Nightmare: Dishonest Business Sold/Installed Defective Transmission and Refused to Honor National Warranty
Sanford Transmissions (ST) sold and installed a defective transmission that never worked properly, even after I returned it once and they had it a total of 7 business days over 2 weeks. Symptoms at various times included shuttering, high and/or inconsistent engine RPMs, poor gas mileage, inability to shift into highest gear, "check engine" light coming on, and transmission error codes on the vehicle's computer. The day after they said they finally had fixed it, the transmission began having issues 160 miles into a 1,600+-mile trip home they knew I was taking. Immediately after the vehicle made it home (despite symptoms above), two transmission shops did diagnostics and concluded the vehicle needed a new transmission. ST said before installing the transmission that it had a 3-year, unlimited mileage, national warranty, and ST provided a written warranty with the same provisions. After returning home and learning I needed another new transmission, I contacted ST to invoke the national warranty. Although not disputing they installed a defective transmission, ST refused to help, ridiculously insisting that I drive 1,600+ miles on a bad transmission to return the vehicle to their shop (relying on "fine print" on the receipt they provided after the transmission was installed). The national warranty ST provided apparently was from a fraudulent company that is no longer active. ST is not a member of the Better Business Bureau or the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association, so they are free to rip off customers without these organizations' oversight. I submitted a BBB complaint, but ST didn't even bother to respond to BBB's request. I regret relying on some good online reviews of ST and deeply regret buying a transmission from them. I have since replaced the defective transmission ST sold/installed (costing an additional $5,000+) and will have to sue ST to get my money back from them. Nightmare to deal with this unethical business. read more
