Price is great, people are super nice. Paid $35 for a private room for 2. Linens were clean. There is a whole kitchen of free food. Free coffee and tea. It is a chore hostel, so expect to help out before getting started on your day. I definitely recommend staying here in Santa Fe!

So cute, nice staff, good price. I was traveling with a friend and we spent $45 for a room of our own (sleeps 4) and a private bathroom. The hostel is partnered with a nearby Whole Foods so the kitchen was stocked full of wonderful ingredients for cooking (literally anything you would need to cook with) and there was a beautiful courtyard to eat meals in. The hostel had a nice community feel. The only downside was that our shower smelled like pee.

You have to work for your room here. Not really. You do have to do chores if you stay more than one night. If you stay one night you have to sweep and mop your own room. Basically they want it looking the way it was before you got there. No big deal. They also have free food. They get donations from some of the local grocery stores. Most of it is day old or a few days old so be careful. I didn't end up partaking in this part. A comfy place to sleep. $25 plus a $10 deposit which you will get back, will get you your own private room with a shared bathroom.

The hostel functions as a non-profit / nerve center for creative hi-jinks. The accommodations are dated, but rich in nostalgia. They offer dorm or private lodging, but in each case there is a $10 key deposit. I believe they are a cash only business. They do ask that all guests perform a simple housekeeping task (clean part of the kitchen, take out the trash, sweep+mop the lounge, etc) - as such, there is a task signup sheet. Every Sunday the owner picks up expired/throw-away food from the local Whole Foods and provides it free to hostel staff and visitors. There is a large refrigerator and freezer setup for guest to utilize along with storage lockers in the kitchen. Coffee and other small baked goods are provided in the lounge. Wifi is available for $2 per day. Located on a busy street are a variety of stores/food options within walking distance and the downtown plaza area is only about 2 miles away. Would definitely return.

Super creepy, very dirty. No deadbolt, or slide lock device on the door, just a push and turn lock on the door knob. It is a combo junk yard and hostel. They will not even show you your room before you pay for it.I've stayed at many hostels , that I would return to, not this place. Also it's right on a highway so it's very noisy . Yes they have a lot of free food, yet if you don't feel safe it's not worth it.

If you want to be stolen from and harassed in the middle of your wedding this is the place to be!…read moreExtremely disrespectful how the bar manager handled some things. In the middle of our wedding, he told my coordinator that if we did not move our Photo Booth that he was going to have to get his Volkswagen van out of the venue which to do so that would involve us having to move tables, chairs, decorations and my guests out of his way. He was being very rude about it because we set up our Photo Booth in front of his van and then he said we owed him $100 to use his van as a prop, because we told him there no way we could move his van without disturbing my entire wedding. We were never once told this and if this was an issue, he should've moved the van out of the venue prior to our wedding being set up and STARTED! It was very rude. And then well in the middle of my wedding, my guess were being told they needed to move their cars. My aunt and uncle are very disabled and they were told they had to go park down the road at big five because they were parked in someone's parking spot, but it clearly was a disabled parking. Right before me and my husbands first dance I was told that I needed to move my vehicle, apparently it was parked in "the owners spot" I have been parked there since the night before and hadn't been told anything. There was NO SIGN that said owners parking.. and to wait till literally the MIDDLE OF MY WEDDING to ask me to move it is crazy. All of this could have been told to me prior to the wedding, it didn't even start till 3pm in the afternoon. At any point prior, I could've been told to move my vehicle, but I am a guest at the hotel so I don't know what the problem is. And Tob could've moved his van anytime he wished, but he waited. The next morning @8am my husband and family woke up to clean venue and pack up decor. We then realized $400 of my decor was stolen. This has left me distraught. I have repeatedly ask to see there cameras, and no one will respond to me. I let them know that if my property could not be recovered will have to file a police report with Santa Fe police for my property being stolen. In response they were extremely passive aggressive and said I was "bold" for accusing them of taking my property and that they would be "thrilled" to help me find it if it was in there property. I'm attached photos of my stuff stolen. When we arrived then morning all the pampas grass was taken from my arches and vases with pampas in it. I sent hours putting this together and about $400 on this decor and for this to be take on a day that is supposed to be so special is just disgusting and unprofessional. Not to mention they catered the food it was gross and the beds are hard as a rock. I'm also not saying the venue itself stole my decor but the staff themselves.. just seeing how Todd the bar manager behaved shows me the establishment does not mind disrespecting people. The place is gorgeous, but not worth this headache. The pictures are of the property I haven't been able to recover. (ALL OF MY PAMPAS GRASS) and emails.

I love staying at hostels because you meet the most interesting people and get that comfy home vibe…read morethat you can't get by staying at a manufacture hotel chain. While staying here at the hostel I meet my "twin", this girl who I was sharing a bunk bed with had the same name as me and also the same birthday! We were born 5 years apart and in different countries but with a different last name! Crazy! I love it!! My trip out west took me to ABQ and while searching for hostels this came up and decided to book with them during the balloon fiesta week. Located on historic route 66 this hostel sits between downtown and old town making it a great location close to everything. The famous Dog House restaurant is within walking distance of the hostel and a bus line runs by it as well if you are without a car. They do have parking but it's first come first serve, it is located behind the hostel. Enter through the ally and you will pass the first 2 apartments and then the hostel parking will be visible, only like 6 cars are able to fit but street parking is also available. Upon arrival the staff checked me in and even though they were super busy with visitors trying to book over the phone due to balloon fiesta the staff still welcomed me with friendliness and a big smile. I stayed a total of 2 nights, one night on my way to Arizona and another night on my drive back home to Texas. Both of these times I received nothing but outstanding customer service from all the staff here at mother road. To all the staff, Cheryl and Angel especially, you guys have been beyond amazing and may yall be blessed with many more years of health so that yall can continue to greet visitors with a loving smile. The staff is truly an example of what outstanding hospitality is all about, they went above and beyond anything I was expecting. I felt safe the whole time there, the girls in my room were chill and the people I meet while having breakfast there one morning invited me to ride with them to balloon fiesta! Always kind and friendly folks everywhere doing random acts of kindness! Love it! The building itself is really old but full of character. I overheard one of the staff talking to a guest and mentioned that at one point the hostel was a brothel! (dont quote me on it because I did not ask I just overheard). They have a lot of rooms and small nooks that it is really fascinating to see how they have adopted the house to meet the current needs of its habitants. You cannot take a single step inside without making the floor creek and eek with every step. They only allow smoking outside and they have continental breakfast available (there is a farmers market across the street from them so they get eggs from them every morning!). There are plenty of bathrooms available so if the one in your room is occupied just walk down the hallway and you will find one available. They have space heaters but if you are cold they do have extra blankets free of charge. The bunk beds are all different and I prefer bottom bunk because a big curvy girl like me does not feel safe on the top bunk. Bunk beds are first come first serve so get here early for your preference on bunk beds. Overall I really loved my stay here at mother road hostel and I can't wait to go back and stay with them again due to how much I enjoyed my stay with them.

My second favorite thing is meeting the other staff, residents, and travelers. The Mother Rode Hostel was a terrific location right in between Downtown Albuquerque and Old Town. We were so happy with our private room and it's private entrance, second bedroom, cute little bath and awesome kitchenette. We totally lucked out!! The staff were super friendly as well and we even spoke with the owner (who doubles as a real estate agent) at looking at property in this area. We are in the market for a vacation home or two and really fell in love with this part of New Mexico! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. Be sure to check out the Farmer's Market across the street.

Louie was easy to work with and glad that you came in town to visit. The setup Luxx has for parking is worth it. Tricky at first: you have to enter through the exit lane and then go out the pedestrian gate at the left. You'll see. Beds are comfortable. We loved the lavender infused essential oil soaps. Inside your room the decor reflects the brown and tan colors of the desert. The all-natural animal print was almost a bit too African (ever see a zebra in the New Mexican desert?) But hey, it works. The back patio is a great option for a gas fire and hot tub. The main common room has fantastic sky lighting and relaxing music. But you need to stay here for the location. We walked everywhere. I was staying in this room alone, so I was a bit freaked out. When he (obviously) failed to enter my room, he went around the back and tried to enter through the window!!! My room was on the first floor, facing the backyard sitting area (where there are seats, fountains, a tub). The guest was probably drunk and forgot which room was his, but it was still scary to have him try to enter my room twice. I don't necessarily blame Luxx for this issue, but when I raised this at check-out the next day, the man at the counter laughed and said something along the lines that he'd have better luck next time. Wtf -- Even if we weren't in this period of #metoo and #imwithher, I never want the hotel employee to joke about my room being broken into. Another thing is that I booked the Luxx through Booking.com and was sent a reservation confirmation with the final price. When I checked my credit card, there was a discrepancy. It wasn't much, but still odd that they charged me more than they said they would. I tried calling, I left a couple of voicemails -- no response. Bottom-line: Find somewhere else to stay.

We turned out to be closer during my stay and my respect for her stayed good. They noted that I was luck I didn't break anything but I fell into it trap door style and I scratched and brusied myself hard. Muna noted that her sons were idots to leave a dangerous spot like this around when there were children also staying there, As she spoke to me in a patronizing was that she often speaks to most people if not petting their egos. I remember Muna the owner telling me before I could ever think of suing, thank you for not suing us. I remember how I fell and Muna also a body worker did minimal body work like massage or acupuncture to help me heal. I was paying a discounted price for my room but I never got any lower prices because they seemed defensive when I brought up paying lower due to the fall, Anu said " I didn't know you felt so angry" They clearly don't have much expertise customer service. Muna can be unessisarly nasty to people at times, and you much guard yourself from her random anger and not take it to personally. During my stay as if I was not a flexible enough candidate, I was asked to move my room around in case someone else wanted to rent it! They were asking me to rent a cabin a very small room shortly after my fall! for the same price! My struggles there with Muna and Anu not having good relations with most of the staff or with me, I had a difficulty finishing and focusing my energy on Native Roots because I didn't feel supported by them or safe there. There were some nice things, like sweat lodges and drug circles and connections with people, maybe the moral was that I needed to develop the connection with myself instead of putting myself through so much suffering...
