The beach front is large, there's a nice large restroom area, a covered sitting area with benches, plenty of picnic tables, drink vending machines, a little book library and more. Just like most beaches on Lake Huron there were lots of rocks on the shore and rocks a few feet into the water. Past the rocks the water was clear and there was soft sand. One of the things I liked best about this beach was there wasn't a current like there is closer to the bridge. My friend and I were able to float without being carried away. I also like that there were trees on the beach for some shade. If you are in this area, I highly suggest this beach. It's best to get there early before it gets busy.

The Rock Glen Conservation Area is a local area municipalities-run spot (like all Ontario…read moreconservation areas) surrounding Rock Glen Falls, a historical site. Since there isn't a larger provincial budget, these places run on a low budget with limited staff who can only do so much. That means the entrance fee of $4 cash is with the honour system where you deposit the fee into a slot on the door, rather than have someone constantly monitoring the entrance. There's no point in trying to cheat the system by not paying, as they rely on this revenue stream to operate and maintain the grounds. There are no vehicles allowed in the park, and I found out that includes bicycles. The view as you enter the front gate is welcoming, pastoral and pleasant, with a flowing scene of clearings, trails leading here and there, mature trees, and picnic tables scattered around. Impressive! There are hills and valleys throughout and some nice trails too. Best are the wooden stair structures that you can find within the trees where they are provided to give views of the gorge and bush surrounding it. If you listen, you can hear the falls, which was at a trickle when I was there but that can change through the seasons and years. There are about 100 stairs to get down to the base of the falls, with a gate that was padlocked just before reaching the bottom, to keep people safe. But it was easy to swing a leg over and climb, and even if you're short, it wouldn't be a problem. Looking at the falls, I could see how some of the large rocks near the top could easily fall at any time so keep that in mind. But there's nothing like being close to waterfalls to feel the spray and breathe in the mist. Close to the falls, the smell of the water and greenery was incredible, along with the stunning visuals of the water streaming down some of the vines and different plants and flowers vibing away constantly. At the bottom is a nice sized bowl of water where it collects after falling. I was tempted to go get my swim suit and have a dip even though there were large dead branches along one side and a swirling pattern of foam on the top of the water. Then I realized I was wearing a puffer so maybe another warmer day would be better. Since that area is so sheltered, I can see it as being heavenly going for a dip there.

The staff is friendly and available when needed. All in all, a great place to host a family reunion or similar get-together. We have been having an annual event here for almost a decade and I have yet to be disappointed!

Across the street is Chrysler beach where you can swim or fish. There's a kayak launch and it's the perfect place to watch the freighters go by. There's also another play set for kids to play on. In the summer months there's a concession stand open, along with the restrooms. I utilize the bay to bridge bike path on a weekly basis for running. The St. Clair River is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise.

It's a small beautiful park tucked a little away, and it did not disappoint. We went in the entrance further from the campsites, as the park has two entrance options. The area we arrived in was more long than wide, with a sprawling grassy area containing 2 pavilions (1 large, 1 small) and a playground for kids. While I did not see any buildings for restrooms, there was a portapotty near the entrance of the parking lot. The parking lot itself also had plenty of available spots. If you headed straight to the back of the park, you will find some wide, wooden stairs leading you down to the beach. It was absolutely beautiful, and bonus that we had the place to ourselves. I was thankful that we didn't run into any trash in the sand, the beach was small but clean. The water stays shallow for quite the distance out, but I would recommend water shoes as it is very rocky. Had an incredible afternoon here, and can easily recommend a visit.

We were unable to continue our stay but the park manager refunded our money and even helped us hock up our camper. We did not really get a chance to see the whole park but what we did see looked like it very nice and well kept and clean. We plan to stay there again in the future. I just cant say enough about the way they came to our aid.

It was recently updated with new structures…read more I love that you can use a real bathroom at the fire station, across the parking lot, or portapotties so you don't cross the parking lot. Cookies & Cream is next to the playground and has delicious ice cream, a stage for performances, and some lawn games (ex: giant Connect 4). The only concern is if you have a runner, there are too many exit points. For example, there's a slide at the top of a case of stairs. The top of the stairs also leads to the road. I'm really surprised they haven't put a gate up there yet!

There's no greater slice of heaven on Earth than the Paint Creek Trail. I still remember the first…read moretime my boyfriend and I walked down it 4 years ago--it was mid-October and the leaves were turning golden reds and browns. We walked about a mile and a half into downtown Rochester Hills, passing by a police horse, a family of seven deer, and many bikers, runners, and walkers like us along the way. The path was clean, the nature was beautiful, and everyone we passed was just as happy to be enjoying this trail as we were. It's just as magical today as it was then. This trail is, in short, an absolute gem. If there was a list for best casual walking trails near a downtown in the US, this would top it. We've easily put thousands of miles of walking into that trail--which has its unique history of its own as a former railroad line. Through every season, from rain to sun to snow, we've been blessed to watch its beautiful trees and flora evolve throughout the years. The best part, however, is that everyone respects the beauty of it. There are trash cans spread out, but you'll never find a candy wrapper or doggy bag left in a stray bush. Bikers make themselves well heard before safely passing around a group of idle walkers. It's rare to hear runners blaring loud music, and I swear children are visibly calmer when walking through Dinosaur Hill with their parents. I genuinely believe every city in America's overall happiness levels would skyrocket if they had a trail like this. But that's what makes the Paint Creek Trail special--it's uniquely one of a kind in its simplicity and beauty.
