I should give the Spa 2 stars because it is so beautiful but I just cannot. The spa itself is gorgeous. We used the steam room after the massage (and showers). Everything is clean and really beautiful. While you wait for your massage therapist in the waiting area, there is hummus and pita. Still and sparking water in the refrigerator and cakes. Also an assortment of teas. All delicious and very impressive. The dryers are horrible. They need more power and should be replaced. I have had massages for 30 years. You generally know if it will be good the minute the massage therapist puts their hands on you. I was excited but so disappointed ten minutes in. I requested a Swedish for an hour. Medium strength. I always wait to see how much pressure the masseuse uses and say lighter or more strength and they always respond immediately. Not today. As soon as she started on my shoulders and back I asked if she would use more pressure. I was told she was 'assessing' me while she applied such little pressure it felt like she was only rubbing oil on me. She literally laughed while she said after the assessment it will be much stronger. Then she added, "believe me". It wasn't. When she started the second side I asked her if she was still assessing. She said no. She added she does not do deep tissue massage. Did I ask the front desk when I made an appt for one. I said no. She said everyone has a different technique in massage. Hers is just horrible. I felt like leaving after she did one arm. She literally applied oil all over me and used such little pressure she could have been massaging a new born baby. $185 for the massage; $33.30 for the gratuity and $7.40 for the spa service charge. If only the massage therapist was as good as the spa was beautiful. I will not be returning. read more

The facilities at this spa are pretty nice. There are male and female locker rooms and there was also a separate quite lounge on the women's side (I'm assuming it's the same on the mens?). There's also a common lounge with a lovely view of the greenery outside. The common lounge also has snacks laid out although they weren't there early in the morning (before 10). Staff seems a bit lacking though. A large group had left the lounge when I got there and there were plates and towels/blankets and whatnot strewn about and no one had tidied up even when I left about 45 minutes later. I had the massage service and that was nice. The masseuse was nice and checked in a couple times to make sure I was ok with the pressure. On my way out they also gave me a little goody bag with some of their skincare samples. read more

Beautiful spa! Very relaxing and staff really nice. They have two 'relaxation rooms' before/after treatments, a whirlpool, and a steam room. Front desk area very attentive. Liked that you stayed in the same room for both facial and massage. Had the Aroma-Lymphatic Massage...this was a very relaxing & gentle massage. Then had a facial...ehhh. Was more of a massage for the face...no cleaning or extractions, even though the name of the facial is Nano Shisho Extract. Oatmeal scrub was still on my face once the facial was over; had to ask for a warm towel to clean off my face. My friend had the same facial and she came out with oatmeal scrub on her face as well. For a $130+ facial, why are you letting your clients leave with scrub on their face? At checkout, they include the tip automatically...22.5%. While it's great not having to figure out the math with the tip, I may not feel each technician deserves 22.5% (might want to give more or less). Can make checkout a bit awkward. Nice spa, good spot to go for a girls' spa afternoon....but stick with the massage. not the facial. read more

Truly loved my time spent at Sankara Spa. Environment was peaceful, relaxation room was dreamy and my massage therapist gave me the best massage that I have had in years. We were guests at the Castle Hotel and Spa and when we arrived at the Sankara Spa, they already knew that our breakfast had been delayed and they were ready to accommodate us. I was impressed at how closely the Hotel works with the Spa. I was asked to fill out a questioner and by the time I arrived on Joanne's table, she was well versed on the massage that I wanted. Joanne asked questions and actually listened so that I would leave rested and refreshed. First rate Spa. Thank you Sankara and Joanne! read more

I have a high standard and must say that my massage was excellent. My two girlfriends also agreed that theirs were amazing as well! Thann Sanctuary is a fitting name as it is located in a beautiful setting! The spa offers a clean, quiet facility (and tasty snacks). The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 STARS is because it can be a little difficult to get an appointment. I usually have to call multiple times before someone answers the phone (usually get voicemail) unless I get lucky. It's a bit presumptive that they automatically charge a generous tip but so far has been deserved. Will definitely come back and hope to stay in the Castle next time! read more

Been here now 4 times - going to go again in late January. Always a wonderful relaxing experience. Can stay the entire day in the jacuzzi and steamroom after your massage or facial treatment. No one is hurrying you out - it's great. They serve tea and sparkling water as well as lemon infused water. Check in is simple - prices are spa prices (saw a comment where someone didn't like the price) so you should check before booking (who doesn't?). What would really boost their business is if Castle Hotel & Spa (the hotel this spa is affiliated with and is on the grounds with) would upgrade their rooms. I stay at the lovely Tarrytown Estates and drive the 2 miles to the spa for the appointment. Can't say enough good things. Enjoy for yourselves - you'll love it. read more

I was a guest at the Castle Hotel and called for availability and book some services, including a VIP room as I needed some privacy after some medical treatments that I had recently. I was put on hold and the person who answered had no idea what I had told the first female receptionist, so before I could start over the second male receptionist interrupted me and said I would get a call back from the female. She never called and I was left waiting for a day whether I would get to go to the spa or not. Guess they are too busy for my money. read more

Parking - You do NOT have to valet park as I was told (sort of) by the valet guy. I don't believe he understood what I was asking when I arrived or departed; nice enough, but WRONG and not able to answer questions. By departure I was irritated by this and just asked him for my keys and he received no tip. Gratuity @ Spa - INCLUDED with the final charge, which I forgot about since I booked a month prior. After a 90-minute massage, who remembers anything?! In any case, the girl who checked me out should have reminded me when I asked for a gratuity envelope. I'm sure she was trained not to. While I would recommend Samantha, the massage therapist, I also recommend being clear headed when comes to the fine details. Again, I feel duped. I just feel everyone needs to be up front and honest about fees, tips, parking, etc. and not awkward, secretive or greedy. read more

I never write reviews, but was just treated so terribly by the employees at this spa I feel compelled to. I made a reservation for my husband to get a massage while I got a facial as part of our anniversary celebration. After my husband was brought into the room for his massage, I was told I could not get a facial or any other service because I was pregnant. I explained my dr said facials were totally fine, this was my second pregnancy and that I had gotten them through out my first without problems. The person said sorry, you could sit here why your husband gets his massage. Oh, water and samples were offered if I wanted. Meanwhile, a female employee looked on laughing with another while I sat there for an hour waiting for my husband to come out of his massage. Nothing further was said to me. Finally I insisted on talking to a manager who ultimately came down and told me they didn't service pregnant persons- no exception. I mentioned the rude female employee and he walked away without saying a word to her. nothing beyond some samples or water was offered. read more
