I had a wonderful experience at Eclipse today. This was my…read morefirst visit to the salon, since I just moved to the area in mid-April. Judy greeted me warmly, and Michael was so sweet and gave me a great wash. Mark cut my hair, and I have to say, l've never had quite this experience at a salon before. He was thoughtful and really took his time getting to know me and my style. I told him I wanted to work with my hair's natural texture and wanted something that felt feminine. Honestly, it was transformative - I walked in a little nervous, since you never know how things will go with a new stylist. Mark took his time throughout the cut, regularly stepping back to assess his progress and how it looked on me. I love the final result. He even styled it a few different ways afterward to show me the cut's versatility and how I could work with it at home. I'm thrilled with my haircut and highly recommend Eclipse Salon.

Except, I don't mix salad ingredients anymore to make those 'treatments'. Now, it boils down to using right ingredients and hair products to take care of my grey curly hair. And Aveda products have been my answer for the last 25 years to keep my Dominican naps in check. You know I was super hyped when I found Eclipse then called before coming here to find out if they carried my desperately-needed curly hair products. This Aveda Concept salon on N. Broadway in Tarrytown has the sit-down salon side of it with washing stations, nail stations, etc. The opposite side comes across as a separate business- but it's actually wall-to-wall stocked with almost every Aveda product out there. A little out of the way for me, but my tried-and-true hair salon that carries Aveda by me was limited on supply. So Eclipse it is for the win with pleasant staff.

Folks…read morelooking for an otherworldly escape - at least from an aesthetic point of view - will not find it here. There are no candlelit hallways or panpipe love songs being pumped in. The space is tasteful, the bathroom serves its purpose. To be sure, you come to Face to Face NYC not for the "spa experience" but for the men. In my case, Ray. Frankly, I'd much rather have Ray's masterful ministrations upon my flesh, and the aching muscles underneath, than some artifice constructed to "relax" me. Besides, if you aren't relaxed after a few minutes with Ray, there's little hope that anything else might help. Before a massage, I usually tell my masseur that I am quite ticklish. I explained this to Ray before we got down to business. And as he administered the most amazing massage I have ever had I was completely surprised to almost never get tickled. Unlike any massage before, mine at Face to Face NYC with Ray felt like it was really designed for me. It involved a great deal of stretching which felt amazing. And Ray is superbly intuitive and also has a keen understanding of anatomy. And he's wicked strong. Where other massage therapists feel like they're simply going through the motions, I felt like Ray was very present and had a genuine desire to leave me feeling better than he found me. I think Ray is actually gifted for this kind of bodywork. In a way that I, personally, have not experienced before. I had a massage elsewhere a week later and the entire time on the table I could only think of Ray. It is possible that he has ruined me for all others. Many thanks to Enrique, Face to Face NYC's owner, for treating me to such a transcendent experience! Considering that the spa's about equidistant from home and my office, I forsee stopping back in again soon!
