Loreto is such a beautiful little town and we stopped at Santo Cielo Cocina Gourmet for lunch. Francisco was our server and provided insight on the menu. We ordered margaritas which were excellent. We then ordered the sea bass tacos which were salty and fishy tasting and not our favorite. The chile relleno was covered in green sauce and had no egg batter yet a chile just smothered in green sauce. Another disappointment. The margaritas, chips and guacamole were stellar hence the 3 star score and the service and ambiance were good as well. Once again the City of Loreto is a beautiful spot when traveling. read more

Strange that there were very few customers as in years past the place was very busy. Waitress struggled with menu and manager tried to clarify. Didn't have several items. The linens (napkins) visibly soiled. When bill came the manager advised they don't take credit cards. Suggested we go to the bank down the street. Was approached out front offering 2 for one margarita and pina colada. I asked cerveza? The waiter replied, "yes, cerveza". I sat down with my wife and we ordered 2 beers. Cute, small restaurant in downtown area. Prices are reasonable, and the food was good. Not the best, but not bad for a one time dinner/lunch. Service was normal, but there wasn't many people. They had live music playing which was a nice touch. I wouldn't mind going back! My only complaint was that they couldn't get the cook on my steak properly done. read more

Not sure why this place has mediocre reviews - we had a great time and the food was very good! The server, Luis, convinced us to go in and were very happy we did. He provided excellent service - a fan, shade, and bug repellent, and most importantly ice cold delicious drinks. The ambiance was great. We were right in front of the mission during sunset and dusk. We stopped in here after a cruise to Loretto and it was fabulous. It is right across the street from the church that's been around since 1697. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The restrooms were clean. It really ranks five stars. read more

This attractive restaurant is in a sunken courtyard directly across from the Mission. It is dominated by a large tree rising through the open took and spreading it's limbs to shade the whole place. It is attractive decorated with string lights and lanterns hanging from the limbs. There is also an upper seating area (step stairs) with a nicer view of the Mission. I started with their Cadillac margarita. It was nice, made with a good tequila and with a nice orange not too the flavor. Meats are grilled by the owner/chef at one side of the courtyard. Since this is booked as a steakhouse I had the arrachera. This was served on a wooden cutting board with a half eat of corn, slightly cooked broccoli and carrots, a grilled scallion, and a baked potato already dressed with choices and butter with crema on the side. The meat was tasty and quite tender for a Mexican steak. I like veggies crisp, but these were pretty much raw. All in all a nice plate of food. My wife had the fish tacos and was offered the choice of yellowtail or snapper. Her cubes of yellowtail were nicely grilled with just a hint of crispiness. The strange thing was that the fish on the tacos was completely naked...no salsa, no cabbage, nada. She resorted to line juice and some of my crema to listen them up a bit. They were served with a nice side salad. So not a great meal technically, but the fun and pleasant staff, and attractive setting made it a pleasant meal and worth the expense. read more

I would have given this place only one star but the food was quite good. And judging by the number of fly's buzzing about they liked the food as well. The service on the other hand was abysmal. The wait staff was ill-trained and ill-suited for the restaurant business. The waitresses spent most of their time talking with each other and the bartender at the bar and not bothering to pay attention to their customers. So very sad as it is a nice venue. Chicken and steak are listed on the same page with the accompaniments listed at the bottom of the page. The same accompaniments were for both the steaks and chicken (or so we thought). We decided upon chicken breast with baked potato and grilled vegetables. The chicken breast arrived with salad and a wee bit of rice. We questioned why the change and pointed out to the waitress the menu and what it said. She argued with us and said we were wrong. We argued the menu indicated otherwise where she responded it is a new menu and things were changed. Total B.S. The chef actually came out to see what was going on and offered to correct the problem. We said no and kept what was served. We were not provided with utensils nor napkins. A typical oversight on their part that was rectified by me reaching across to another table and securing said items. I thought about leaving 50 centavo propina but didn't want to insult her so being the nice guy that I am, I left nothing. This is the one place in Loreto to avoid. You would be way better off to visit some hole in the wall taco joint. read more

This place offers patio seating with live music in the center of the city. We listened to a very talented saxophone player play music from the 90s. That was the best part of this dining experience. The food was so-so and their house wine was overly sweet for our liking. The bill included a 15% gratuity yet our waiter still asked if we would like to leave a tip- so review your bill. read more

We had such a good meal here the first night we had to come back and try something else on the menu a couple days later. I have gluten and dairy allergies and the Chef made sure I would have nothing to worry about. For an appetizer we had yellowtail carpaccio I ate the lobster with garlic butter the first evening and the second evening I had the shrimp ajillo. Our server Samantha was very attentive. The chef Carlos came and checked to see how we liked our meals and was very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This really should be a one star review. The second star is for the ambiance and view of the mission. The food was not good at all and it was WAY overpriced. It took us about 3 hours to complete our meal due to the very slow service. We are on vacation and can be patient and embrace the slower pace of life here but 90 minutes from ordering your food to receiving it was a bit long. They also completely forgot our little one's food so it came out as we were leaving. The restaurant is very beautiful and the view of the mission is unique but there are benches out front where you can see a similar view without spending $400 USD on crappy food. read more

This place managed to serve me the most expensive, mediocre tasting, unhealthy dish I had in Mexico all in one setting. First, the good. The server and the decor were fine. I was served in a reasonable amount of time. The dishes *looked* nice. And the server recommended the prime rib and lobster, which I opted not to have. Instead, I had the sweat and sour Thai fish, which the waiter said was the best of the fish dishes. When the dish arrived, it looked like meatballs. The breading on the fish was crispy and and covered with a brown sauce that was more soy sauce than ginger or sweet and sour sauce. The fish itself tasted like tuna or something you could get anywhere. Very dry and tough, and not what I was expecting for a seaside town. read more

So while visiting Loretta I was looking for a nice place to enjoy a great dinner, I read the reviews and thought that this would be the place to go and enjoy a nice steak and lobster. I know flies are expected being out doors, so the wonderful scent of the grill Cooking the steaks and lobster I though "oh yeah" can't wait.... the presentation is wonderful everything looked so yummy. It did take a long time for the food come and when it did "IT Was Cold!!!!! I had to ask to reheat the Lobster tails and ask that they re-cook my steak because it was pretty rare, we had to ask if they could bring us some bread which was also cold on the inside. If the food was hot them I would give it a 5 stars .who knows, just a off day. read more

We had a creative and delicious meal at Santo Cielo Cochina this evening. We tried this new restaurant on the recommendation of Gabriel, the proprietor of Semillas El Gavilan Organic Market. We were delighted by the quality of the food, and the good service we received. We shared our meals - a gigantic lobster tail with a caramelized garlic butter (so yummy), and a chili relleno stuffed with the BEST shrimp (perfectly cooked) and cheese, in a green sauce that was super tasty. We were a big group and got a table on a busy evening which we were very happy with. Food was very mediocre though.. I tried the molcajete was only warm and the sauce was actually cold. Despite a negative review two days earlier, we were drawn in to eat dinner here by a friendly hostess, excellent live music, and a magical nighttime setting. Also by the fact that the tables were actually spaced in away that made us feel comfortable given these times of uncertainty. One thing to remember is that when on vacation and if one expects carefully prepared food when there is only a small kitchen staff, one should not be in a hurry. Our drinks were served promptly along with complementary chips. There were 10 of us, and there was a large table next to us that had ordered prior to us. We usually always enjoy Loreto restaurants- so we were sorely disappointed and actually rather miffed at the level of service and quality of food that we experienced yesterday afternoon 10/31/2021. We were there just as they opened and were seated immediately. Then we sat and sat and finally the waitress stopped talking with her co-workers and deigned to ask us what we wanted. We ordered two cervesas and asked a few questions about the menu. We got the cervesas after a bit of a wait and asked for two orders of the grilled chicken breasts. According to the menu we should have gotten grilled vegetables, papa al horno, elote, cebolla and jalapeno and cactus on the side. What we got was a limp salad, skinny BBQ slices of chicken and a bit of rice. When we finally got our waitresses attention she said were did not order steak we ordered chicken and a salad and rice was all we were entitled to? Then she flounced off and it took us probably 20 minutes to get two more cervesas- NOT from the snooty waitress, but from a young woman bussing tables to pass on the order to the waitress who was too busy trying on Halloween masks. So very very unprofessional. Again it took us a long time to get the word to this "waitress" to bring us our bill. Needless to say no tip for here and we will never be back. This is a really nice up-scale addition to Loreto. We've been twice and loved everything we've had. The "catch of the day" has been my favorite, once was a fillet with garlic sauce, and the second time was sea bass crusted with walnuts. These dinners came with a medley of fresh steamed vegetables, a rarity in Loreto. My husband chose a pasta dinner and salad both times. We also had Chocolate ice cream and carrot cake (more like bread than cake). With wine, beer and dessert, dinner was about $30 for two. Cash only (for the time being at least)! read more
