The food was good...not El Ranchero good (if you live near Emporia, Franklin, or Murfreesboro you know what I am talking about).,.but still quite good. On our way to the outer banks got a room for the night and went here for dinner. It has become a thing for us to get Mexican for dinner. The staff is very friendly the food is very good, we did not have to wait long for it and not overly expensive. Very cheerful and welcoming atmosphere. I love it here! When the owner is our server, I know he is going to ensure we are straight, especially with the drinks. I love a fresh margarita and he makes it just right! This past week, I visited and I believe a new worker waited on us. He did well: attentive, order was delivered as we asked and my margarita was great! I love the complimentary chips and the salsa. It's never packed as in, no issue with getting a seat or booth. The service, super fast! This restaurant is located in a strip mall off of the busy Godwin Blvd. Other eateries are nearby. Shopping not so much, but there is a Dollar Tree within walking distance. If you are in the area and enjoy Mexican, check them out. The beef for the taco... Got here late at around 8:30pm after working and the staff treated us so well. Food and drinks came out as fast as we ordered them. The food was some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Ate here with the family yesterday evening and was not impressed. Our service was very good with no complaints there. The food was passable, but with little flavor. My wife had shrimp and rice and she said it was very bland while my fajitas lacked flavor from spice. A healthy dose of hot sauce made it better, but still not as good as others in the area. The salsa also didn't have a lot of flavor. Now the fajitas only came with two tortillas and I ordered two more. Well those two cost another $1. I know that sounds trivial, but really? Only providing two tortillas is not enough to begin with. I realize everyone is different, but this is not a place I will return to. read more

My son and I hit Santa Fe today for a late lunch. As always the staff is super friendly- hot chips and spicy salsa come straight to the table and your drink of choice follows within milliseconds! I've been trying to branch out a little from my usual Taco Salad here so I did the pick 3 today- for only 9.75$ it's perfect. I got the beef crunchy taco, chicken tamale and chicken enchilada with rice. You can choose rice or beans for the side. There is nothing fancy about the meal- but it's the simplicity for me. The beef is actually ground beef- so just a good ol crunchy taco shell with ground beef, lettuce and cheese. The tamale and enchilada had the same red sauce on each and smothered in cheese, again, nothing fancy - but still tasty! My son also got the pick 3- he did a beef taco, chicken burrito and tamale - both burrito and tamale covered in the same red sauce and cheese- but no complaints- he cleared his plate! They do have a choice of dessert also, so we got the cheese cake that comes with a couple cherries, drizzled in chocolate and whip cream. Nice ending to a good lunch. We found this place through yelp and it did not disappoint! We had a delicious quesadilla, with chorizo and other fillings, taquitos, fresh guacamole, horchata (a non alcoholic cinnamon rice milk drink), and a coconut margarita. The coconut margarita was soooo good! If we lived locally, we'd be regulars. Really tasty food, good service. They seated people decently far apart due to covid. When we came it looked closed because the overhead sign light was out, but it still had a flashing open sign on. Definitely recommend! read more

Was in the area for work and on my way home, was dying for some Mexican. Came here cause it was close and I'm really glad I did. I ordered one of the lunch specials and it hit the spot. Good portions and VERY affordable. Salsa was great and the extra dip they included was a surprising and nice touch. The restaurant had good reviews and I love me some Mexican Food. Waitor was very attentive, food came to the table fast, but that was about the end of the good. I had 2 pulled chicken tacos and a chille rellano. The pulled chicken tacos were literally just chicken and lettuce. The pulled chicken tasted like it was just boiled. No seasoning or flavor at all. The chile rellano had no cheese and was small. Beans and rice were flavorless. All in all, a general lack of flavor. I will give it a second chance, but not sure how soon. read more

Great place for authentic Mexican food. Service is top notch. Chips and salsa are fresh and not can tasting. The white sauce has enough of a bite that it doesn't taste like just an after thought of miracle whip like a lot of other places. Prices are reasonable, the staff are attentive and friendly. The margaritas are great. You can actually tell it has tequila in it!! I have ordered all different kinds of food off the menu and have not been disappointed. Probably my favorites are the chimichangas (beef, fried) or the California burrito. But you better be hungry when you order the burrito. We escaped Hurricane Matthew, moving from Kill Devil Hills to Suffolk where we had to settle for only 10" of rain. Fortunately the hotel parking lot was well drained and the worst we had was leaves plastered to our car. We spent three nights in exile and for the first, decided we wanted pizza. The place we chose in the center of Suffolk was at least ankle deep in water when we called so we just walked to Santa Fe Grill for some gringo Mexican. Andrew and I coordinated out orders; one Chile Verde Pork and one Chile Colorado Beef. These were both surprisingly good and we were happy to be so lucky in a strip mall place. They were not busy on this stormy night and we received very attentive service. The pork was nicely cooked, tender but not dried out. It needed a little salt. It was served in a tart tomatillo sauce that had some relatively uncooked onion. It was worth ordering. Since you have a choice of meats with the Chile Verde, you know they are not cooking the pork in the sauce. That would make it much better, but would be less flexible. If it were my choice I would cook the pork in the green sauce and the beef in the red sauce and stop offering all things to all people. The Chile Colorado was in a slightly tangy red sauce with some tomato and red chile. The carne had been grilled in strips like you might find in tacos de carne asada and then served in the sauce. See my comments above about cooking the meat in the sauce. Santa Fe has a large menu but had nothing in common with the food we actually get in Santa Fe. I suppose Santa Fe does not have to be the one in New Mexico. Ms T rated her taco salad as just fine, standard. Their salsa is decent, a pureed sauce with plenty of garlic. They also serve a sweet and tangy white sauce with the chips. Based on reading a few reviews, apparently the locals like this stuff. It is weird, like salad dressing. Although it is not yellow, it reminded me of poppy seed dressing. None of us liked it. (later we had it at Los Bandidos in Colonial Heights. Must be a VA thing,Yuck) The next day we kind of slept in and went for a late breakfast again at Santa Fe. I enjoyed good Huevos con Chorizo. Ms T had Pollo with Rice and Cheese sauce which was exactly what she likes. Andrew had Chilaquiles with Chicken which were surprisingly good, even if the chilaquiles themselves were a little overcooked. Santa Fe was a decent find. It is not profound Mexican food, but I rate it a solid three stars based on this pretty good sampling. Anytime I can get acceptable chilaquiles, eggs and chorizo, chile verde and chile Colorado, I am happy. read more

Nice quaint Mexican Food restaurant. Clean bathroom with hot water (very important). One of the things I love about this restaurant was their authenticity! The Mrs and I shared a double fajita platter and to my surprise, it was more than enough. Our food came out quickly , they reloaded our chips (which were warm) and drinks until our meals arrive. (Without is asking). The service was awesome, and the food was outstanding. This is definitely a return establishment. I will be back! The quesadilla margarita was AMAXING. It was so juicy and wet when I ordered it it was almost falling apart. The steak and other meats were perfect, the cheese was salty and savory, and the vegetables added crunch. The food is fairly authentic. I like their refried beans and carnitas. Those two things are my usual test of how good the Mexican restaurant is. The only thing with the carnitas is they don't serve enough fixin's with them. I asked for some chopped onion and a couple avocado slices and I received a small bowl of onions and a whole half of an avocado. Not exactly what I wanted but - ok. At the restaurant, Uruapan, in Tijuana they also serve cilantro, lemon and sliced radishes with their carnitas. I like all of that on the carnitas tacos that I make. They are soooo delicious. Also, I recently ordered a burrito and was surprised when it came out of the kitchen. It looked like an enchilada. It was small like an enchilada and the ends were open and not folded in like a burrito. It was the strangest burrito I have ever seen. I even asked the server if it was their burrito and he said yes. Of course, he might have just said that because I'm an American and he thought I wouldn't know the difference. Lol. That's what would happen in Tijuana. But regardless of how it looked it tasted good and that's the important thing. The servers are very pleasant, attentive and fast. However, I'm giving them 4 Stars because of the Nortena music they ALWAYS play. I really don't like Nortena music. I think all the songs sound the same. Once I even asked for some corridos but they didn't play any. I'm thinking the owner must be from Sonora or at least some place in the North where that music comes from. If he is from Sonora I wish he would put some food from that state on their menu; especially las coyotas. read more

Each time thinking that it is hard to mess up Mexican food. You can get a better steak taco at Taco Bell. The Carne Asada was tough and completely unseasoned. It tasted more boiled than grilled s The Chili rellenos was the smallest, saddest,most bland chili I have ever been served. I never thought I would say that.
