We parked a ways away in a parking deck. Getting to the field was OK, going back- A lot of "small" hills & steps. Stadium itself is not fancy. Very old, very dark, bathrooms are not well marked (in my opinion & seem to have more mens rooms than ladies. No real consessions, nooks around the bend & carts drinks & yes they have beer now at $10 & up. I don't remember seeing hotdogs or burgers. They have personal pizza, Chick fil A, bagged nachos, popcorn too. The stairs going down to the seats are VERY small & a lot of them. Well marked. I love that most seats have cushions & backs, but not all do. I think season holders pay extra for them?? May I tell you how CLOSE together everyone sits. Absolutely no room to move- literally sitting leg-to-leg! I was between my son & husband. Bith thin. I had to sit up on the edge of my seat to not be squished! Please be prepared when you go. This stadium is not for the best for elderly, folks with bad knees or who get winded easily! Friendly folks, community strong & to see this institution in person was pretty freaking cool!!! A WIN for Georgia too! They can't change the stadium, but a few spots of hand rails up those stairs would be VERY appreciated!! For this reason I give 3 stars. Experience, 5 stars!! Welcome to Stanford Stadium, home of the Georgia Bulldogs! I haven't been to the stadium in three years, and in that time, they've completed numerous renovations both inside and out. They've widened the corridors, added more seats, and made the entrance gates larger. From what I can see, everything looks fantastic and has helped reduce congestion in certain areas. The food options are impressive, featuring popular choices like Papa John's, Huey Magoos, Chicken Salt Chic and Chick-fil-A, along with some local spots. The prices for food are quite reasonable as well. Parking around the stadium is easy to find and moderately priced. The surrounding community is also lovely to stroll through on the way to the stadium. read more

Georgia's big college stadium was massive on the side. I was overwhelmed by the sheer massive size and the number of dedicated fans that would arrive early to a college game. I was lucky enough to get sold-out tickets for the game and tour the college campus for a couple of hours before the game. Seating is just standard bleacher seats with no backing. If you come early in the morning, bring cold-weather gear. Food was your typical ball park food. Overpriced and not very memorable. Restroom lines can be long. No outside alcohol is permitted. There is a great view and picture area along the railroad tracks, which I believe is on the east side of the stadium. Parking I recommend is to park near downtown Athens and take the 30 minute walk into the campus. read more

It's always a fun time especially when we win! Some highlights of Sanford stadium: *The reference "Between the Hedges" is due to the classic privet hedge of boxwoods that surrounds the playing field. I am a Season ticket holder to University of Georgia football at Sanford Stadium and can be found there 7-8 times a season on Saturdays. "It's Saturday in Athens- time to tee it up between the hedges" is the theme that gets everyone ready for the game. The stadium in on the campus of UGA and sits very close to downtown Athens (walking distance) offering many places to eat/drink before a game. Sanford Stadium seats 92,746 people making it the 10th largest for NCAA Colleges. A $63 million dollar renovation was completed in 2018. You can "rent" seat backs for the day or season. Sanford is Beautiful, loud and intimidating sea of red on game day. Games are played "Between the Hedges". Hedges surround the playing field. Typical stadium concessions located conveniently throughout the stadium. There are people who bring drinks, food, down the aisles for sale. Restrooms are plentiful and clean. The new video board is huge and loud. Entertainment also provided by The Redcoat Marching Band. If you are looking for tickets they can be found by scalpers downtown and on the streets. Many ticket holders also sell their tickets "on the bridge" outside the stadium gates. If you're coming to a game you can tailgate on campus, enjoy the Dawg Walk beside Tate Center (where the band performs, cheerleaders, coaches and players arrive at the stadium) or lounge in The Student Learning Center and watch other games on giant screen TV with many people. First of all I am a huge dawg fan and a season ticket holder. I can't think of anywhere better to be on a fall Saturday than Sanford Stadium. With the renovations recently it is a first class college football environment. Having the stadium in the middle of campus only adds to the experience. There is tailgating going on throughout most of campus which is another plus. We tailgate for years by the conference center under a huge tree that thankfully provides shade during the hotter games. Nothing better than walking from south campus through the crowd to the stadium. Getting in and out of Sanford is fairly easy, there are multiple entrances to access. Concession stands are OK, could use a little more options. I have had the opportunity over the years to visit and enjoy games in other stadiums, but I always love game day in Athens at Sanford. Great stadium and great game day atmosphere. Parking is not too bad for visitors. You can park relatively close in a private parking lot ($20 - $30) with tailgating capabilities. I did find the tailgating fragmented some. There are lots of tailgating going on close to the stadium but as a visitor you better have a Georgia hookup (friend) to tailgate there. Traffic is always a pain at most SEC stadiums on game day but I would say Sanford Stadium traffic is more in the middle of the pack compared to other SEC stadiums. The logistics getting in and out, and the stadium concessions and restrooms are good. The Georgia fans will give you a little ribbing as a visitor but nothing extreme. Athens is a great town and the UGA campus is absolutely beautiful. The stadium game day experience is one of the best in the SEC. read more

I so wish I had the $$$$$ to donate yearly to the Hartman Fund for football tickets! I mean, I could slowly donate... but I imagine it'd take be a decade or more to get decent seats. Haha. Each time I visit campus, I always come by the stadium. Recently, they renovated parts of it. Now there's a Jumbotron - thing is huge. I felt like an ant when I looked up. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - I've spent quite a lot of time in Athens, GA, and the highlight is always (usually?) coming to this world-famous stadium. Yes it needs a renovation, but it's still an absolute monolith and a wonderful place to come. The Georgian cheerleaders are stunning, the fans are loud, I always had a great time here and was made to feel welcome. There was one incident where I almost got into a fight with a gang of drunk college kids in the upper reaches of the stands, but I think that could have happened anywhere. I'm lucky that I'm good at hurrying out of an area crowded with people because it could have been ugly. I don't blame the stadium for that though. It's a great place. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** This is one of the biggest stadiums in the world, but it's not one of the best. It has an open end which means the atmosphere isn't as loud as it could be. Athens is one of the great college towns of the USA but it's never been great to me, and for that matter nobody has ever turned up to see me play really, even though 93,000 regularly turn up to see the Bulldogs play here. Well, as biased as I am, I'm nothing short of proud of my Alma Mater's stadium. Sanford Stadium is a great place to watch football, if you're sober enough to remember it. Sometimes, you go to a party there, and a football game breaks out. We may lose a game every now and again, but we won't lose a party. Also, where else could you meet all 92,746 friends in one place? Now that the UGA cliche statements (although true) are out of the way, here are some reviews of the actual venue: -They FINALLY cleaned the ice filters in the concession stands, so no more funky smelling ice. It's hard to drink a spiked coke with dookie smelling ice floating in your drink. -The Reed Plaza is pretty neat, and cleans up the North end of the Stadium quite well. It no longer feels like you are fenced in a sketch, downtown Atlanta parking lot over there. -The new video scoreboard is excellent. It's all video now, and is really flashy. I'm sure our recruits love it, I know I do. -The hedges here are legendary. I think they are one of the landmarks in college football you need to see, much like the Toomer's Oaks, or seeing Bevo. -This is the ONLY stadium in college football that houses the crypt for our mascots, housed in the east endzone. Can't miss the giant granite bulldog standing guard over our locker rooms. read more

I see most reviews for Sanford Stadium are written by biased UGA fans. Consider my opinion from a GT fan who's seen football in many stadiums. Sanford Stadium itself is nothing amazing. They pack in over 90k bodies with no regard for comfort or convenience, much like all large stadiums in CFB. Food is your typical hot dog, popcorn, candy, soda and etc. selection. Parking is what it is. Staff is decent, getting in and out of the stadium is smooth and the bathrooms have plenty of pissers to use. But what makes a college stadium is the whole experience. The tailgating, the fans (of both teams), the $#!+ talking, the quality of football, the city, parking, traffic, police and the weather. And with that said, I think the "Sanford Experience" is top tier. The delusional but passionate fans of UGA, the City of Athens, the tailgating, the level of football, the women in sundresses, the history, the drunk loudmouths, mild southern weather and all make Sanford a good venue for CFB. Road traffic coming in and out of Athens sucks, but what can you do with 100k rowdy people. P.S. this would've been a much more negative review had GT lost to UGA this year. read more

Being a Florida Gator fan, I was totally out of place being here for the G'day Spring game. I even stripped my truck of all of it's Florida Gators content before I got here just so some ignorant person wouldn't mess up my baby while I was here. Sports fans can be totally pricks towards other team fans when it's not their own team that the person is a representing. Talk about seeing a lot of red and black here. I kinda felt dirty being amongst all of the Georgia fans. Lol. But, I was here "in my white tee"(yep!) and my Altanta Falcons hat. So I basically fit in with others there. There was more than 93 thousand people that came out to this jank!! No lie! I mean who wouldn't come to a free football game and a free Ludacris performance though! That's why I was here with friends. Plus, I had bever been to Athens before either. I can say that I experienced "Between the Hedges" for once. Wow. What an awesome experience! The atmosphere at a UGA football game is more electric than some NFL games. We recently watched the USC v UGA football game. My sister goes to Georgia and we are visiting from California. I've been to my for share of Cal Berkeley, Stanford and SJSU games but this was much more of an all day football experience. My gf, who has never been to any college football game ever, made the comment "this is like Disneyland for football fans." She hit the nail on the head. The entire afternoon was filled with a sea of red fans tailgating and grilling all across campus followed by kick off that was deeply rooted in traditional UGA cheers and chants. This is a must see stadium. I was last here in 2012 and they have made some significant improvements for players and fans. They renovated this summer and the main entrance (gate 10) is awesome. Pictures from last years SEC Championship and much more. The players also go through there during the Dawgwalk (also a must see). They also updated the restrooms. The only flaw I had was the seating. It is bleacher seating with no separation from the person next to you. Usually not a big deal but this guy kept squeezing his way on my numbered seat and I kept having to remind him he was squeezing his way on my seat. Overall, experience was nothing short of spectacular, even playing against a non-conference foe. 93,000 fans were rocking. read more

This was my first time making it to Athens and it was well worth the trip! We found a great little tailgate spot that was walking distance from the stadium. Once we got to the stadium it was very easy to find our seats. Anywhere in Sanford would be worth having a seat because the view is wonderful. This is a very special place among the hearts of all GA fans, and rightfully so. The atmosphere is amazing. We arrived that morning and found parking. Arrive early if you want a good spot as the good lots will fill up rather quickly. The tailgaters were already in full effect around the area. The great thing about this stadium is it's within walking distance of downtown, so we walked on over to grab a bite. The stadium itself was great as always. The stadium and the area around the stadium are very well kept and gorgeous to look at. There is plenty of staff to help you find where you need to go. My latest visit, was for the annual free spring game. This was a big one as the new coach wanted 93k people to show up, and boy did they ever. My review is so biased. I am a DAWG through and through and there is absolutely no other place in the world I would rather see my boys win a game. The atmosphere is great, even with the new absurd tailgating rules. The fans are so energetic and everyone around is very friendly and there to see one thing, a victory. If you are not a Dawgs fan, I imagine it wouldn't be so comfortable. But hey, they have nice staff at the stadium, clean bathrooms, and good stadium food. Great place to watch the UGA Bulldawgs trounce anyone else. Security is tight and what you are allowed to bring in must be in your pockets or a small clear bag. For the most part security is polite. Some fans are way too inebriated and out of hand and the concessions are pricey but that's to be expected at a college football game, which is the main event other than spring graduation at this stadium.
