TIPS - parking across the street in a lot (look for the yellow Tree of Life Yoga Clients signs) - buzz to be let into the building; studio is all the way to the back and up the gray wooden stairs - get the 10 class pass for $140...worth it! Each class is 1.5 hours and there's usually no more than 8-10 per class. I've been in some classes where there were under 5 people - if you want to get in a rope class, reserve a month in advance (seriously) If you're even thinking about trying this place, DO IT. I promise you won't regret it!

Jessica did an outstanding in-depth assessment and now she is teaching me a completely new way to move, and, frankly, to live in my own body. Since I am very analytical, I appreciate that she shares her deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology. If you are a) stressed out by a corporate environment, b) turning into a little cramped shell of back/shoulder pain, and c) you want to actually DO something about it, this review confirms that the instruction at TOLY is world-class.

Mild is great if your body is tight/in recovery, it's been a rough day, or you just want permission to take it easy. Medium would require more effort but it doesn't cause serious regrets. Spicy is all in, keep up, sweat like crazy, and maybe re-evaluate your choice to come. I take classes to meet my body where it is that day; that is, I don't "only" do spicy ones to "get fit." So my week consists of Mild to Spicy to have "rest" days. The schedule is constantly changing and I haven't taken every class/instructor, so here's how I'd categorize the ones I've attended: * = my repeats/try to attend when I can vp = very popular/crowded Mild: Dominique* (vp; you might snore) or any restorative/yin, Vickie*, Baxter (vp), Jill* Mild/Medium: Deshauna*, Yoko* (vp), Margi* (vp), Ellen, Richard (vp) Medium: Andrea, Leslie, Nichol*, Monica Medium/Spicy: Annie (vp), Kim (the lovely owner!) Spicy: Jody* (vp), Gaby (vp), Jacqui, Rose, Ann Thu* Want to take classes from the "original" group who worked alongside Rodney Yee (yes, that guy)? It's Yoko, Richard, and Annie (I think?) when this was previously Piedmont Yoga Studio. Want adjustments? It depends on class size and the instructor. Yoko, Margi, Ann Thu and Jody do so when they can. I've seen some some students get upset when instructors tell them how to correct the pose. It's a no-win situation. If you're new to crowded classes, be in the 2nd row where you can see better. The only suggestion I have is having a whiteboard/display where instructors can write down the suggested props. Or maybe a picture of each prop with a number next to it and write it down in the Zoom chat. Sometimes an instructor repeats the prop list 5+ times as folks trickle in online/in person. TIPS: Yoga's very subjective--try a lot of studios until you find one you like in terms of the space, students, instructors, and the parking/commute. Go where you feel comfortable and want to return, it helps you maintain momentum. If it's your very first time at any studio, show up early to sign waivers! FWIW: I started yoga after chemo and I've stuck with it during recovery, relapse, remission, parenthood, severe burnout, and now perimenopause. After 20 years, I still can't do handstands/headstands and there are some poses I just can't do anymore. I've been with this studio for 10+ years and 5+ years for my husband.

The best teachers put in the hours and meet the room with flexibility, the kind that comes from confidence in the material and delivery. Dominique leads every class with steady and tender compassion. As someone who has taught yoga for years myself, I appreciate her seasoned ability to hold space for the community with multiple awarenesses at play. The accessibility piece is always present. This class is great for all bodies and levels of experience and I love being in such a room. She has a natural delivery with clear verbal cues and intuitive encouragement that's even at times poetic. Nest's restorative yoga classes are essential! Located close to Bart, UC Berkeley, you can easily get here using public transportation. The instructors keep the class motivated while challenging us. I always leave feeling better than I showed up because I know I got a great workout. Today's class was 90's themed and they always have a bumpin' playlist. It was easy to squat and hit each rep with the beat. Make sure to show up 15 minutes early to check in, grab a cubby, set up your mat and towel, and grab the appropriate weights and bands. I bring a fitness mat, a hand towel, water, and a hot yoga/Pilates towel made of microfiber. It's perfect for the heated room because trust me you will SWEAT. They don't offer wipes to clean your mat after, only for their weights. I like the studio, lots of disco lights and music. They keep the studio dark, so I always feel comfortable, no one is looking at you. It's a judge free zone! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a challenging

What I don't like is that it's not the cleanest studio. Like I've practiced where dust balls and left behind clumps of hair land on my mat when the person next to me drops their mat. And, there never is enough space when the class is crowded so you might be forced to practice by the door which is where everyone walks in and tracks in dirt from outside. But my review is actually about getting pregnant and asking for a membership freeze! At first it seemed so convenient. Other studios made me fill out a form but this one just said to send an email. So I did. They didn't specify any policies in place and I just thought they were the most mom-friendly studio! But in my flurry (I was traveling abroad for 2 weeks) I didn't read the end part of the email where it asked me to tell them when I wanted the freeze to start. So the next billing cycle came and I caught the charge and circled back. I asked for them to freeze my membership immediately. They replied and told me sure and that I would be credited an additional month when I returned. Everything seemed fine. Then a month later, I kid you not, I got charged again! I emailed them and asked if it was a mistake. Someone else replied and said that it was not- it's part of their 30 day cancellation policy to charge me. And then I immediately received an email after that that my membership got cancelled. So I asked them about the credit, why I was receiving a cancellation notice when I asked for a freeze... and why would I be charged a full month then get my membership immediately canceled? I emailed them three times. I finally learned that there is a policy and freezes only last 90 days. When you request a freeze, you need to specify the start and end date. I still don't know why my membership got canceled instead of frozen. I understand if they are understaffed but when it comes to billing, there should be clear and consistent policies stated available to read online, they should be email to clients when clients inquire, and someone should reply quickly when there are discrepancies!

I went hiking at the Reinhardt Regional Redwood Park for the first time and loved it!…read more Plenty of street parking at the Redwood Bowl lot and we had no issues with vehicle break ins, luckily, although there were a few warning signs up to remind you to put your valuables away. There are bathrooms by the Redwood Bowl but we couldn't find any helpful maps so just used our phones to navigate. The trail we ended up taking was around 4 miles and took 2 hours. Most of it was shaded and among redwood trees so I really enjoyed that this could work as an afternoon hike. It's a moderate difficulty level with some steep areas. There's also a popular picnic area with grills and an archery range. You could even walk to the nearby swimming pool or visit the Chabot. We only did one half of the hiking loop so will be back to check out the other side.

Fortunately, there has been a nice resurgence of redwoods to replace those that were cut down. It ain't old-growth, but we'll take what we can these days. The Good: * Free at certain times of year and at certain entrances (more below) * Mountain biking on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Horseback riding on certain trails (check map and trail signage) * Camping available (check website for info and reservations) * Reservable and non-reservable picnic tables (check map & website) * Restrooms available in parking lots, as well as at some campsites * Nearly forty miles of trails with something for everyone * If you're looking for a moderate ±4.5-mile loop, go to the Skyline entrance and take the Serpentine Prairie Trail to Dunn Trail to Golden Spike Trail, then back to Dunn Trail The Meh: * $5/vehicle entrance fee on weekends and major holidays between April and October, only at the Redwood Gate entrance * Most of the trails are pretty decent, but some are in rough shape due to water damage The Ugly: * One of the few parks I've seen with "off-leash" sections for dogs--which is fine, except you know there's a good majority of dog owners who think they can control their dogs but really can't. We saw a panicked guy chasing his dog down a trail at one point, and who knows when--if ever--he caught up to it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Conclusion: Great park with tons of trails and lots to see and do.

Front desk staff was friendly and I was able to sign up for a 10 visit pass for $51, otherwise it's $6 a visit. I figured this will hopefully keep me consistent for the beginning of the year. The facility itself could use an upgrade but overall it is wat you would expect from an older building. The entrance into the pool is through the locker area which has lockers, changing area with benches, showers, and bathrooms. The pool looks fairly clean on the surface and we'll maintained. There are lanes divided into slow, fast, and medium speeds for circle swimming. Much of the demographics is 50+ during the time I went and they were all spaced out fairly evenly. The pool is actually open earlier for swim club members ($55/month) which is nice for early birds and the crowd seems younger at that time. I was told it's open to the public to sign up for that as well. The water itself was a good temperature. The pool goes from 3 ft to 9 ft. The bottom of the pool was clean on the 3 feet side, but had debris on the floor in the 9ft side. Folks would swim for about 30 minutes - 1 hour and more folks would flow into the lanes. Everyone is respectful and the regulars would chat with one another at the walls. There are kickboards and other supplies you can borrow from in a shed if you'd like. There is a lifeguard on duty. I asked her for the time, but she didn't know it, which I thought was odd because I could hear her talking on the phone or talking aloud. I asked another swimmer for the time and he said there's a clock right behind me, which I didn't see, and I'm surprised the lifeguard couldn't just tell me there was a clock to check. Apart from that, I enjoyed my one hour swim and got a reality check on how out of shape I am. I'll definitely come back to continue swimming and work my way up to the fast lane. I've been seeing Dr. Klein for 20 years and obviously followed her to her new practice. I see her mostly for regular chiropractic adjustments but was shocked to discover that some chiropractors are not certified massage therapists and versed in other treatments as well. It's her ability to integrate so many disciplines that really sets her apart and keeps my body in top condition. I am also duly impressed that she never stops learning. She is not a top professional who sits back and just does the thing she knows about. She is a top professional who keeps learning and integrating new techniques in a never ending journey to be better. And her clients are the ones who benefit. This review wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention that I was in a couple of car accidents in the past ten years. After the first, when I was living out of the area, I saw another chiropractor who mostly patched me up but didn't do more than adjust me and then send me for massage. My neck never actually recovered and I was in pain quite often after that. After the second car accident, I saw Dr. Klein, who put me though chiropractic adjustments, massage, yoga, ART, and lots of other things I don't need to know about because she's so well versed. After her treatment, I was not only recovered from that accident, but from the one before. She's so good, she can fix shoddy work from other chiropractors. At my adjustment today, she used essential oils with me for the first time. She just never stops getting better and neither will you if you visit her. read more

Ok I just like to say that I wasn't sure where I was going to be going to but I just took a chance at going to miss Klein or Doctor Klein I never expected such a wonderful feeling that I received from her treatments because I was in total pain and it was over a month and I didn't know where I was going to do I know where I was going to go so I chose this particular company and I tell you I could have never chose any one else better than this lady Lori Klein will make you feel like a new person she's the most dedicated person in words say how can I put this one since you always would say to me breathe just breathe you need to use in order to make everything work and so I guess when I came in at wasn't breathing but then when I left I was breathing and everytime I hear her in my mind saying just breathe I continually breathe but I was in bad shape but I tell you one thing if you are in bad shape please but only please go see this lady because she is a miracle worker you would not believe the results that you will achieve once you listen and do as she asked you and do you say because she is very good at what you do and I love it and I love her for all the work she put in with me connect me a whole person again thank you thank you thank you she's the best undoubtedly she is the best! read more

I had been having very bad neck and shoulder pain. I don't like the idea of 'cracking' bones, and so I very reluctantly went to a chiropractor. Dr. Laurie was wonderful, and she helped me feel better in days. I like how she combines body work and physical therapy with the adjustments. She really spent time to figure out the root cause and how to make me feel better and was very flexible with her appointments- which during the holiday was so appreciated! I've been going to Dr. Klein for over 10 years, she is truly a healer, hands that work magic, a mind that is always learning. Laurie's practice is expansive, she can use Z health, chiropractic alignment, yoga or ART based upon what you want and need. Her hands-on treatment and simple exercises helped me to strengthen my hamstring and reduce the pain from the piriformis muscle I was experiencing. I highly recommend a visit. read more

I believe in miracles. I have Plantar Fasciitis in both feet and tendonitis in my right arm. Laurie Klein has been helping me heal and decrease my pain levels. The other day after our session, I was able to bend over and fully touch my toes. I have NEVER been able to do this. I shared this with Dr Lauren who suggested trying shockwave therapy. My orthopedist also recommended trying shockwave therapy before considering any kind of invasive procedure. I completed a total of 12 sessions over several months. While each treatment was somewhat uncomfortable--and there was some lingering soreness afterward--I noticed steady, progressive improvement over time. The discomfort was manageable and, in my experience, well worth the results. By the end of the treatment plan, my elbow had significantly improved, and I was able to avoid the invasive procedure that had initially been on the table. That alone made the process incredibly worthwhile. For anyone considering shockwave therapy: it does work, but it requires patience and consistency. Stick with the full course of treatment and give your body time to respond. I'm very grateful to Dr. Emge for guiding me through the process and and helping me recover without surgery.

I came to see Dr…read more Sokolski When I was 7 months pregnant and suffering from a severe form of priformis syndrome, which aggravates the sciatic nerve. Before meeting with Katie, I was on very strong pain killers and muscle relaxants just to be able to walk to the bathroom. I was using a cane and a commode, and nearly passed out every time I had to stand up. I was fearful the stress I was under was doing harm to my baby (and to me)! Katie took extra care of me, listening to all of my issues and doing an excellent job of pinpointing the problems. Her adjustments to my poor, broken body slowly made me feel better. She has an expert knowledge of prenatal chiropractic, and I never once was concerned about my baby while being adjusted. The greatest discovery with Dr. Sokolski however, has been the nutritional response testing. I know with no uncertain doubt that the supplements she has me on have taken away my sciatic pain completely. It took about a month, just as she said it would, but with 4 weeks left to go in my pregnancy, I feel like I can run a marathon. I am completely off of the narcotics, and know that me and my baby are receiving all of the right nutrition. Additionally, I had pulled my round ligament on the right side, and in general been experiencing ligament pain in my lower abdomen. Again, the supplements she has me on allow me to take long walks, when I thought for sure I would be bed ridden the last month. Then I found Valerie Loo, and wow--she's incredible! Instead of just treating the pain, she finds what's out of alignment and teaches me how to correct it using Counter-shapes tailored to my body's unique movement patterns (quirks really). I don't think I've ever worked with a PT who truly understands how everything is connected. One time, my shoulder was hurting, and she had me do a foot exercise--not touching my shoulder at all-- the pain went away. So wild! What she teaches is like self-massage that actually gets to the knot--not just by pressing on it, but by using movements to retrain my body. Now, the pain stays away for days! My first visit went smoothly, Amina at the front desk was just lovely, very thorough. I also appreciated that my first appointment included x-rays. Dr. Ryan went briefly over what he saw, pointing out the misalignment and how it could be causing nerve pain and tightness in my neck/shoulders. I was amazed after the first adjustment I felt relief. When I went home I received a text message and email with self-care exercises. I gave them a try and they were helpful. After my second appointment I felt more relief and have been pain free for four days. I would say I've gone from a 10 in pain to about a three after two sessions.
