Great tour with Captain Rick! We caught the boat at Wyndham (we were staying there), which adds a…read morecouple of bucks to the ticket, but you get an extra ride to and from the Santee state park to pick up the other passengers, so I thought it was a good deal for the convenience. The tour lasts about 2 hours, and goes from the state park and follows the original path of the Santee river, through the sunken cypress forest, and back around across the lake. We saw quite a few nesting ospreys, and a bunch of other aquatic birds, turtles and a gator. Captain Rick was very knowledgeable about the history and wildlife. One tidbit is that Lake Marion is named after the Revolutionary War here Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, who operated in the area. I highly recommend this tour if you're in the area, it's a lot of fun and very interesting.
