We had a total redo of our backyard done by Santini (minus the pool). Our first step was creating the design. Marty had a lot of great ideas to make our backyard flow from one area to the next. Marty was there every step of the way making sure everything was going well. After the demo of our yard, he "painted" out the design, we were then able to say "yes, that will look great" or "no, let's do this." He was very accommodating to our changes. Where do I begin... My mom is sick & in the hospital as I write this. When she went in, she called me to tell me Santini's Landscaping would be at the house for 2 days. Ok cool. The first day came & went. I walked out back & immediately noticed a mess. Their garbage in 3 different areas, a pile of gravel that had not been leveled out, gravel on the concrete & an unfinished border. I didn't read too much into it at the time because I thought they were coming back the next day. Turns out, he did not plan on coming back & was requesting payment. I was in shock. I called him & told him as a business owner myself I would never leave my work/someone's home like that. He replied with, "I gave your mom a deal." "I wanted to get my guys in & out for your mom." He was friendly & in my opinion manipulative over the phone. At this point, not once did he apologize or offer to come back & clean up his mess. When we hung up, I had to sit & think for a minute. I called my husband & another landscaping company for a second opinion. At first I was going to have my husband clean up their mess, but decided to text the owner instead. I text him, "...I'm disappointed that as a company you did not offer to clean up your mess after it was brought to your attention." And sent him pictures. Finally an apology & text back that he would send someone out in the morning. In the meantime, we had another landscaping company come out for the second opinion. We were told my mom was taken advantage of. When the crew showed up the next morning, my husband was there to greet them & yes of course my husband was upset. He expressed his concerns to the owner about the second opinion & the unfinished border. That unfortunately my mom agreed to because she doesn't know any better. The owner stated he's been doing this for 40+ years yet, he couldn't/wouldn't figure out how to place a border over the tree roots. (When the second opinion already had an idea.) My husband told the owner to make it right, but he refused to do/try anything. My husband said the owner was a d***. He had to walk away. As all this is happening the owner is texting my mom in the hospital stressing her out instead of using good customer service. Unfortunately, she hired him not us, so we were stuck paying him. Now we are hiring someone else to finish the job he couldn't do. He's unprofessional & overpriced. I expect he'll be replying to this, but I don't care. No one messes with my mom. Pictures to follow. UPDATE I'm not reading or entertaining his response/excuses. The good news is, the "second opinion" landscaper was right. It could be done. Took 1 hour with $60 material. I'm sure they do some things OK... I saw on their website that they will install sod, so I called. When the man on the other end of the phone heard that was the reason I was calling, he cut me off and explained to me that they haven't installed sod for years despite their own advertising to the contrary. Big waste of time. Good luck figuring out what they ACTUALLY do. ___________________________________________________ UPDATE: And now, after Santini's Landscaping's response... They will cut you off of your "long drawn out description" (which in my case included as much side-yard covered patio, outdoor kitchen, rock features, fruit trees, and artificial grass, our tens of thousands we saved and budgeted for could buy, along with the 200 square feet of, yes, actual grass in the tiny front yard and city right-of-way) if you start the conversation with "I'd like to have some sod placed in the front of my home along wi..." I'm not sure who they are willing to pay attention to or why a potential customer starting with a request for one of their advertised services somehow became a non-starter for everything else to be done on my 5,000 square feet of bare dirt, but I would look elsewhere if you wish to be treated with respect and not waste your time. read more

I appreciated his candor, thoughtfulness, and experience during the initial quotation, where he offered insights into what parts of our design may or may not work and how they could be tweaked to serve us better. Once his team began work, they were incredibly quick, hard working, and professional. They finished our entirely undeveloped back yard project in 8 days, putting in pavers, gravel, walls, and artificial turf. The team always checked in at key points to make sure the design was turning out as we wanted. I can't thank Marty and his guys enough for the beautiful job they did on my backyard. Marty's experience and knowledge really helped the project go from paper to a reality. His guys take great pride in their work, and really make sure lines are straight and every paver is level. My backyard now is a place I can host large gatherings with friends and family. Just gave these people a call inquiring about sprinkler and landscaping services. Some guy answered the phone was very rude and short over. I started by asking about sprinkler services and this guy responds "no, good bye" and hung up in my face before I could finish my inquiry. I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time and subject themselves to the negativity coming from this company's lack of customer service. read more

I have a 2 because he showed up to our appointment on time. We had just hired another crew to put in our concrete steps on our shipped backyard, the concrete was a day old. First thing he said is: "why'd you do your steps that color? I would've done them pink." Rude. He then proceeded to talk about how he would've done the steps. Then quoted us $10-12k for installation of plants, flowers, irrigation and boulders. He said we should have an engineer test out sold and the total cost of that with our initial needs would be $13-14k. I was a bit shocked, but understood that every company is different. While he was here he answered his phone about 4-5 times and had a conversation with potential customers right in front of us, rude. When I initially called I left a voicemail, I guess we weren't important enough to let the calls go to voicemail. We ended up going to a nursery off 8-mile road. Everything, including modifications for soil erosion prevention is going to cost us $5,300. I am glad there are companies out there who don't try to take advantage of people and give honest work at honest prices. read more

Called for an estimate for concrete and grass. Guy wants to talk us into artificial grass. Repeatedly stated I did not want that. He tells me that he can put, grass but it wont last. My husband and I had an appointment to get an estimate, and Santino came and was nice. He told us about a program where you could get s loan for artificial grass. When I called to follow up on the loan he said there is no loan for concrete.. even though I was asking about the grass. He then said that he had been very busy and hadn't gotten a chance to look and see if our neighborhood qualified. I asked him to call me back when he had time... he never did. read more

I would never consider calling this place ever again to do any sort of maintenance on my property. I had about $20,000 worth of work that needed to be done. Called Santini's to come out for an estimate, the man I spoke with was very short with me, and asked me to text a number to set something up. I did, and didn't get a reply until two weeks later asking if I still needed an estimate? I replied with "two weeks later? No thanks" to which they replied, they're busy and moving shops blah blah blah. This could have been explained to me during our first conversation, I would have been a little more understanding. After moving into our new home we knew one of our first projects to get done was to get the backyard. The owner Marty was great, he answered all of our questions and was always great at getting back to us right away. We had drainage installed, had concrete poured, put in some trees and plants, put in a zero waterfall with rocks, and sod and sprinkling system put in. Santini gave us an appointment for a concrete estimate on 08/14/15 at 630pm. He said the time was good and he would be there that evening. We (father and I) have two properties next to each other and were looking for approximately 50-60 yards of concrete installed depending on design. We both adjusted our schedules to make it to the appointment on time after work. We travel 25 minutes to the job site, arriving on time, and wait over 45 minutes only to have Santini no show. We tried calling and he had shut his phone off. A phone call or text saying he wouldn't have made it would have been fine and a reschedule no problem. But a no show gives him a no thanks. We will take our money else where and so should you. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. They did a terrible job. poured concrete in a driveway without re-bar. Put down rocks in a side yard without putting down the black paper to keep weeds out, just put down a very thin weed net. Weeds came up within a week and the driveway will not last without re-bar. When I checked his license, it was only for Landscaping and not concrete. That should have been my first clue not to let him do the work. I made a mistake by letting him do the job but want to see to it that others realize what they are getting into. His license covers only landscaping and he is not good at that. read more

Santini's did a great job on my backyard. I have a backyard with 7 redwoods and no sunlight. They came in and removed all the problem areas the trees were creating. They also put in french drains, and some drip lines for my trees. I choose to go with the ECO 80 turf and it looks really good. Marty and his guys are great, we just had them put in artificial turf as our front lawn. We happened to met Marty in Home Depot while we were both shopping and he came to our house 30 mins later to provide an estimate. Once we discussed our budget he was great in helping us fit the project into the designated budget while ensuring the end result was what we desired. His guys are extremely hard workers and professional while still being willing to smile and wave at small children who are curious about what is happening. In total the job took two days and the end result was so good that three of my neighbors asked for estimates and at least two of them are planning on using Marty and his crew. read more
