    Kayaking on the creek

This is my go to kayak rental spot on Shem creek! The staff are friendly and the process of renting a kayak is very easy. You can either reserve ahead of time or do walk in rentals. They have tours as well. Prior to getting you set up in the kayak, there is a safety demonstration and a chance for a staff member to answer any questions you might have. I'd highly recommend renting a kayak to go to crab bank island between mid Oct-mid March. For parking there is some free spots in front of the shop that fill up pretty fast otherwise there's parking you can pay for.

If you want to truly see Shem Creek, this is one of the best ways to do it. Being adventurous, my wife and I used Nature Adventures as a kayak outfitter while we had some friends visiting from out of town. We called in advance and were able to book a two hour slot right at what they consider their Happy Hour, which was the perfect time of day for us to catch some of the sunset and explore without the heat of the day. On arrival we were quickly greeted and signed in. We were helped with personal flotation devices (life jackets), handed paddles, and briefed on some key safety concerns we might encounter during our paddling trip. I was excited to have a a clean kayak to jump in and one of their staff members helped to launch us into the creek. Overall we had a great experience with NA due to their friendliness and willingness to help. Most excitingly, we were able to see more of Shem Creek and a feeder creek than I have ever seen before. Travel Tip: It's a whole different experience to see Shem Creek from the water level. If you're able to kayak, I would definitely recommend giving it a try on your own or going on one of their guided tours. Enjoy!

Easy online reservation, easy going, and friendly staff. On our way down to Shem Creek, there was really bad weather, thunder, lightning, massive rain. The staff called me to talk about options and to go over what the plan was, we arrived unknowing what we were going to do, luckily the weather cooperated and cleared up and we were able to head out on the water. Staff went over the area map well and we had a great time on our trip out in the harbor.

Have rented stand up paddle boards twice from this place. Online reservations were easy, even had to change a few things (people added/canceled). No issues with waivers, check in was easy at the desk. They have a place to leave car keys. Beautiful area to be on the water! Loved the experience!

I've lived here nearly my whole life and had no idea there are MANATEES in Shem Creek! Renting a kayak ($3 off for being a local) and paddling down Shem Creek to watch 4 manatees playing was one of the best things I've ever done! Then my date and I went out into the harbor to explore. On our way back, we saw dolphins and listened to a little live music coming from Red's. The service was friendly and we got a good mini lesson before getting on the water. I can't wait to go back and do it again. :)

Amazing company with great customer service. The girl working 04/21/2019 Saturday morning did a great job when about 15 of us showed up. There was a mistake in the planning and she wasn't aware we were going to be there. She worked her butt off to get us all out and on the water all by herself! I would recommend this place for travelers and locals alike!

For the paddle boarding, what are the pros and cons of having a tour guide vs not? We have been paddle boarding before and know how to do it. But does a guide make the experience more worthwhile?

Sorry for the delay in this, we don't Yelp much. By now you have probably been paddleboarding a lot, but for those reading this here is our answer.… Read more

The 2 workers were knowledgeable and helpful and really were able alleviate my fear of getting washed out to sea! The most challenging hung part was figuring out how to get into the front gate! When you pull up, someone has to get out of the car, go in and find someone to open the gate. I don't recall seeing this written anywhere. we learned it after we sat at the gate for 2 min w/out anything happening. Once we got it, we had to sign some consents and then we headed across a field to the river. They provided a waterproof cell phone case, a map, and extra paddles in case the ones your using fall into the water. They provide a little tutorial on how to paddle which was very helpful. Then they load you in and send you on your way! it was so much fun!

The instructor Luke did a nice beginners explanation of the flow of the river and how to paddle. The tour was two hours and he was really informed from types of ecology, Charleston history, changing tides, alligators, and pretty much anything else under the sun. I also have to say thank you to Luke, he would pull trash (empty bottles, cans, even a basketball!!) out of the water to dispose of correctly. You can tell he really cares about what he's doing and the area he's from. Please do yourself a favor, get on the water and enjoy seeing Middleton in another way.

As the Maid of Honor, I was in charge of plans for the weekend and I wanted to start the trip with my own version of a bike tour around Folly. I called 2 days prior to our arrival because I didn't initially think we needed a formal reservation, but started to get nervous as we got closer to the trip. When I called, the guys told me it would be no problem and they would have 10 bikes ready for us at 11:00am that Friday. I wasn't sure what would happen when we arrived, so I held my breath and crossed my fingers all would work out. I was ecstatic when we arrived to see Will and Cameron already at the door waiting on us!! We were maybe 5 minutes or so after 11:00 (10 girls can be a lot to get out the door) but they both commented on us "being on time," so I felt much better. They got us setup and on our way very quickly. I even asked for some of their "expert opinions" on restaurant/bars we should stop throughout the day and they provided us with great recommendations. I think having the bikes on a Friday was perfect because we didn't run into too much traffic and it felt very safe everywhere we went. We were really sad to return the bikes at the end of the day. I thought we would only spend a few hours on them since Folly isn't that big, but we were having so much fun we stayed on them until the shop was closing. By the end of the weekend, I asked the girls what their favorite part of the trip was and the most common response was the bikes!! If I had to do it over, I would probably pay to rent bikes for the full weekend. It was the best way to get 10 girls around Folly Beach!
