Good ambience and it was open on New Year's Day. They had a nice band. Food took about 45 minutes to get (I suggest you order an appetizer that doesn't need preparation to tie you over). The meat was good & the guacamole was fresh. A lot of locals here. Seems like a place to have a lot of alcohol with friends. If you need the bathroom, they may not have toilet paper, just a warning. Bring your own or some napkins. This restaurant is "off" the highway, it is not in the center of town. You will need a car or taxi to access. read more

I'm honestly very confused about this meal. We stopped for lunch specifically for the clams. We were the only guests in the restaurant, but it was between normal meal times. Our server introduced himself & asked our names every time he came to our table, at least 6 times in the hour. Drinks- I ordered "ranch water" with Don Julio Blanco & my husband ordered a traditional margarita with Cazadores Reposado. We observed both drinks were made with Don Julio 70. We mentioned to server & he said "this better." Not only is it an extra 60 pesos per shot, but too good of tequila to waste mixing. He laughed & said "but better!" We were charged the higher price on bill as well. Good- salsa & chips, complimentary, fresh & good. My husband got the fried crabs, delicious & fresh. I got the clams. The sauce was excellent, but the actual clams left something to be desired. I received 6 large clams split in half. The bodies of the clams were missing, just the outer portion & arm left behind for me to eat. Not filing, very disappointing. I did not bother discussing with the server since he had introduced himself 5 times at this point & had dismissed our tequila issue. read more

We like trying new places and we stopped at the Palapas restaurant. To our amusement the food is amazing and the plating is gorgeous. My husband had steak it was cooked delightful. I am not a seafood person and had chicken fajita style and it was tender and very flavorful. I will recommend La Talapas restaurant. read more

The refried beans were barely room temperature when served. Service was slow and the server needed to be reminded that our drinks were sitting at the bar waiting for him to pick up. The chips and salsa were ok, but the salsa containers were barely full, as if they had come from another table without being refilled. read more

This place has the most attentive servers. Every time I lift my hands off the tables, sure enough a server was on my side asking if I needed any assistances! Now thats what I called it "Classy service!!" The seafood here is delicious and mouthwatering!!! The clams (Almeja) is immersed in buttering yummies! And the crab was fried and season with peppers. Stopped in for dinner on our first night. No Pacifico! That did not make Sal happy. We started with clams guacamole and ceviche. All were great. They put out a big platter with different salsas pickled onion. Moved on to the fried fish tacos. Sal ate grilled fresh sea bass. Remember when you eat fresh fish there it is literally hours old. Also excellent. Clean place. Friendly staff. Some people say they don't tip there. If your an American they kinda expect it. The waiters in Mexico are excellent and well deserving of a tip or propina. So don't be tight. read more

Great restaurant for traditional Mexican food. Interior of restaurant is spacious and quite colorful. Bar is well stocked. Waiters attentive. Almost as soon as we sat down, a waiter came over with menus and asked what we would like to drink. That's amazing as you don't get that in a lot of restaurants here in Mexico. I was excited to try the local beer from El Z, but was told they were out. I don't know if that meant out or out as in we no longer serve. Right about the time our drinks arrived, so did an amazing dish of chips and salsas. The salsa verde has the right amount of heat, the salsa roja was amazeballs as well. We didn't do the platter of nibbles justice, though. My date had chicken enchiladas and I had a green salad with bleu cheese dressing and tortilla soup. The chicken enchiladas were moist and filled with chicken. No skimping on the enchilada sauce here. I hate it when I still have enchiladas to eat and run out of sauce. It's like having cereal and realizing you don't have enough milk! The salad I had wasn't what I imagined but that's because I am used to US salads. Regardless, this did not disappoint. It had fresh Roma tomatoes, sliced carrots, sliced cucumbers, avocado sliced and shredded lettuce. The dressing came on the side and let me say I want to know where they buy their bleu cheese because it was delicious! I was not impressed with the tortilla soup - it was pretty flavourless. No heat, no zip, just blah. For some, it might just what their palate wants. Mine wants oomph, so I added the salsa verde, which somewhat gave the soup a pulse. All in all, we'd go back. Good service. Great food. Live music. We had the shrimp Chile rellenos, and the breaded shrimp. The Chile relleno had lots of cheese and shrimp and came with rice and beans. The palapa that makes up this restaurant is super cool looking and impressive. It was a hot day and pretty warm inside of the restaurant. They didn't have as many fans going as other restaurants in town. The baked potato was more like a potato soup but it was tasty. The fish tacos were tasty but had a thicker breading than I prefer. The salad was great and the guacamole was also great. The margaritas were kind of watery and not our favorites. read more

I would not recommend this place. The wait staff seated us promptly and gave us menus. 10 minutes later I had to go find someone to take our order. There were only a few people in the restaurant besides us so not at all busy. There were two waitresses standing with cooks visiting. They took our orders and brought our drinks. The food was beautiful but cold and very bland. The wait staff never came back to check on us and again I had to go find someone for our bill. We had an awful experience here. The green salad was served with canned beans and peas. Yuck. The dressing that came with it was more like tartar sauce. I had to flag someone down to give me salt and pepper. Our server was m.i.a. for most of our meal. He never even returned to see if we wanted a second round of drinks. My husband was already finished with his dinner before mine even showed up. The food was not awful, but not great either. There were only about 4 other tables occupied. So it's not like the place was packed. I would never go back. The only thing I enjoyed was the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's really cute. Which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. read more

Arrived with our freshly caught yellowtail filets from our morning outing on the Sea. We were greeted friendly and asked how we'd like it prepared. The freshly prepared salsas and condiments were neatly presented. These were enjoyed along with our wonderfully prepared garlic grilled fish. I see good reviews for this place but unfortunately we cannot agree. We came to this restaurant as we understood they did some special clams (almejas chocolatas). However, they listed the items that they did not have on the menu tonight and clams were among them. We decided to stay anyway. We ordered chimichanga and grilled fish. The chimichanga was ok-ish but the rice was way over cooked, dry. The rice seemed reheated and some of it appeared to have been left in the bottom of the saucepan way too long (congealed, stuck together). The salad was also terrible. It consisted of very tired lettuce, dry slices of carrot, tired tomato, slices of red and green pepper and cucumber. Rarely have I seen such a boring salad. Neither of us finished the salad. The fish was not great. Aside from being over cooked and also soggy. It seemed as if it might have come from the freezer. I had asked if it was fresh before ordering and I was told yes. It should be worth mentioning that I chose the very same fish dish the evening before in another restaurant, also in Loreto, and it was really good. read more

The meals in Loreto have all been good to great up until we ate at La Palapa. The setting is nice, the beer selection is good, my margarita was tiny but fine. Service was also okay. The problem was the food. We had grilled chicken and the mole chicken. I've had better mole everywhere else I've ever eaten it. It wasn't offensive but it's strongest flavor was of burnt toast. The balance was totally off. The real sin was that the chicken pieces were totally over cooked. Dry and flavorless. Same for the grilled chicken. The salsa plater was flavorful, so if you need a cool shady spot for a beer and chips/salsa, this place would definitely work. read more

Slowest restaurant in Loreto. Arrived 7:00 pm. Drinks came quickly. I hour later I asked the waiter where our food was. He replied 5 minutes. The table next ordered same time then ate and left while our food still did not come. At 1 hour 20 minutes I spoke to manager. Went to sit and a table of 4 who arrive 45 minutes after us received their food. I told my dinner partner we were leaving. As we put on jackets a waiter rushed over with my green salad. This same thing happened 4 or 5 years ago. I hoped that they had improved. The food (if you get it) is always excellent here but service is too slow. No normal meal is good enough for a 80 or 90 minute wait. read more

We had a very unpleasant experience when trying to have dinner at this place. We tried walking in yesterday and even when they had empty tables they did not took walk ins because of a "large group" that was supposed to get there, that we could wait for 30 minutes and see if they could take ya. We decided to walk and go back, but at the time we went back they said they still could not take us in, so we did a reservation for the next day. The place smelled good so we had a good feeling about it. We call to confirm as required, but no one answered either phone or WhatsApp to confirm reservation, and when we got there we were waiting, they saw us there waiting and still nobody greet us. At the same time, a group of US people with no reservation got there and were greet and a table was offered. We talked to the manager and after a long talk they offered a place. We felt like Mexican Tourist are not treated as US tourist are. I would not recommend this place, service was absolutely awful. read more

Super reliable seafood in a rustic palapa setting - year-after-year. I always get the house special clams, a big plate of chocolates (Pismos) lightly grilled on mesquite. The ceviche is also solid, and I don't think I've ever been in a restaurant that served such a tasty and generous platter of chips and salsas. If there's a better restaurant in Loreto I haven't eaten there yet. read more

We ate here based on a reccomendation of another guest at our habitation. I had the chili rellanos and as posted by another reviewer (Marco) the chili's were not roasted. I did not like them at all. They had a funky taste. We also had the chicken Fajitas and they were a bit like Asian stirfry. The trese leche cake was very good. I would go again but I would try the carne. read more
