    01.13.24 warm lighting outdoor dining
    May A.

Delicious local cuisine [CORON, PALAWAN Philippines] Mom and I came to dine here based on the positive reviews. It was quite a ways from our resort but I was determined LoL! We rode the tricycle. The restaurant was packed (both local and tourists) but we lucked out and immediately got seated. Much of the seating were under covered thatched roof but half was in a garden setting with warm outdoor lighting... it had a pretty ambiance. We ordered sinigang na baboy (pork sinigang) and Tagalog bistek and, of course, rice. We had quite a wait for our food, even with just the two entrees. Anyway, when it was finally served I was excited to try the bistek. Loved the tender meat of the marinated beef. So tasty and flavorful. The sinigang is always a favorite comfort food. Aside from the slow service our first time experience was good. Would've loved to come back but this was our last evening in Coron. Perhaps another trip some other time. The food was great! Service is good. The ambience is very traditiona Filipinol. We ordered chicharon bulaklak for our appetizer, bbq liempo (ate it before taking a pic), seafood kare kare and adobo fried rice. Washed it all down w calamans Juice with honey. (So good!) Portions are pretty big. We hardly made a dent in our order.

Quick 1-minute walk from the Two Seasons Bayside Hotel. Come here if you're looking for an authentic experience. Small hole in the wall. Food is great here, staff is friendly and service is quick! Got food in 20 minutes. Hubby & I got the beef kare kare, chicken sisig and plain white rice. The kare kare was delicious and was peanut buttery goodness! The chicken sisig was a surprise but also really good as well! I'm used to chicken sisig that has shredded chicken in it and is more like a Filipino chicken salad. The chicken sisig at Santino's has small chunks of chicken sautéed in a sweet lime chili sauce. Highly recommend this place! I'm still dreaming of it! Disclaimer: hubs and I love animals so we didn't mind the dogs and cats walking through. Loosen up. Just adds to the whole cultural experience!

Excellent first meal in Coron! We took a couple tricycles from our hotel to Santino's Grill. Our guide recommended this place and it did not disappoint. I realized later that this place is known for it's delicious ribs. I have seen reviews on trip adviser and google but none on yelp yet. SO HERE I GO... Ambiance: You wouldn't notice this place from the street but once you enter, the wooden tables, wooden bar, and straw roofing will immediately give you the island vibes! It's very casual and relaxed. FOOD: Came here with a group of 8. We ordered a variety of items to pass around and share. -We started with their soup. I can't remember which soup it was...it might have been some type of sinigang with vegetables but it was flavored well! -I highly recommend their sisig! They serve it on a sizzling plate and it has the perfect amount of spice with a unique sauce that makes the flavor unique to Santino's grill. - The squid which was also served on a sizzling plate was also very delicios. - I also ordered the fish and chips. Fish was fresh and I really enjoyed the batter they used. However, it could use a little bit more fish. - Their Bistik tagalog was good but I have had better. - I also recommend their beef ribs. The meat falls off the bones just right! The BBQ sauce they provide is also very yummy! - We didn't order any alcohol but this place definitely seems like a fun place to enjoy a drink or two! - YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THEIR MANGO SHAKE STAFF: Staff are very friendly and polite. Service was good. The food took a while but that is because they are actually cooking the food and it is made fresh! OVERALL, I really enjoyed my meal here. I recommend this restaurant for the food and experience. Unfortunately, a few of the items we wanted to try were sold that day. I am not sure when I will be able to visit again, but I would love to try more items from their menu!

We were directed to a nipa hut for seating and offered menus immediately. No AC but we did have a fan in our hut that was helpful in circulating air in the section. We ordered one of the seafood platters, fried chicken with fries, kang kong with garlic, mushrooms, long silog, a fresh buko juice, and a few soft drinks-Coke, Sprite, bottled water. The food came out almost immediately (the long silog was the last to come out). The fried chicken (by photo had 4 pieces and fries) was only 3 pieces with fries. Pretty tasty and definitely different from fried chicken back home. The kang kong was really good, especially with extra amounts of garlic. Same with the mushrooms, although I ate around the green chiles since I don't really do spice. I did like the platter of seafood--delicious fish, 2 clams were pretty good with seasoning, 6 shrimp with garlic, and small amount of kang kong with some garlic. Honestly, the platter was more appropriate to feed 2 to even 3 people (if that). The long silog came and was as expected with the rice, egg, 2 links of longganisa and some fresh fruit. The fresh buko was huge with a lot of coconut juice and meat inside. It came with a spoon and straw to sip out juice/scoop out meat. The presentation was amazing, but I felt like you were paying more for the look and less for the food portions. Service was also a bit sporadic. They were pretty attentive up until we got the food but I feel like they were under staffed for the amount of people in the venue. Also note that you have to use a tabo for hand washing and using the toilet. No running water here. The toilets and handwash area are located at the back of the restaurant and a hand wash sink area set up more central to the restaurant When checking out at the front, we were given the option of cash or charge. If you do charge, it is a 10% service fee.

Many seating options for you to choose from: traditional tables and chairs, low tables where you can sit on the floor, or a nipa hut style booth. No aircon but the fans are sufficient in the morning or at night when it's cooler. We felt adventurous, so we tried: - Crocodile sisig - Meat was ground up, couldn't really appreciate the crocodile meat's taste and texture. It would be better if meat was cut up into chunks instead. - Bird's Nest Soup - made from nests collected locally. This was a tasty soup, similar in texture and taste to a Chinese egg drop soup. - Sizzling Garlic Kangkong - tasty - Ensaladang Lato (Seaweed salad) - think of popping boba from the sea. - Roasted chicken - ok - Lechon Kawali - hard to chew - Sinigang na isda - ok - Complimentary fish or shrimp crackers - crunchy and tasty. Friendly accommodating staff, relaxing atmosphere with piano music playing in the background, and Island cats lounging under the tables waiting for your scraps: it's a solid place to have a meal.

Oysters were dry and grilled to dried tidbits, with only calamansi since we didn't want cheese. Beef steak - I have never had beefsteak that tasted like chocolate and banana ketchup. I had to spit it out. Sizzling pusit - never came out the waitress said we didn't order it when it was written on the order tab they they whited out Calamares - didn't come out and they again denied it and whited it out on the order receipt Kinilaw was good, very citrusy and didn't taste fishy. Clam soup mediocre and luke warm Garlic butter shrimp was overcooked. Sinigang mainly consisted of fat and was luke warm did not have enough tamarind base to even call it sinigang. They are located right on the beach in Central El Nido on Rizal Street. Unlike other "Filipino" restaurants around town, you will actually see local Filipino families dining in. That's how you know it's legit! We visited twice while in El Nido. The 1st time around, we pointed at the fresh seafood outside to have it grilled up and served to us upstairs some time later. I had a Unicorn Fish, a sweet, slightly briny white fish native to El Nido. My friend had a fresh Yellowtail and we also opted for the biggest should-be lobster prawn they had. So delicious. The 2nd visit, we watched the sunset from a window side table as a close to our island hopping tours. On said visit, we ordered Sizzling Pork Sisig, Beef Kaldereta, and Crispy Pata. Each dish was absolutely ginormous and automatically comes with rice. The ultimate best value on the island! Yes, dishes such as Crispy Pata and Sisig are on the fluffier/ fattier side but that's what makes it GOOD. Beef Kaldereta was saucier than I am accustomed but I engorged myself in its richness. Keep in mind, dishes are 250-350 PHP but are served as family style portions. Service was hit or miss at least when it came to getting the bill, but you really gotta raise your hand and yell at them -- it is the way, the Filipino way! They are also more likely to cater to the locals first which may contribute to a wait, but with such a beautiful view in paradise and the bustling of the restaurant teeming with people watching opportunities including some adings coming around selling home-made pastillas de leche, there is just so much to distract while you wait the some times 20-30 minutes for your food.

It has all the signs and symptoms of a tourist trap, BUT it doesn't have to come with bad food. The food here is very good. In all actuality, the food here is pretty much chef inspired. It's delicious and it's calibrated to cater to the foreign toungue. Why wouldn't you order the seafood here? Look around you! 360° of ocean water. NO JOKE! Three things that jumped out and spoke to me was the Kilawin (filipino version of cevice), sea grape salad, and the Prawns (shrimp on steroids) La Serenita style. Let's talk about the Prawns La Sirenetta. I don't know who did the sauce, but it's mouth smashingly exquisite! Strong garlicky note with creamy coconut white wine sauce is truly out of this world. The sea grapes are a local thing with a western twist. I'm used to just eating this tossed with just tomatoes. The western twist with the vinaigrette is different, but it works. The tuna chunks,,, if you like sashime, you'll love this dish. Don't bother ordering the sea grapes and the tuna chunks if you're the chicken fingers and potato sticks type of person. Trust me, your tastebuds are too ignorant for that sort of thing. We came for a late lunch just because I knew what kind of view we're dealing with. We ordered tuna sisig, grilled liempo, and home-made noodles (chicken and seafood). We are not expecting much because Coron is still blooming. Food was served quick. Taste is average. I didn't really like the fact that our food is served cold. Steamed rice and garlic rice are both cold. The liempo is not freshly grilled obviously as it is served warm. Home-made noodles, both chicken and seafood, are stiff. Tuna sisig is too finely chopped that you cannot even distinguish the tuna. If you love tuna as much as I do, you will know how to differentiate fresh from not. Customer service is bad as well. There's seven of us, five of which ordered calamansi juice and mango juice. My mom is craving something colder as we just came down from Mt. Tapyas and she wants to cool off. As a courtesy, we let our server know. (There's no sign that states outside food and beverage is not allowed.) They said it is not permissible and if we do so, there will be an extra charge. The server also mentioned something about them not being liable if we get a tummy ache. I told them that they are not responsible for the me getting a stomach ache from the food they were about to serve, so much more for a beverage from another vendor. This is a dumb argument so I let it go. Besides, I already ordered food so I don't much of a choice but to stay. Lastly, they charge an additional Php 10 if you would like a to-go box. Overall, my family did not have a good experience in this place. I recommend you go to the next door grill, Carl's BBQ where ambience if better.
