Terrible pedicure! The pedicure left my toe bleeding when she cut the cuticle and then kept putting different products to try to stop the bleeding that were burning my toe. Then they have the audacity to charge me even though my toe was still bleeding but give me a "discount". Steer clear! I would give zero stars if that was an option. read more

Severely disappointed, disturbed, and unhappy with my experience. I called ahead to make sure they had space/time for a mani/pedi and a pedi without an appointment. They said yes and to come on over. Once there, they had us wait before seating us, then only sent over one nail technician to work on my friend. The pedicure bowls had plastic bags in them, which the man running the water mention was not recommended by the montgomery county health inspector but was used regardless....My technician, Mimi, came when my friends was almost done with her pedi, and both technicians finished at the same time. That alone should how she rushed through my pedi (that didnt last 24 hrs!). For my mani, I asked for acrylic nails and the woman at the desk and Mimi said they could not do that- even though it was an option on their list of services. Fine okay, I agreed to let them do the dip mani. Mimi rolled something over my cuticles that made them stand up- then did not cut them. I waited until she was finishing the top coat to see when she would cut them, then I said something. Mimi said that cutting the cuticles and loose skin was extra- so she was just going to let me walk out of there with messed up cuticles? I told her that was fine, but I needed her to give me the option to cut them and not decide that herself. She also skipped the massage for the mani- who knows what else she skipped. Today, my pedicure did not last, AND MY CUTICLES HAVE BEEN BLEEDING ON AND OFF. The total for one dip mani and 2 regular pedis came out to $110. Now, I do not mind paying for quality- but this is 100% not worth it. I used to love Sandy Nails and was excited to come back after traveling the last year. I've been coming to Sandy's Nails for over 3 years now and Tran has always done a fantastic job. I always get pedicures every 2/3 weeks since I tend to have ingrown nails but most recently have ventured out to gel manicures. Woah! What a huge difference it makes my nails feel and look great. I got a horrible Gel manicure. The cuticles were cut poorly, and nail polish residuals around the edges. They fixed it and within 15 minutes of leaving the gel started peeling. Not impressed, first and last time I visit! The nail tech was very friendly but she did not spend much time on my feet. She did a good job on the painting of my toes but that is about it. I am used to more massage of my legs and feet and she only spent five minutes tops on both. I sat for about 20 minutes to dry and she never checked on me again. When I went to pay, I was informed that if I paid with a check card there was a $2 fee which I paid but was told I could not add the tip to the transaction. I was then told that there was an ATM in the back which I refused to use and pay another fee. Nowhere was there any signage about a fee for using a credit card, isn't this the cost of doing business! I ended up leaving and getting cash from my bank to pay the tip. Overall annoying experience...who carries cash these days....they need to get with the times. I visited the salon for the first time yesterday based on other Yelp reviews. I was highly impressed. The staff are so warm and welcoming, it's clean and parking around the corner is easy (bring change for the meter). The best part is getting my gel french manicure ($40 if you pay in cash) done by Coco!!! She's super talented, attentive and doesn't rush through her work. I am now on the schedule to see her every 2 weeks, and I've never done that with any other salon before. I ran errands throughout the day and 2 other people noticed my nails and commented on how nice they looked, which made me feel great and reaffirmed the great work that Coco did. Wonderful, wonderful salon. Although I used to be a regular customer, when I moved to Cleveland Park I started going to a place that was much closer to home. My new salon applied acrylic nails which never looked quite right, and eventually with age started to look downright dingy. I've had acrylics before, and I asked them repeatedly whether I needed a new set, whether there there were any hygiene concerns etc... My inquiries were only met with a shrug and the ubiquitous "it's OK, no problem." Then I found myself 2 days from moving abroad and desperate to have them removed for good. I've seen what acrylics can do to nails if removed improperly, so I really wanted someone I could trust. Thus, I returned to Sandy. Peter who I believe is the owner, took me immediately with no appointment and gently but skillfully removed them. He explained that the crescent shaped indentation at the base of my nail was because the nails weren't being filled correctly. He also discussed, rather scientifically, the multivariate components of nail health. 30 minutes later, my nails looked normal. He suggested a strengthening product and my total bill was less than the cost of one fill. He is simply perfection, and I'm not sure I can ever go anywhere else. read more

I was in town visiting my mother and I asked her to make an appointment for me and my daughter to have a gel manicure and spa pedicure for me and just a spa pedicure for my daughter. The owner (Peter) introduced himself to me and proceeded to give the best pedicure and gel manicure I've ever had. Super clean! Super relaxing. I enjoyed everything about our visit. My wife has used this place for a few years because a friend recommended it. But the owner has always been rude, forgetting who the customer is. And he has insisted on removing jels by having clients use the same bowl of used cotton with used acetone-- which cannot be sanitary or proper. I walked in without an appointment and was seen right away. They gave me two technicians. The one on my hands rushed through the job, and I wasn't impressed. The one who did my pedicure, though, was great. Koko is the first nail techician whose nail art I was actually happy with. I always tell them that I don't want anything too loud, garish or colorful, but they can't see to listen. Koko did a design that was pretty, subtle, and elegant - just like I asked for, finally! Also, I'm Vietnamese but denied knowing the language to see what they'd say. Unlike other places, the two techs did not badmouth any customers in Vietnamese when talking to each other while I was there. I've been to a lot of nail places in the Bethesda/Rockville/Gaithersburg area and this place has the largest selection of gel polish I've seen if you're into that. read more

Just left Sandy Nails and I'm furious. Came here once during the summer and the technician did a wonderful job. Today...horrendous. Came in for a gel manicure without an appointment and was seated right away with Helen (at least that's what her nametag said). My nails were a decent length. I asked her for TRIM, and for ROUNDED edges. She replied "square with round edges?". "No. Rounded." "Ok, I'll do square with round" (?????!!!!). It was quite clear she didn't understand what I was asking for, but rather than argue I figured I'd just keep a close eye on her work. She barely touched my cuticles, and whittled my lengthy nails down to tiny chiclets. Not only that, but my nails are terribly crooked and she didn't even bring the polish all the way down to the cuticle!!! I just got my nails done and it already looks like I need a fill-in!!! To top it all off, this cost me $35 plus tip. I'm usually a generous tipper, but I was so irritated that I threw on a measly $3 and got the heck out of there. Do not come here unless you know which specific technicians do good work, and make an appointment with one of them. Unfortunately I won't be coming back. read more

Sandy's Nails is the best place I've have ever had my nails done or had waxing services. They will take you with an appointment or as a walk-in right away. The atmosphere is inviting and welcoming. The staff has a good attitude and they really know how to take great care of their customers. Because of my busy schedule, I usually ask to get my manicure and pedicure done at the same time and they are always willing to assign two technicians to get me in and out as soon as possible. The prices are really reasonable! The finished product is as good as any high-priced salon. The technicians are well trained and know exactly what they are doing. The location is right in the heart of Bethesda and there is plenty of parking. They always do an incredible manicure that lasts and lasts. I have been a long time customer and am always happy when I get such great service in a short period of time for a great price and leave with great looking nails. Whenever I go down to Bethesda to visit my best friend, we usually get our nails done together at Sandy Nails. THE GOOD: I have to say up front that they always give an amazingly beautiful and long-lasting manicure and pedicure. The technicians are friendly and the salon is kept clean. No doubt the constant crowd of ladies moving in and out, up and down the brightly lit, narrow aisle of the venue is due to the fact that they provide such quality product and services. THE BAD: That being said, you do much better making an appointment here than just walking in on the weekend. The included hand and foot massage portion of the mani-pedi is very short. They don't accept credit cards, it's cash only. There's an ATM in the back of the salon that will charge you a $2 fee to use and it's the only one within walking distance (especially if you're walking with newly polished toes!). THE UGLY: The owner/manager is not a nice person. She never smiles and she never seems to go out of her way to accommodate anyone. It's because her staff is so excellently trained that women keep coming back here, because this lady could really use some charm school lessons at the University of Customer Service. So if you make an appointment for a mani-pedi, and your friend does too, make sure you state on the phone BEFOREHAND that you would like to sit next to each other. Otherwise you may find yourself...sitting 8 chairs away from your friend while the chair next to her is empty but is "being held for an elderly client who needs to sit near the front because she can't walk much." And then you may find that by the time you and your friend have gotten your fabulous pedicures done, said chair is still empty and no elderly client ever came in. And you may find yourself....without an apology or any explanation from the manager who wouldn't let you sit together in the first place. I would give Sandy 2 stars for that experience alone if it weren't for the amazing mani-pedi's and skilled nail techs. And the days go by... read more

Zero stars! Beware!! Easily one of the worst pedicures I have ever had. Tried to advocate for myself and give the nail tech some basic redirection (Pedicure 101 material) and that was a waste of time. Tried to talk to other nail techs working there for help- another joke. Tried to talk to manager- FAIL. My friend was in the chair next to me & had an equally horrific experience. Her complaints/requests were ignored, as well. Customers empathized. Anyone working there was on another planet. I couldn't get out of there fast enough & will NEVER go back. I don't get the hullabaloo about this place. I went for a mani/pedi on a Thursday afternoon and by Sunday night my nails were already chipping. The technician put the clear coat on too thick so there were little bubbles in the polish. They spent about 45 seconds total buffing my feet. All in all a mediocre, if that, experience. Keep in mind I was there in the middle of the day on a Thursday so its not like they were slammed and needed to hurry through my appointment (which I had called and made). I would not return. I live in DC and much prefer my little nail salon, Q-West Nails, where a manicure lasts 7 days without chipping, even with nearly black polish (as I like to wear)! read more

Be careful about pricing here. When I called they told me it would be $55 for a full set of acrylics and a pedicure. When it comes time to pay they tried to charge me $68 for acrylics and a pedicure. They told me there was a charge for paying with a card instead of cash and a higher charge for the shape of the nail I requested. I was not warned of either charge and was pretty upset that this was so much more than originally quoted. They took $3 off so I ended up paying $65 but be aware that what they tell you on the phone or the prices on the wall may not reflect the final charge and there are plenty of hidden fees that you will not be told about. read more

in so many words i love this salon. i have been coming here for 8 years and have never found another nail salon that i am nearly as in love with. its always very very clean, i have seen them move all the stations and mop the entire salon at the end of the night. no appointment needed, and they rarely ever make you wait. if you do, its for a short time. the work is good! they always give my ingrown toenails the TLC they need, and make my feet and hands look beautiful. no matter what kind of caveman feet i walk in there with. they also have a good assortment of lacquer colors. the waxing services are great, and reasonably priced. ive gotten multiple full leg and brazilian waxes here and they really do not miss a thing! have i mentioned how quick they are? a bonus are the childrens pedicure chairs! sweet as anything, and my brother loves that he can get his toes painted blue in a chair just for him. my only complaint is the cash only policy. i know credit card processing for small business charges sky high rates, and in the defense of the salon there is an atm in the back. but its much easier to just be ready and bring cash. read more

This place is relatively cheap but you get what you pay for. A manicure was $14 but it lasted less than 20 minutes. The "massage" consisted of someone clumsily rubbing lotion on my hands. They gave me no opportunity to wash my hands after the "massage" and so now, 3 days after my manicure, the polish is peeling (not chipping but peeling) off of several of my fingers. I brought my mom and daughter here the day after Christmas. We were seated right away for our pedicures. We were told to go to the way back. As we walked further back, the smell of the shop got really bad. It was like a bathroom or dumpster or a garage. It stayed smelly the whole time. My pedicure was terrible. She sped through it and hardly worked at all on my obviously dry and rough heels. Meanwhile, she seemed to be having a heated discussion with the other ladies. On a whim, I went there for a manicure and pedicure. I was really surprised by how many people were in there--- granted, it was a Saturday afternoon at 1pm. But still, it didn't seem like it was that big from the outside but they had plenty of stuff going on on the inside! The service was great, the mani/pedi was $37 and I got an eyebrow wax--- all equaling up to $49. I'm sorry--- but this quality of work that I would get in Georgetown would probably be around $60-$65 at the very least. Good pricing. I only had to wait 2 minutes--- and that's b/c I was choosing my nail polish. It was my first time at this salon. The owner/manager gave me $4.00 off of a gel manicure. I was taken to a nail spa chair at the back of the salon. However, it was broken. Then I was taken to two other chairs that were not working. My pedicure was ok. The tech kept scrubbing my feet with a small brush with irritated my feet. She did not do a very good job with a foot massage either. The manicure was awful. My nails are short and were cut even shorter and rounded. I have man looking nails... This has been my go to nail and wax spot for the past 8 years. Everyone is so friendly. I have been hesitant about writing this review, because the lady I go to is already always busy...and this review would potentially make her more busy...but I have to be true to my yelping ways and say that Trang is awesome. She is so attentive to details. If you want a speedy in and out job then go to someone else, but if you want someone who care and wants to make sure you leave happy, Trang is your person. There have been days that she wasn't there and they would put me with someone else, and honestly I've never had a bad experience. This is more like an assembly line experience but if you want a personal salon experience where you get a true massage during a pedicure your best bet is Nails by Tammy or another nearby salon who offers the same types and more personalized quality of services.
