After I bought my wedding dress, I knew I would need alterations, but expected the bridal shop would do them in-house (wrong). Luckily Clarice's provided a list of their preferred tailors, and Sandy's was at the top of the list. Being the skeptic I am, I asked around and found that most of my friends took their wedding dresses there and were thrilled with the quality, speed and price, so I was sold. When I brought it in, three weeks before my wedding mind you, they said it wouldn't be a problem. Again, I was skeptical, but they called me about 2 weeks later to come in for a fitting. The hem was perfect, keeping the original lace along the bottom too, and it fit 99%. They showed me bustle options and within about 10 minutes I was on my way and told to come back in 5 days. Sandy's is amazing and I've since recommended them to any bride I know in St. Louis. The only potential flaw is that they're cash only, but it's a non-issue if you know that going into it. read more

Extremely disappointing. I had taken simple things here to be hemmed and didn't have any problems. Then I purchased a leather coat. An expensive leather coat. I brought it in to get the sleeves hemmed and was assured she had worked on leather and it would be no problem. I am so mad at myself for taking that beautiful coat to her to be damaged. The sleeves were uneven and the stitching was horrendous! It looked like a child got a hold of it and didn't know what they were doing. I quickly examined the coat when I picked it up, and was shocked at her reaction. In front of other customers she repeatedly told me it was right and that she had done what I asked. I held it up and showed her how one sleeve was longer than the other and how the stitching was shit (for you Tracey!) and she continued to repeat that they were done correctly. I had a bridesmaid dress I took to her and when I dropped it off she was too busy really to even do a good pinning job. she told me to come back in 2 weeks, I did and the dress has not been touched... TOUCHED! She told me to come back the next couple days. I did, the him had not been TOUCHED! She made me come back an hour later to pick up the dress and it was half ass completed. She is too busy and keeps taking on more work and cannot do a good job on what he accepts. So many more places around town that are cheaper, and do better work. read more

Been going here for years. I have my clothes tailored often and this is the only place I will go to. She has many years of experience, and frequently I see uniforms for police, military, priest robes, school uniforms, Irish dancers skirts, she does it all--not just wedding gowns. Be sure to plan ahead, they don't necessarily do a quick turnaround and only take cash/check. Sweet Italian ladies, makes me feel like I'm having my grandma patch up my clothes. Sandy's was great! I had a dress come in much later than expected due to delivery delays by the company. I was declined by 5 tailors. I called Sandy's and she agreed to take my dress! She got it done in 2 weeks. I just picked it up - it looks so much more flattering on me. The price was very reasonable ($50 overall for 2 different things that had to get done to the dress)! She's incredibly kind, professional, made modifications for COVID, and she was flexible & understanding with some requests I made. I take all my alterations and/or sewing needs to Sandy's. They are soooo reasonably priced, and there is no task they cannot take care of for you. They have a quick turnover rate, and always completed on time. My favorite thing: they will hem your JEANS using the original hem so it doesn't look hemmed (don't jeans look cheesy w/most hemmed jobs?). For you 9-5ers, they have hours on Sat (9-2pm). I would definitely recommend Sandy's for any alteration needs. I took my wedding dress to them last November and they did an excellent job for a fair price. I took a pair of jeans to Sandys during the first week of June 2013 and asked for a hole in the knee to be patched. I even supplied the patch! They told me they were kinda busy and it would be a coupla weeks. I said fine and actually waited 3 weeks. I called to see if they were ready at the end of the month. No they weren't.... could I call back in a week. I waited another 2 weeks and called again. Sorry the lady who does jeans isn't here. Come by and pick them up next week. Went by at the end of July and there was a sign up saying "On vacation until August 7th". Went back August 7th and here's the funny part. When I walked in, the lady who served me said "Good morning, how may I help you " in perfect, flawless English with no trace of any kind of accent. However, once she found my jeans and they STILL had not been patched, she was suddenly struck by some strange affliction and could only repeat in pigeon English/Italian that " we a been onna da vacation .... you comma backa later" When I asked "since the first week of June?", she just kept repeating that same statement with her fake,immigrant impression. Needless to say I took my (unpatched) jeans and left. These people are a joke. They were unable to put a simple patch on a pair of jeans after being given more than eight weeks to do so! Oh I almost forgot.....they lost the denim patch I supplied too! read more

I took a brand new pair of $60 pants in to be hemmed. Easy enough you would think. I picked them up and took them home and wore them a week later only to find out that they had hemmed one leg about an inch shorter than the other. I took them back and they measured and agreed the one Ken had been hemmed to short and said they would fix them. Never apologized even a little. I went back a week later to pick them up and was in a hurry but tried them on quickly to make sure that they were at least even. Got them home and went to wear them when I realized the one leg at the bottom looked odd. When they shortened it originally they must have cut off too much fabric and sewed some other fabric on to lengthen it so they could hem it. Since they are only open three days a week I will have to wait almost a week before I can even tell them how unhappy I am. A hem seemed like such an easy thing yet I am now out a brand new pair of pants and have spent four Saturdays so far dealing with this. read more

While Sandy's did an alright job altering my actual wedding gown, they botched my reception dress so bad it was almost unwearable. I had to take to a completely different tailor to fix. It was a simple thing too. SHORTEN STRAPS. Instead of taking the length out of the straps they sewed them farther into the dress which made the whole dress come up several inches. You see, the dress fit perfectly on my body. The waist and bust were at the perfect place, the revealing back was just right. After they hacked at it, the revealing low back hem was now at the center of my back and the drop v neck line was hiked up to my collar bones. It was cheap, but you get what you pay for. read more

I took my suit to Sandy's because it's a little shop in my neighborhood. NEVER AGAIN! If you're a "tailor", how is it possible to completely botch the cuffs on a suit jacket? I know people say this all the time, but I really could've done a better job. They did a terrible job and the worst part about it was it was my wedding jacket, they had a month to do it and they were a day late! I took the suit back twice more to have them fix their mistakes but ended just paying for it because they never got fixed and I didn't want to deal with them anymore. They were plenty nice but took rush measurements and didn't really listen to me. I ended up taking it to Brentwood Tailor because I know they're fantasatic. Lesson learned. read more

Both me and my husband have had pants shortened. I took in some Brooks Brothers pants that were $200 lined pants to have the cuff removed. When I got them back they were too short!! Nothing could be done. I had other pants and jeans shortened and they came back fine. My husband has had pants shortened there with no problem. I may take less expensive items there but will not take in anything expensive again. read more

I have been there twice; once to get two suit coats tailored and once to get some pants let out. Both times I had to come back because my items were not finished. In both cases they spent less than 30 seconds with me, didn't ask a single question of my needs, and only pinned one side of the suit coats. They may be cheap but I would rather pay for a the same quality job with professional service...it is just a shame because I live right down the road from them. read more

I will NEVER return to Sandy's again, EVER!! I went to her store after being referred and needed my wedding dress altered. Prior to going in, I called multiple times to make sure they had enough time and verifying they would be able to spend enough time with me since they stated customers don't need to make appointments. Sandy worked with me every time, each time NEVER once measuring the length to match the sides to each other. She rushed us because her employees either struggle with English or lack the skills to work with the customers, her lobby area was overflowing with customers waiting to be helped.. who in turn were becoming pushy and knocking on our dressing room door because apparently we were taking too long, and each time I suggested something be worked on she told me "It was fine" or "I will be fine" as if my concerns didn't matter! After my third alteration, my bustle was still messed up and falling all over the place, my dress was uneven and resembled a mop, you could see where she was pulling material underneath my dress and stitching through my dress, and the lace was starting to tear because she was being so rough. Not to mention, each time she would take my dress out of the bag, I personally saw her drag it across the floor that was NEVER vacuumed and ALWAYS dirty. After my 7th alteration exactly a week before my wedding, I had no choice but to take it with me to be steamed. By then, my bustle was still uneven and she had to show us how to safety pin it to make it look as it should, lace had to be cut from both the top and bottom of my dress because she was so rough each time she handled it, and we had to take a Shout stick to the neck line because of how dirty it had become from all of the handling On the day of my wedding, no one could figure out my bustle (not even bridesmaids, family, or photographers that have been in multiple weddings and fix bustles all the time) to match my dress and we ended up losing an hour and a half of photography and party bus, all due to being stuck inside trying to bustle my dress. We ended up taking a handful of safety pins and pinning where it looked "right". Unfortunately we had to pin silk and lace to make it hold. In all, we lost about $600 in vendors because Sandy couldn't fulfill her job and lost $220 in alterations because Sandy charged us for nothing... Not to mention, she botched the crap out of my grandma's dress too... but that's a story for another day. Just save yourself the stress and stay away from Sandy's. read more

While Sandy and her crew are friendly and efficient, she is very expensive for a simple bridesmaids dress hem and breast cups sewn in. Not only was the $85 charge for a simple 1in. hem and cups a shock, the dress didn't even come back steamed/ pressed! Perhaps that was my fault for not asking, but for $85 I would have hoped that it would have came back to me ready to wear! Nope. Now I have to scramble to find someone last minute to steam my chiffon Bridesmaids dress which I'm sure will cost me another $10-20. I'd be cautions taking your wedding dress there... or at least make sure it gets steamed. read more

Sometimes the turnaround was a little slow, but I always take things in early to make sure I get it when needed. If I have needed something quickly, I tell her and she is always accommodating. They even altered my older daughter's first communion dress to fit my younger daughter, which required adding extra panels on the sides. I couldn't even tell that it was not original. Before I say anything else, let me just say that eventually, things worked out fine, my dress was ready in time, and the price was reasonable. That said, I went in with a bridesmaid dress and a pair of pants. It was Saturday, the place was packed, and I felt like the amount of attention paid to what actually needed to be done to the dress was fairly minimal. It turned out that concern was warranted. When I got the dress back, it had been altered too much, and I had to wait another week for it to get fixed. I feel this was a very avoidable mistake. I could have brushed that off, but the kicker was that I had to remind them that I'd also brought in a pair of pants. Apparently they had separated the pants and the dress and kept the ticket with my dress.What followed was several minutes of 2 ladies going through what seemed like every pair of pants in the place asking, are these your pants? These? These? We finally located them, but really, that was also avoidable and rather unprofessional. Next time, I'll go somewhere else. read more
