort and additional knowledge about labor which gave us peace of mind since we were first timers at the labor process, and that was priceless. We are so so grateful to have had Ronit with us despite eventually having to deliver via csection. After we brought our baby home, Ronit stopped by to check in with us and made herself available to any questions we have with caring for a newborn. Whenever I see Ronit it feels like reuniting with a friend! We have moved to the city but Emeryville isn't too far if I am in need of a good massage! She's the best!

Dr. Laurie is literally the ONLY doctor that has made some systemic changes to the patterns of overuse and overcompensation. She is AMAZING and I don't say that lightly. I found her through my partner and within the first 3 visits I felt significantly better. I was previously seeing another team of doctors in Berkeley for years. That was good but the adjustments never lasted and I had to keep going back. With Dr. Laurie I genuinely believe I will have lasting healing and create better habits with stretching, walking, sitting etc. I can't say enough about her intuitive care and she is thorough as any doctor I've seen in any field. Do yourself a favor and try her for 3 visits. You won't ever go to your current caregiver again. She's a true healer and I'm grateful to have found her.

I have received a good number of sessions from Laura over the past two years and I keep coming back to her. To begin with she has a great office space. When I step in the door I notice something shifts in me. I start to relax, and my body, which can get wound up from too much time in front of a computer, starts to unwind. Laura has a warm and healing presence that is a balm for my stress. Her touch is highly attuned and intuitive. While I often ask for a good amount of work on my shoulders and neck, where I carry the most tension, Laura is good at tracking that tension deeper and working the essence of my tension pattern. The way she works helps me to feel myself more deeply and the amazing thing is that after seeing her the tension doesn't have a place to hold onto for an extended period. This means that I can engage in my work without tensing up, and I notice how this really helps me to experience more creativity and focus in my life. Laura's massage skills are a real gift that go beyond just helping me to feel better. I'm grateful that I found her!
