One of the few locations with an official Sanrio store. I grew up with Sanrio in the 90s and glad to see that the trend is back better than ever and I'm able to share it with my niece. She was super excited! Let me tell you, it is expensive! They don't have much more items than other third party retailers but they have options and more characters. But not quality items for less familiar characters. At least it's authentic. I wanted a guarantee that I'm getting what I needed which I did. Majority of the items were bags, totes, and plushies. Cheaper items still pricey were stationary or bag charms. I miss the items from the 90s. We got a bag charm and a pin for purchasing over a certain amount. All sales are final. read more

I visited yesterday and many people left right when I was walking in and I was the only person in the store. There were two employees and neither one of them greeted me. I finally greeted them and asked how they were doing which was met with a lackluster response. I remember Sanrio stores were at a lot of mall but now it's harder to find them. My kid is very into keroppe lately, so we stopped by to check this out. The place is in between chase and target, very tiny store and they also limit numbers of customers inside. The store is clean and organized by characters. It's not too hard to find stuffs, but prices are very high. One little keychain is like 25 dollars and a pen is like 10 bucks. Will easily go broke here if you like all their characters. I was looking at the price tags that we got, I think they upcharge 10-12 dollars more than what you could get in Japan or Asia, which is a lot! read more

A bit overpriced, but I understand.. Sanrio merch that doesn't look funky is very hard to find, but here all the things to choose from are very cool and actually worth the price!! I have bought a few things from here, one being a blanket, one being a hoodie, and one being a mirror. the mirror has been through so many things in my bags, not one single crack, scratch, or marks. i love it so much. the hoodie is very soft and i've had it for 2 years now, not one tear or mess up on it. it's also so cute! and the blanket, so soft, my dogs love it, yet.. doesn't look dirty, still soft, and perfectly sized!! all so worth it. the workers are very nice and don't try to bribe you with anything. the provide kindness and empathy, and they are really really helpful! I also love the fact that you do a bunch of cute things for each month like "character of the month" they are so cute and I have like 3 magnets and pins right now! read more

It's very small and way OVERPRICED, like a trip to Disneyland. There are a lot of really cute plushies and then a small selection of random stuff- school supplies, phone cases, aprons, and a few water bottles. I see from other pics very cute seasonal-themed dolls. But a $36.50 bomber jacket character isn't cute! Luckily the employees were ok with me being camera happy. One extra star for the welcoming, friendly employees. This was my first and last visit. WOW!!!! My quick visit to Sanrio Irvine turned into an amazing unforgettable experience. As I walk into the store, i'm greeted by a ray of sunshine whose name I can't recall (younger man, maybe Jacob?) Who was always nearby to answer my questions about your huge variety of adorable plushies and other knick knacks. On top of all of this, the ambience in the store was so perfect! All of the plushies were arranged in such adorable ways, and I saw other workers chatting happily while putting up merchandise with such care :) I would go back for the workers alone, (especially that young man!!) but I ended up buying an adorable kuromi stationary set and taking my leave. My daughter needed to purchase a secret Santa gift and the person she is gifting liked Sanrio. So I thought where else can I get Sanrio products than at the actual store. Since the secret Santa budget was at $20, i thought we could grab a few small items like pens, erasers, notebook, etc. However, once we entered the tiny store, the first item we looked at was a small 5" plush and it was about $35!! At that moment, my heart sank and didn't think we would buy anything gift worthy for $20. We continued to look around and found the cheapest item was an eraser for $3.50. Pens were about $6.50 and a small notebook was about $7 - $12. Getting those three items would reach our budget and they were such small gifts. My daughter was greatly disappointed. Just then, my husband who was waiting outside, texted me that at Miniso a few stores down, Sanrio character items were sold, so we left. We ended up purchasing Sanrio items at Miniso that were a lot more affordable. I understand that the items in Sanrio are imported from Japan, but I also noticed that most items were Made in China. I hope this store will carry more low priced items in the future ($1 ~ $3 items). read more

I love Sanrio & for some reason despite the popularity, there aren't many stores! Ive been to Japan & visited the Sanrio stores there. When I saw there's a location near UCI I was a bit surprised but I had to visit. Well the store is really really small. Super limited selection & like one of the previous reviews, it's mostly hello kitty merchandise. Also another annoying thing is that a lot of the items don't have prices, there is a yen price & some that do have a store price sticker, it's really high compared to the yen price. I really am hating my purchase - I ended up buying a blanket that should of been around $15 (¥1800) but ended up costing $29. I ended up paying $29 for a child's blanket. What's even more lame ? All sales are final. I also didn't enjoy being watched the entire time, not sure if that is store policy or the employee is just bored. There also was a sign that said no pictures & no touching which was by the clearance in the back. So not sure if those items are for sale since it seemed to be blocked off so you couldn't even look at the items. I won't be visiting this store again, way too expensive & limited selection. There was a little bit, ie Little Twin Stars, but from what I remember seeing, there was a good amount of Gudetama, Purin, and Kuromi. Finally I got to relive my childhood memories at this Sanrio store in Irvine! Long gone are the ones from SF and Oakland. To make my visit worth it, especially since I live in the Bay Area, I spent the maximum amount of time in here before they closed at 7:00 pm. The store clerks were friendly; they even offered masks to those who entered without a mask on. This store is 10x better than the store located in Japantown, LA. That one sells mostly clothing items, whereas this one sells more office supplies such as folders and stationary. Yes, this store is quite small, but it's jammed packed with cute items such as little plushies and other useless things. I hope to bring my sister in a few weeks when we visited LA again. read more

Smaller store, pretty cramped, stock boxes piled everywhere on the floor which seems like a hazard, they limit the amount of people inside with a "bouncer" at the front door. Not sure if it's a COVID protocol or just to prevent overcrowding. The customer service was meh from all which dulled our first time experience after a 2 hour drive to get here. Prices are a little extravagant, but you're paying for the nostalgia of it all. I don't know if we came on an off stock day but there's not a lot of character diversity to choose from. I decided to not compare and appreciate this place for what it was but a lot of items here looked like boring generic 3rd party Hello Kitty stuff you'd find At an unknown mall store. As another reviewer stated it's "really really small"and the selection IS greatly lacking. Besides the plush, the offerings were a meager disappointment. Great shop. Bought 4 Kuromi plushies for the Black Friday sale. The selection for some of the characters left much to be desired though (Badtz Maru and Pochaco being two examples). Also, staff were nice but they need to tone down on asking me if I found everything okay. They asked me about 4-5 times during the half an hour I was in there and it started to make me feel uncomfortable and rushed. I'll probably shop here again in the future but just some honest criticisms. read more

If you were born in the 70's, grow up in the 80's and had children let's say late 90's or even the early 2000's - this Sanrio store will be a complete disappointment. The merchandise available is "meh" and nothing to be excited about. I mean I still even have my only Sanrio Stamp cards for ever dollar spent back when the merchandise was in abundance and far better then what today's store offers. The staff was OK - no smiles or welcoming. Is it just Irvine store employees that act weird or OC as a whole? I'm from San Diego and reside in one of the most humble communities (Oceanside) buy frequent the south cities if the OC due to friends in the area and because I run trials out here. Great store, lovely area. They had a good range of selections depending on who you're looking for- if you want the main ones such as My Melody, Cinnamon Roll and Hello Kitty, it's a good place to shop. My favorite is PPP and sadly there wasn't many things of his there. HOWEVER, from all the Sanrio Stores I have visited in Cali, this was the only one to have a lot of the older harder to get collections. Such as the items from the Maid Collection. Including the acrylic stand and the PPP dessert shaped holder. They are also the only ones I saw that had a lot of the masks designs. Their staff is also very nice and the overall experience for the store was great. I would visit again next time I go to Cali, they seem like they would get a lot of the hidden gems. read more

They have various types of items from stationary to home items. The staff have said items are selling out quickly and they are continually getting new items in. So glad there is finally a new Sanrio Store in south Orange County. The ones we had (Costa Mesa and Mission Viejo) have been closed for years and it's nice to finally have one close by. The only one that has been open is all the way in Torrance and that's an hour away from where I live. There are a lot of cute items and the staff up stocks when shelves become empty. Has a lot of cute keychains, stationary, plushies, pencil cases, and home goods. My only criticism is that the store is really small (the biggest store I have been to before closing was Costa Mesa), and due to it's size there is a 20 person limit (post COVID). Luckily when I went this past Saturday the line wasn't long, so I only waited about 15 minutes to get in. read more

I always loved Sanrio as a kid in the 90s. I brought my son here to buy a little gift for his little female friend at school, they are 13 years old, that crush/puppy love, she likes frogs so I suggested to him Sanrio because they have Keroppi character. He purchased the gift with the money he saved from his chores. The store is very small, employees stand at every corner eyeing you to make you feel uncomfortable so you can "HURRY UP AND BUY" and LEAVE, it was so uncomfortable. The store does not have a variety of selection besides the new characters. They don't have the main characters from the 90s like Badtz Maru, Pekkle, Pochacco, Keroppi but mainly Hello Kitty items and OVERPRICED plush dolls. We browsed and was undecided because there was a very little selection for Keroppi items, and they do not carry a variety of stationary items, planners, bedroom items, clothing, acccesories like they used to have in the 90s. However, my son saw in the back a Keroppi Squishmellow $24.90, was hidden behind the boxes of inventory, we asked TINA to assist us and the dolls had very noticeable dust on it so I asked for one without dust. Then after that I realized the one she just gave me also has a line through the bottom eye of the doll so my son switched it out. I guess these arent popular as the reason to being behind the boxes of inventory. We then paid and were told all sales are final. However, the male did not mention no exchanges and put our receipt in the bag we did not bother to look at it because we only purchased 1 item and the charges seemed correct. 15 minutes after we left the store my son decided that he would like to gift his friend a different Squishmellow. So I called the store and spoke to TINA, I asked her if i can exchange the Squishmellow and that I just left the store 15 minutes ago and asked to exchange the Squishmellow for a different item and I will pay the difference, however TINA stated I can only switch it for "DIFFERENT SQUISHMELLOW AND NOT A DIFFERENT ITEM", I told her that its fine i'm on my way back to exchange, but when I arrived TINA claimed to have told me that I can only exchange it for the "Exact same" Squishmellow and that she did not tell me that I can exchange it for a "DIFFERENT" Squishmellow. (The Squishmellow I was going to exchange it for is the Hello Kitty Squishmellow $22.90, it was cuter). The Hello Kitty one is a little cheaper than the Keroppi, but that didn't matter it's $2 difference, we wouldn't not have asked for the $2 back, we would have allowed the store to keep it because we just want to exchange it for a different character, we just wanted to feel comfortable and happy with our purchase and what we are gifting. Sanrio's slogan is "LITTLE GIFTS, BIG SMILE", however, we did not have Big Smiles when we walked out the store because now we are stuck with a gift that my son is uncomfortable of gifting to his female friend, AND her SMILE may not be as BIG as we were expecting it to be. SHAME on Sanrio Gift Shop in Irvine for not allowing us to do a simple exchange when we only just the left the store 15 minutes after the purchase. GREEDY!!!!! If they are so worried about COVID, how about wrap all your items in the clear plastic gift wrapping like all the other Asian/Sanrio gift shops do throughout all of California, and you won't have to worry about germs or your customers purchasing plushies with dust all over them and take them home to their children and the children get sick from the dust collected on the plushy from Sanrio. This is disgusting!!!! This may be the only gift shop that I have seen that does not wrap their items in the clear plastic gift wrap, while leaving them plainly on the shelves and the plushies to collect dust, random people coming in to browse the store with their filthy hands and touching the plushies!!! EWWWWW!!!, which I have witnessed myself and TINA personally handed me the Squishmallow that had dust all over it. When I gift a sentimental gift to someone, I feel better knowing that I gifted someone a gift that I personally chose and it wasn't dirty, thrown all over the floor, kids hand and germs all over it and has already been played with and has that brand new fresh smell to it too!!!! He kept approaching us and standing way too close to us even though we told him we're fine and we just looking around. We kept trying to scoot away because he was standing so close but he like didn't get the hint or something, he was making us so nervous. We ended up leaving after he came up again and touched my lower back way too low. This is the sorriest excuse of a Sanrio store I've ever seen. I lived at the Sanrio store at South Coast Plaza in the 80s. This place does not even come close to the magic I felt there as a child. I took my six year old daughter and even she was underwhelmed. I was hoping for all of the cute character pencils, pencil boxes, candy, etc. Instead it was filled with $40 small plushies and overpriced sleep masks. The girls who worked there seemed irritated to be there but put on polite, disingenuous smiles. Miniso next door had a better Sanrio selection. Super disappointed and won't be back. My child purchased a defensive phone charm from this store on a school field trip and when she came when I came back over the weekend to exchange it because it was over $16 dollars (yes well over priced for a small price of plastic). This place is right across the street from Irvine college and I drove frome Los Angeles. I informed the cashier and the "head person that was there" because the owner was not in at the time and they said there was no business card or any contact information available to provide. They was not able to give me any information to contact uper management about this matter, i am a dissatisfied customer. I wish my child never went into this store. Please, if you decide to EVER go into this store please examine everything before purchasing it! Oh and the the cashier said she was going to review the cameras to look and see if the item was damaged when the cashier rang it up. Now, im wondering what kind of camera do they have where they can see the details of the phone charm to tell that it was damaged or not, that really didn't make any kind of sense to me AT ALL.... I sat there and looked really look so damn puzzled, I couldn't believe she said that. How can't the camera tell if the packaging was damaged or not. This must be a state of the art type of store or something. Then she asked me for my name and contact number and to take pictures of the phone charm to show the owner because she wasn't able to give me any of the store information (which I found so odd). She told me to come back when to owner is there, i told her it took me 58 minutes to get here and a 1/2 tank of gas and gas is not cheap and that was without that much traffic. She said go to a closer store. I informed to her that this is the store my child purchased it from and that's why we are here and that's why I took the effort to come out here and I need better assistance that what I ame receiving.
