In an area that features many great playgrounds and parks to take your family to, Innovation Hills has always stood out. There is a lack of options for younger children though (no infant swings?). The three stars? One of the new features of this park is the addition of Park Mobile being introduced for the main parking lot. Signs everywhere reminding you that you better have paid your $1.50 an hour! There is of course a free dirt lot across the busy road for your convenience. Or a parking 'annual pass' you can purchase from the Rochester Hills website. Our society struggles with the concept of 'the third place'. Parks and playgrounds are a haven for families and a community builder outside of work and home. What in the world is the motivation behind suddenly charging for parking? 1 - The City of Rochester Hills wants to prioritize park access for its citizens? Charging for parking doesn't keep out non-residents and in fact just causes Rochester Hills citizens to pay more for something they are already paying for. 2 - The park is often extremely crowded so charging for parking may reduce visitor count? If this was the motivation I am confident this strategy is not working. 3 - We want to encourage more families to park in the dirt lot across the street and attempt to cross a highway? I have more faith in humanity than that. Oh, I think I got it! To quote Tim Robinson's sketch 'The Driving Crooner' - "I gotta figure out how to make money on this thing..it's simply TOO GOOD!"

The city of Brighton has done a really good job of building and maintaining this play park and the location being in the center of downtown is walking distance to all the wonderful business that this city has to offer. This is behind a school so when you google "playgrounds in Frankenmuth" and this pops up on your GPS, don't be surprised when you're turning into a high school parking lot. They had a playground for bigger kids, one for smaller kids, structures to climb, an empty area to simply run around, and all is surrounded with fencing. Additionally, I saw a few picnic tables, and other people mentioned the trails behind the school that were great for walking or biking. This was great place to get out from a long car ride. NO BATHROOMS right there (maybe portapotties close by but we didn't see any) so bring your own or teach your kid to go near a tree.

My little one is 5 and it is rated for ages 5-12. This structure has several slides, swings, rock walls, monkey bars, and other "challenges". My son had a great time, but was definitely timid at times. This is a great structure for him to grow and learn. There is also a playground specifically for those in wheelchairs, etc. I love to see the inclusive design to allow all children to enjoy the playground. Nearby, is a pavilion with indoor bathroom facilities. They are very clean and well-kept.

When I first started going here it was free to get in now they charge 20 dollars a car from Friday through Sunday but it's still worth it.... The beach front is large, there's a nice large restroom area, a covered sitting area with benches, plenty of picnic tables, drink vending machines, a little book library and more. Just like most beaches on Lake Huron there were lots of rocks on the shore and rocks a few feet into the water. Past the rocks the water was clear and there was soft sand. One of the things I liked best about this beach was there wasn't a current like there is closer to the bridge. My friend and I were able to float without being carried away. I also like that there were trees on the beach for some shade. If you are in this area, I highly suggest this beach. It's best to get there early before it gets busy.

If you're itching for a day at the beach but can't leave the Mitten, Oscoda Beach will scratch just…read morethat itch for you, and leave you ready to come back another time! On a recent hot weekday, I found myself off of work with no particular plans. I had heard about how beautiful Lake Huron was, especially up by Tawas Bay and further north, and decided that today was the day to check it out. I grabbed my partner in crime, and off we drove! Just a few hours later we were at the short, and kept driving until we reached Oscoda Beach Park. There we were greeted with a clean sandy beach, clear water, and clean restrooms, all in a place that also boasted free parking. We set out our chairs on a quieter stretch of the shoreline, and enjoyed the beautiful day. I closed my eyes and listened to the seagulls calling from above, and the gentle roll of the waves as they hit the shore. Shore, I miss the salty waves of the ocean, but when you can't stand your cabin fever anymore, Oscoda Beach Park is a great place to go for that escape!
