Sandy was prompt and in 5 minutes had given me a quote and offered to the work right there on the spot. Insanely knowledgeable and adept at negotiating 1955, no code circuit layouts into a safe and highly functional configuration. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sandy to my friends and family. After seeing some of the reviews, I have to comment on one. I'm a big fan of Yelp and reviewed over 400 businesses on 4 continents. A whole electric section of my house (six lights and some outlets) was not working. I called several electricians in the area and only two returned my call. One said that he was too busy to come and the other called back after Sandy of Zippy agreed to come two days later. Sandy arrived at the agreed time. He was neatly dressed and well spoken and I felt that I was in good hands. He used some electric radar machine (something like the metal detectors that one sees on TV) to find the fault. Some of the wiring needed to be replaced. He did the job quickly and cleaned up the mess afterwards (dust and shavings from going into the ceiling). Everything's working now. The bill was quite reasonable and I'd have no problem using Sandy again or referring him to friends and neighbors. The only reason that I didn't give five satrs is because we're talking about a home repair here, not a symphony, or life saving surgery, or the Mona Lisa, and so "Yay, I'm a fan" is about as happy as one can get about a home repair. **updated to present the facts in a clear manner without humor and to document my experience with Zippy after leaving a 1 star review" Sandy from Zippy was hired to install an attic fan. While in my attic, he said that he needed to rewire a junction box. This junction box provided power to my bedroom ceiling fan and overhead light. He explained that this rewiring would cost extra and we agreed to the work and cost. Sandy did not check to see if the ceiling fan and overhead light in my bedroom were working before he left. I was disappointed when I went to use the light that evening that it did not work. I called Sandy and explained the issue. He said that if it was due to his work, that he would fix it at no cost. When Sandy returned he checked his work in the attic and stated his work was satisfactory and was not the cause of our issue. He looked at the fan/light from the bedroom and found poor splices and loose connections. Since he stated that the work he performed was good, he charged us for the return visit. I had a light and fan that worked before he did re-wiring in my attic and after he left it no longer worked. He stated that the wires may have come loose while he was walking around in my attic doing the other work. Sandy proceeded to charge us for the return visit. My husband and I were disappointed to pay an additional $46 on top of the approximately $700 that we had paid for the work. We feel that a customer service oriented technician would have taken into consideration the $700 he had already been paid, and the fact that the light worked before he touched it and not charge us for the return visit. After leaving Zippy a 1 star review on Yelp, I received a phone call from him. He didn't call to ask how he could make it better. He didn't ask what he could do in order to win my business back, or change my rating. He asked me to remove my review. He called again and sent an email asking the same. I explained to Sandy that my dispute was over $46 and if that was refunded I would remove my negative review. The work we asked for was completed to our satisfaction, however we did not agree with being charged more to correct an issue that was caused when he was doing other work. He chose not to refund the $46. Therefore, my review stands. I considered this an opportunity for Sandy to win back a customer and he did not take it. Unfortunately, after my 1 star review, 2 new customers have given him 5-stars. These customers signed up for Yelp the same day they gave the review and have never reviewed any businesses other than Zippy. This seems suspicious to me. Either Sandy is asking long time customers to come to his defense and increase his rating, or he has created fake profiles. One of these reviewers, Robert B. sent me a private message stating that "Sandy is done with me" "He doesn't care about my bogus review" and that "I should be ashamed of myself." Robert B's attorney wife "has advised Sandy to sue me going forward for lost income" and that "I'm blackmailing him." Robert B goes on stating he is "filing a better business complaint against Yelp for allowing my review." I'm not sure why Robert B, a long time and satisfied customer would send me private messages defending his favorite electrician and has plans to file a BBB complaint on behalf of Zippy Electric. Not good. Came out for generator repair and Sandy spent a loooong time on it. He charged me $800 and the next time the electricity went out, the generator didn't come on. Dead. So I called Mike Totten (GREAT!) and he came same day and said there was NO OIL in the generator. It was absolutely bone dry. IF the generator had run like that, of course, the engine would have been blown and I'd have needed a new generator. Don't call this guy. Also, two electricians I've spoken with have never heard of Sandy. Weird. read more

I actually found these guys on Yelp, as I didn't have a go-to electrician. I was very pleased. Sandy was open and honest about the potential price, asked me a lot of questions on the phone to ensure he'd show up with the right parts. He didn't but ran out to the shop to get the right parts and didn't charge us for the time. The price was reasonable, not the best, but certainly not outrageous. I recommend them. read more

Sandy was hired to work on an HVAC system in my home that wasn't working properly. He was so incredibly thorough in diagnosing the problem. Not only did he spend time at the home but priceless time on the phone and in person with me discussing the issues, explaining the diagnosis, educating me on the mechanics and rationalizing the decisions that needed to be made. He was a huge advocate and support to me in dealing with a difficult situation involving another company. He has always answered my calls, texts and emails in a timely and professional manner. Sandy McLardy of Zippy Electric installed a Generac automatic standby generator for our house in May of this year. We have had two power outages since then and the generator has kicked on and done what it should. He has also done some other electrical repairs in our house in addition to the generator. Sandy does excellent work. He answers phone calls and emails, arrives at the appointed time, keeps at a job until it is finished and cleans up afterwards. He listens to you and values your opinion, unlike some contractors who try to bamboozle you. His rates are reasonable and he tries to save you money rather than stuffing his own pockets.
