Mainly because they have large, impeccable avocados for prices that are sometimes cheaper than what you'll find in the vega (I'm still not 100% convinced that they aren't involved in some kind of avocado smuggling ring..only slightly kidding) Besides being my go-to avocado spot, San Juan is like a mini feria in our neighborhood (a great place to go when you can't make it to the vega). They are family owned and even have their 2 year old daughter running around "helping". San Juan offers fresh fruits and veggies at prices cheaper than what you will find in the supermarkets down the road. They also offer eggs, milk, cheese and deli meats as well as canned goods. Plus, they have a large selection of liquor including "champagne", wine and pipeño. Tip: They usually run out of bread early in the day but sometimes they have some fresh in the back. We came for breakfast and had an overall great experience with friendly service and good food! La Resistencia offers a little bit of everything, but by far my favorite is their breakfast menu. They have a kickass egg menu that is served with hollandaise sauce *mouth watering-ly good* and toast. You can choose between vegetarian options like the fried onions and tomatoes (English breakfast style) or spinach and cheese to the meat eater bacon, ham or even meatballs! The best part is that their eggs are free-range and hormone-free! Besides their great egg breakfast, they have a good selection of teas as well as quality coffee - a perfect pairing to your breakfast. Although I haven't tried it, I saw they have what look to be delicious hamburgers and sandwiches plus a unique daily soup option. The sandwiches and hamburgers that were being served around us looked very tasty so I will definitely be coming back to take my partner here and confirm if the looks stack up to the taste. Since La Resistencia is located in the popular and very chic Drugstore gallery, we finished our breakfast and decided to "walk it off" by exploring the unique shops with local artesian designs and products.
