I've been fortunate enough to play many of the great private and public golf courses in California,…read moreand these two--Dunes and Shore--are my favorites of all the courses I've played. (Rustic Canyon is runner up, but it's not that close). They are stunning in every way and then some other ways, too. Wow. Just wow. It's hard to believe there are people who get to play these courses whenever they want to. Again, wow.

Situated along the Monterey Peninsula I completed my work around the famed 17 mile drive with the…read moremost private of courses. How private? 1100 members and you can only play if you are a member (must be invited) or invited as a guest. Now I have played MPCC , Spyglass, Pebble (twice) , Cypress and Poppy. If you are fortunate to play this course, the Dunes is actually the more prestigious over the Ocean/Shore course. Most members walk with a push cart. Although I am used to carrying my own bag, I am glad I used a push cart. Our round started at 11am and ended at almost 3pm on the dot. The course has likely the most undulating greens I have ever played, so bring your short game and be prepared for 3 putts. As a middle handicapper I highly recommend playing the blue tees. The white tees were probably a little too close for me. I played true to my 17 handicap bogeying every hole except the 18 handicap signature 14th hole. The amenities were all there. Tees, ball markers, balls, score cards, water, towels, etc. They even had golf carts available on the 11th hole in case you were running late or got tired and wanted to ride the rest of the way. If you are knit-picking the only bad part is a restaurant that isn't available til the 12th hole or someone driving around with a food cart. Some points of note. There is no signage telling you what hole you are on so it is good to be playing with a member. Covid protocols are in place so it is wise to bring ID and vaccination. No shorts or jeans are allowed. Pants and collared shirts are required and the shirts must be tucked in. Women must also wear gear that goes to the calf. My friend's wife was wearing expensive designer jeans and even she knew to go inside and buy a whole new wardrobe for the day. The course was well manicured and one of the most naturally beautiful courses I have ever played. All the staff were exceptional, friendly, and attentive.

Pebble Beach company assisted, the United States Golf Association, with the production. Fabulous food, hospitality, transportation, venue services, plus was provided. Mother nature provided excellent weather: cloudy cool mornings, arid sunny warm 70s afternoons, fog came in later 7pm: almost full moon gave us a little moonlight. Wonderful weather overall was enjoyed, by almost all. Ultimately, team USA Amateurs barely beat the United Kingdom British/ Ireland men. Classy, well mannered spectators were a joy to be around.Tiered ticket pricing started around $450, so I personally worked the special event. Cheers!!!

Condition of the course was like nothing you see at your usual private club. I realize I was lucky to play here. if you ever get an invite, make sure you take it. We were lucky enough to get great weather, not a guarantee, because it is exposed. if you are invited by a member buy some stuff in the shop, because it's not somewhere you can walk in and buy a shirt.

We're still in the middle of our stay at Carmel Valley Ranch, but it has already been so wonderful that I wanted to write this review before I even get home; just so I don't forget all the special details. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly cared for. Edward was so sweet at check-in and helped secure lovely rooms for our group. He continues to greet us kindly each time we see him in the lodge. Saša remembered us from previous visits and made my son's birthday extra special by bringing out French fries (his absolute favorite)! We also had a service issue within our group, and Jeff handled it with such genuine passion and professionalism. He went above and beyond to make things right, and then surprised my kids with their own little Stanley cups engraved with their initials. Truly above and beyond. The food and beverage team has been just as amazing. Molly's new dessert menu is fantastic; don't miss the goat cheesecake! Carly is always a gem; her warmth and kindness brighten our days, and my kids absolutely adore her. Mia is so welcoming at the host stand at Valley Kitchen, always greeting us with such friendliness. At dinner, Ismael was a wonderful server. I forgot to mention needing separate checks at the start of the meal, but he was so gracious and kind about handling it at the end. Our favorite breakfast server is José. He was is so so so kind. One member of our group has been feeling under the weather this weekend. He had the chef make her some chicken broth. And he didn't even charge a penny for us. When I offered gratuity; he declined! We adore José. We look forward to seeing him every time we return to CVR. A highlight of the trip was meeting Fernanda at the Market. We had a fun conversation early in the morning about whether eggnog and matcha might go together. Hours later, she tracked me down to tell me she had experimented, tried it, and that it was delicious--then proceeded to make me a matcha eggnog latte. And she was right. It was amazing! Her thoughtfulness absolutely made my day. We also had the pleasure of meeting Urich, the GM--including a personal hello from him, which says a lot about the hospitality here. He was warm, approachable, and clearly cares deeply about the guest experience. The property itself is gorgeous with so much to enjoy, but what keeps us coming back again and again is the incredible people who make every stay feel special. Their kindness, sincerity, and attention to detail turn a beautiful resort into a place that feels like home. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

My husband booked this place for the family with good intentions but missed a few details that I'd…read morelike to share in the hopes someone else may be reading reviews for this place. Location: beautiful breathtaking views tucked away in a mountain valley, it is a perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle from city noise pollution and high populations. Customer service: there are only 1-2 check in desks, where they spend about 10-20 minutes with each customer explaining the property amenities, location of room, events, etc. when you've been traveling all day, every minute feels like a lifetime. Restaurant: there is only one full service, sit in restaurant that gets booked very fast especially for dinner. Plan ahead and make a reservation in advance for every night you plan to stay on campus and eat there, otherwise, expect to wait until 8 pm or drive to the nearby restaurants which include a Subway, pizza joint, or a small Vietnamese restaurant. Earthbound Organic Farm is a great alternative option for a small breakfast or lunch bites. There is another Mexican restaurant nearby. Clientele in the mornings consist of rowdy children and their inconsiderate parents. I recommend asking to be seated outside if you have well mannered children and want to eat in peace. Rooms: mediocre clean. For being a Hyatt affiliated hotel, I had higher expectations, rooms are carpeted with wooden floors and heavy rugs. This resort is pet friendly so if you have someone in the family that suffers from allergies or has a very sensitive nose, this is not the best place to stay. As most Californian hotels that have carpeting, you can smell odors in the carpeting and linen. When things got hot and humid in our room, I got a nice whiff of dog. Basically any pet friendly hotel means that your linens will be washed with dog poo or other animal fluids. Rooms are only dusted at eye level but if you're someone that is concerned about dust mites, be prepared to get a showering of dust mites on bed, where the headboards reach 6' high and hold lots of lovely layers of dust. Coffee pot is sad and comparable to a motel 6 version with blah coffee, and lastly the beds are super firm with no ability to adjust (like other Hyatt holidays offer), and pillows are huge and uncomfortable. Foam alternative is slightly softer but still too high for a back sleeper or stomach sleeper. Bathroom: limited. They do provide tiny handwashing bars of soap made of lavender, and provide a tiny sample sac of lavender salt to use in tub but for those with allergies, best to request an alternative if any. Shower corners contain black mold. Refrigerators: our room had a tiny refrigerator that could hardly fit anything and doesn't cool sufficiently so for those moms packing extra healthy snacks for your kids, consider your fridge useless. All the strawberries, yogurts and hummus we purchased made it straight to the trash. Room patio: dirty and useless. There was a couple of upholstered seats and one table on our patio that could not be enjoyed as they were filled with dirt, dust and leaves. Would I stay here again? No - due to the pet issue for me. Most Californians love their pets and don't mind staying in places that wreak of dog butts that they've habituated to. Like I said, my husband had good intentions but there were too many issues that made it undesirable for me.

It's the kind of place where every corner looks like it belongs in a wedding album. . One of the unique perks for couples is the chance for the groom and his groomsmen to enjoy a morning round of golf before the festivities begin -- a tradition many wedding parties absolutely love. And depending on the day, you might even catch the sound of sports cars racing around the neighboring Laguna Seca track, adding a fun bit of local character to the atmosphere. . The weather is typically mild, but as with most coastal spots, the fog can roll in and bring cooler temperatures, especially later in the afternoon. It only adds to the romantic vibe, but it's worth keeping a light layer handy. . The bridal suite is truly impressive -- spacious, comfortable, and perfectly designed for a full hair-and-makeup setup. There's plenty of room for the bridal party to relax, get ready, and enjoy the morning without feeling crowded or rushed. . What really elevates this venue, though, is the staff. They create an incredibly professional and welcoming environment, handling every detail with ease and making the entire experience feel top-notch from start to finish. . A beautiful location, thoughtful amenities, and outstanding service -- this clubhouse is a standout choice for couples dreaming of a refined, scenic Monterey wedding.

I think it's a private thing for the folks at Pasadena or members of the club. Anyway, got invited, saw some old friends and got caught up. Dinner was braised short ribs, buttermilk whipped potatoes, butter leaf salad, roasted root vegetables and citrus polenta cake with berries. Delicious. Service was excellent and the whole place was clean. Nice. The bar is well stocked and the wine list was decent but the beer choices just plain suck. No choice but to subtract a star...just joking. Haaa! Last words...nice restroom.

The receptionist was nice during check in. They give free s'mores kits. There are campfires around the property. I had a relaxing night! Room: I had a room with two queens. It was very spacious! There was a separate shower and bathtub in the bathroom. There were black out curtains on the windows. I didn't realize there was a window on the ceiling until the sun shown down in the morning. Then I also noticed there were blinds to block out the sun on that too! The bed was so comfy. The blanket was so warm and seemed like down feather. They gave us two complimentary glass bottles of Martinelli's apple cider. Amenities: -Fitness center. I was here at night, so it was very dark. I only saw one small room with cardio equipment. No weights. -Spa. There was no water dispenser and no hair dryer. In the women's locker room, there were lockers, one shower, new bathrobes, one pair of slippers (that we saw), and fresh towels. The steam room was small but could fit at 4-5 people. -Pool. The pool is heated. I wish they had a jacuzzi! -Golf. I think they had a 9-hole course on the property, but I did not partake in this. -Golf shop/Golf club. This is a 10 minute walk from the lodge. You can rent and purchase equipment here. -Tennis/pickleball. Equipment is free to borrow. No shade for the pickleball court. One tennis court is covered in shade by itself. Not sure about lighting. No wind guards. -Restaurants. See website for hours. When I checked out around 11-12PM, the restaurant was closed.

They charge $25 per person, unlimited balls. A little pricey compared to the other driving ranges around but worth the try since we were in the area. There's a limit to how far you can hit your ball (180 yards) because it's not a big enough space and there are houses nearby. The pro shop looked well stocked with golf clothes, footwear, accessories. I'm sure there were golf clubs (I didn't really look, but I'm pretty sure I saw some bags). Lastly, they have strict dress code- both at the course and at the range- no denim, no t-shirt's, no sweats. Didn't know this prior to coming here.
