El Rey Del Taco in Loreto is an absolute gem. The food was incredible -- fresh, flavorful, and made right in front of you. The tacos were loaded with perfectly cooked meat, grilled onions, fresh pico, and then you get to hit the little salsa station to top it exactly how you like it. Great variety and just the right amount of heat. And the pescado... unreal. It was so amazing I didn't even get a photo because I basically swallowed it whole . That's how good it was. What really stood out though was the kindness of the people running it. Super welcoming, hardworking, and genuinely friendly. You can tell they care about what they're serving. Went on a Friday around 9am, as Google says that's the opening time. It was definitely still closed and no one could be seen doing prep or anything. Came back after noon, and it was quite busy. It's a little confusing because no one greets you at the door, nor is there an order counter. But just grab a seat wherever you can find one, and someone will come to get your order. They had 4 options available that day. We got the fish and carne asada. Go with flour tortillas if you can. I usually prefer corn, but we got a couple of each, and the flour were the best. All the tacos were delicious and having the salsa/topping bar is great, so you can add whatever hot sauce, salsas, and veggies. There were only 2 workers there, but they were working their butts off. Definitely try it out - just be prepared to be patient - it's worth it. They are super nice and the food is great! read more

I dont know why this place has good reviews. Its the worst tacos Ive ever had (fish and asada) the fish was extremely dry and the asada was burnt and the tortilla was burnt too. This is an unassuming little place. Currently, they have limited indoor seating along with curbside orders if you don't mind eating on the sidewalk or getting tacos to-go. On our visit they had Cabeza Tacos. We stuck with everything on the normal menu and all of the tacos were the best I've ever had. There is a generous bar with toppings to dress up your tacos to your preference. The flour tortillas are bigger than the corn so if you wanna go big get the flour. I could barely finish 2 tacos. The lemonade was very refreshing. One warning about this place - go early and expect to wait. It is run by a husband and wife team who work really hard. It's amazing to watch. We saw people get upset and leave assuming they were being ignored. It is first come first serve. We waited about 30 minutes but it was worth it. Once they take your order the food arrives very quickly and they tend to you regularly, asking if you want anything else. One taco at a time would work well here. Hands down one of the top taco shops in all the the Baja! They don't have to some consistent hours but if you happen to see them open you have to stop by no matter the wait. Once you get a spot in the shop they will ask what kind of taco that you would like and as your finish a taco they will offer you a new one until you are full. We ordered fish and were clued in to the process by a patron who says he goes there every day during his stays. They serve the tacos, two to a plate, and you get to add your own toppings from the counter. I LOVED the crunchy cucumber slices we ate like chips and everything we topped our tacos with was fresh (radishes, pico, guacamole). Since he is continually cooking he gives me one and I get full. The he asks if I really want another one and I have to admit that I can't eat another one. You never are sure when they will be open, then when they run out of food they close up. Could be noon, could be 3 or who knows? If you are driving by and they are open stop on in! Stumbled across this place while out riding bikes down Calle Benito Juarez. We went inside and felt like we were eating at a family's house. No menus or signs with whats available. You sit down and the waitress tells you what they have today besides fish and asks you what kind of meat, tortillas, and how many tacos you would like. Today they had agua de Limon and we had those too. The tacos are double wrapped with two tortillas like any good taco should be. The fish was hot and super crunchy, not at all soggy or pale. The salsas and toppings were fresh and plentiful. The agua was cold and refreshing. 3 ample tacos and two aguas set us back 150 pesos, about $7.50. We were told the hours were hit and miss. And when we got there we understood why. They sold out while we were eating but made sure they had enough left over in case anyone in the restaurant wanted more. Then discussing days of operation with another customer we learned they are typically open Wednesday-Saturday and even though the following day was a Thursday they said two times that *maybe* they would be open tomorrow. It's all about the salsa. We ordered two fish tacos each. Got the first one and went through the salsa bar. Incredible! But after the first one there was no way we could have a second which of course the waitress anticipated. Total bill was $4 US. Also bought a T shirt for $10. Such a deal.
