Every time we go on vacation, we have to find a zoo. The Emerald Coast zoo did not disappoint. You…read morecan tell the animals are well cared for and the zoo grounds are extremely clean and well kept. This does not seem to be the norm with many small family run zoos in the US There is a large variety of animals some of which we've never seen in enlarged shoes and this is one of the few zoos we've been to where the animals are active and almost interact with visitors. While we were there, the lions that are penned together or playful and seemed interested in the humans on the other side of the fence. We fed the giraffes which include a young one who is very adorable. We also had a nice interaction with one of the zoo staff who was cleaning out the porcupine pen. She was very informative and was willing to answer questions about the porcupines and gave us some information about other animals that we would encounter in the zoo. Overall, it was a good experience and we would highly recommend the zoo to people who enjoy learning about animals or just want something different to do. On a fun note we appreciated that the signage told us the names of some of the animals like two emus named Karen and water buffaloes named fast and slow, if you're a fan of Veggietales, you'll get that last reference.

The giraffe feeding was fun and they have a great small display of all sorts of animals. If you want a quick 2 hours zoo and have some kind people to talk to where your time is yours alone. This place is perfect and local.

Reed is wonderful to be around and he has taught me so much. The adoption process was so wonderful, everything I've wanted. All my needs were met. Reed makes sure all these birds go to great homes. As for the parrots, they are provided with daily enrichment, a great diet, other birds to interact with and places to hide . Misters in the heat and heat lamps in the cold. Nothing better than Uncle Sandy's!!!!!!!!!

This place is a real hit if you love birds. It's a small, privately owned, bird sanctuary and I'm…read morereally glad we found it. The people that run it and care for the birds are first class fun. They give you a little cut of food of peanuts, cooked pasta and bread to feed the birds. You're given a very brief class on how not to get bitten when feeding them. These types of birds can inflict a nasty bite. It only costs ten dollars a person to walk through and it has to be cash. I donated another twenty bucks as well. The bird enclosures are spacious and the birds appear well fed and healthy. I really enjoyed the Emus, budgies and the funny chicken. There are even peacocks running around. One let me feed it peanuts and was very friendly. This place does a great service for surrendered birds nobody wants or knows how to take care of. Visiting funds continued care for these animals and I fully support the mission. It really is a fun experience.

The weather was perfect and doing happy hour drinking with awesome appetizers, hearing the sounds of the zoo animals, and watching monkeys play was a very pleasant experience. An absolutely PERFECT sized zoo, especially for three kiddos under four (i.e. very short attention…read morespans)! We went on a Tuesday during spring break, and there was plenty of parking and no line for tickets. The tickets and add-ons (carousel, turtle and giraffe feedings, sloth encounter) were very reasonably priced. My oldest (3) rode the carousel multiple times; it was her favorite part of our visit. We also participated in the giraffe feeding, which lacked some organization, but otherwise was a cool experience. There are two playgrounds, one on each end of the zoo. Unlike any other zoo I've ever visited, you could get incredibly close to the animals, especially the lions. The green python put on a captivating show while we all watched, mouths agape. We witnessed a heron (?) savagely attacking a giant frog (see my pictures and video) in the lemur island area. The on-site restaurant, Safari & Vine, is FABULOUS. The menu has a broad array of global options for any palate. My husband and I were both talked into the SHARK burger (sustainably fished and blended with pork), which I wouldn't order again, but had to try once (it was lean like a turkey burger). Can't say enough good things!
