This was five years before Miami was even a city. It is the oldest civic group in Miami. Aware of the feeling of isolation that pioneer women could feel in the area Flora wanted a place where women could find fellowship and camaraderie. The club was created with the goal of "community uplift," which was achieved through fundraisers that paid for needs in the community. The club motto was "lend a hand". The promoted literacy and education. Their first project was to raise the money in 1894 for a Sunday school which later became the historic Plymouth Congregational Church. The fame of the Housekeeper's Club spread quickly. Within one year of its inception, Harper's Magazine, a major national publication, profiled the club. The Woman's club became the social hub of the city holding concerts, parties, and performances. Through the years they supported important causes like preserving the Everglades, a library, a girls ranch, cancer survivors, teaching children to swim, and canine companions. Over 100 years later the Woman's Club is still going strong and supporting civic activities in the community. Today you can rent the historic Woman's Club for weddings and private events. The building was designed by Floridas first registered architect Walter de Gamo and it was completed in 1921. The building is made of stucco, oolithic limestone, concrete, and stone. It is a rectangular shape with a gable roof and wrap around porch. In 1975 it was added to the United States national Register of Historic Places. The club has been renovated and special occasions can be booked through CG entertainment. The guests raved about the delish food, and the decor package we selected looked perfect. We had a small gathering around 80 people. To start the festivities off drinks were served on the portico while the wedding party completed the photos. After dinner the DJ took the stage and the dancing started. This intimate venue was dream come true. Rudy and Leslie Rowe made sure we were completely relaxed and handled all the details during the reception allowing us the luxury of being a guest instead of a stressed out host and hostess. He was one of the most talented DJ's I've ever had and I've have been hosting parties at Olga's both personal and professionally for over twenty five years. He accommodated our own playlist for the entrance and dinner and then spun 80's, 90's music for our older friends and nailed it with the young crowd with the latest hits that they love. At Olga's one feels like they are dealing with family. They are so accommodating and professional that planning a party is a pice of cake with no stress. We finally decided to try it out and honestly, I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and patient with us. That was huge because we definitely had a LOT of questions about the rug making process lol. Nobody ever made us feel rushed or annoying, and they explained everything really well. I also loved the huge variety of yarn colors they had to choose from. Besides tufting, they also offer pottery and other fun activities, which makes the whole place feel really creative and unique. The studio itself was such a vibe too. They offered complimentary drinks while we worked on our rugs, which was a really nice touch, and they even have a little coffee shop inside where you can buy coffee and other specialty drinks while you're there. The overall experience was awesome. They walk you through everything step by step, so even beginners can do it without feeling overwhelmed. I also really liked that if you don't finish your rug, you can leave it there and come back another day to continue working on it. 1000% recommend this place if you're looking for something different and fun to do!

We hosted a group business retreat here with 20 people getting to do candle-making *or* pottery and…read moreit was a really wonderful time. For the candle-making, it was a unique experience because everyone got to decorate their candle container, choose a scent AND color for their wax, and then decorate the actual wax too! There were an abundant amount of decor options as well. It was a really artistic and creative candle-making class compared to the general white candle/white container classes, and everyone got to take home a nice product the same day! I participated in the pottery class, and having done pottery classes before, this is truly the best one I've been to yet. Ruben was the most patient and flexible pottery instructor I've met. We had the opportunity to throw 3 pieces of clay, and everyone in our group was able to successfully make 3 full objects. This is mostly because our instructor was able to fix and guide us through most mistakes/issues (holes, breaks, lopsided walls, etc). After throwing the objects on the wheel, we were able to add handles/lids/accessories, add decoration with stamps, or carve/fix our pieces with more carving tools. This was also pretty unique for a pottery wheel class. After the pieces are finished, you can take them home as clay decor, fire them for $2, or glaze them during a separate glazing day for $10. Overall an extremely well run and well-taught art playhouse and we highly recommend it for groups/individuals! Hoping to return soon for their rug tufting class too!
