As someone who's been coming here since a kid I'm very disappointed. Starting off, I made an order online. Usually you can walk to the bar and be taken care of. I stood there for almost 15 mins. The girl at the bar looked like she didn't know how to manage. Multiple times she said I'll be right back. Not coming back with any orders and picking up the phone instead. Then another looked at me and the other man standing there and said "I have a bunch of hunger faces looking at me" And did nothing to help. Besides the service the food isn't what I remember. I love the broccoli cheddar soup. The flavor was great but no pieces of broccoli??? I felt like I was eating queso.. my sandwich was burnt toast, they hid the burnt side and left the less burnt side visible. I'm not one to complain and understand everything has changed since covid with multiple places. It's just sad when you want a childhood comfort food and it just doesn't hit the spot. read more

We stopped by this local restaurant because my mother worked at the original restaurant as a teenager. You order up front and then sit and wait for your food. There is complementary crunchy bread. The staff is very attentive and made sure that we didn't need any refills and that all of our food was good. They also wore their masks correctly. I ordered the Duet Combo: garden salad with cilantro dressing and 1/2 6th Street Sandwich with no meat. I really liked the salad and the dressing, and the sandwich was okay. The food deserves 3 stars. The broccoli cheese soup was on point. My spinach bacon salad was awesome. Although the chicken salad was nothing special the croissant it came on was very tasty. The service was alright but there was an employee hanging out at the bar constantly on his phone. Other workers were asking him what his problem was. Several different people approached him about it. It's one thing to have staff issues behind the scenes but when your customers can see this there is a big problem. read more

This is a good place for a quick bite to eat. Expect to spend more than $10 per person, and it's well worth it. I got the BLT and avocado. It was delicious. It came with chips but I was too full to eat them after the sandwich. The place is small and they make the most of the space. The desserts looked yummy but I'll have to get one next time. I saw sundaes and carrot cake, there were several others too. Parking is on the street and can be kinda tricky if it's your first time. My wife and I eat here almost every Saturday, so I figure I'd give them a review. First off. After a year of this pandemic crap, Sandy McGee's still keeps things clean and sanitized. Some places we've eaten seem to have gotten a bit more lax. We always see the employees wearing masks. Ok, maybe once or twice an employee will lower their mask to answer the phone. Tables are spaced apart to honor social distancing and they offer hand sanitizer at the register. Now for the food and service. When you walk in, they have menus on a side table. Look over the menu and proceed to the counter to place your order. Not that difficult for most, but I guess a few people have challenges with this process. They will bring out your food to your assigned table. Sometimes it might take a the food longer depending on the number of diners. They don't have a huge kitchen and they do receive a lot of take out orders, so be patient. We usually get a duet which includes half a sandwich with a small salad or fruit. Portions are big, so the prices will reflect that. You know how most places will bring out a little cup of fruit? Not here. I want to say it's at least 2 cups of fruit. And it's not your typical cup of grapes. The fruit salad consists of pineapple, apples, strawberries, grapes, bananas, kiwi (sometimes), various melons and some seasonal berries. The sandwiches I enjoy are the BLT, chicken salad, egg salad, turkey/cheese. The variety of green salads, if order as an entree (not duet), are huge. I usually get the Mr. B's. It's a large dinner plate and includes grilled chicken breast. After you place your order they give you a basket of bread crisps. Their cheese/broccoli soup is very good and we use it as a dip for our bread. Prices seem fair for the amount of food you get. As they say, you pay for what you get. Service has always been good and friendly. When we walk up to the counter the employee greets us, if that's important to you. After that, there's really not much interaction with the employees at least for lunch. At dinner, they start using wait staff/table service. My only complaint is they don't have a lot of dinner items that interest my wife and I. It's basically the same menu unless they run some kind of dinner special. However, having a sandwich or large salad isn't a bad dinner. Over all, we've always been pleased with Sandy McGees. read more

This is my families favorite restaurant. My kids ask to celebrate everything here! The food is so yummy ( I love the chicken sandwich and fruit salad), drinks are awesome, and the desserts are to-die-for. Tried this local place while visiting Sugar Land, tx. It was a surprise to find this place was sort of like an upscale, although very friendly lunch counter. The menu items were written on the wall, and you gave your order at the entrance, paid then got seated. Arrived just before the lunch crowd. I ordered a mushroom/Swiss cheese burger, with fries, and a vanilla milkshake (made with ice cream, topped with Whipped cream, but I had to ask for the cherry, which they gladly gave me two) . So good with the burger & fries. My lunch partner got a Blue cheese burger. I would have preferred my fires to be a bit crunchier, and seasoned but they were not. The wait time was really very quick, and the food arrived fresh of the grill. I should have specified a medium burger because mine arrived really almost charred, maybe this is the Texas way? Overall the food was good enough , very filling. The best part was the shake. I so wanted to try their desserts, which the cashier said were made on the premises.I would return for a slice of apple pie or German Chocolate cake , it looked so good. Maybe another time. The surrounding storefronts were interesting but many seemed closed, maybe because it was a Saturday and the Fort Bend courthouse which was nearby was closed? Where to start.....let's start with those damn little garlicky toasts. Lord have mercy for anyone avoiding bread, because these little yummy toasts will have you saying to hell with it....I'm eating the bread. This is a cute, charming little hole in the wall but most definitely worth a trip. We went when it was slow. I know better to go at lunch time, especially when there's slim pickings in that area. We had great service and the food, pretty delicious. My recommendation is don't skip the tuna and chicken salad.....they are to DIE for and those little toasts I mentioned before, load em' up with the salads. We tried the broccoli and cheese soup (good but watery). My hubby had corn and crab chowder (he said great flavor) but again really watery. Now the chilled avocado soup was a great surprise and yummy in a very unexpected way. Perfect for hot summer day. Chicken tenders were just average (nothing special) but once again you really need to stick to the fresh prepared salads. They are unbelievable!!!! In my opinion the prices were a bit high but I'd go over and over for the salads and toasts. I'd probably just get them to go. read more

A friend introduced me to this great restaurant - I was eager to bring my husband - I knew he would love it. The quality of the meat in their half pound hamburgers is a joy for a carnivore like myself. The side dishes are excellent and large servings. My friend's friends only order the chicken salad - which is quite popular - half of the people in the restaurant seemed to have ordered the chicken salad. We were in the area and were starving... We stopped because it was the first one our GPS and we wanted to try something different than Starbucks. Honestly, we were impressed. First of all, it is trully UNIQUE. The ambiance, the style, the decoration, the whole setup thing. It is not too well lit but is ok. If you are legally blind, it is not easy to get your way around. But if you use a white cane or someone guides you, I would say go for it. Really nice place.. VERY calm and quiet. Was embarassed by our kids talking LOUD, like really loud lol while everyone else was enjoying their meals QUIETLY. LOL Felt weird and ackward as to how calm it is. They serve food, salad, desert. They have hot cocoa that they bring in large too go cup. I was disappointed that it came in cold. Had to ask to reheat it. Which the barman was very kind and happy to reheat it in a mug before putting it back in my to go cup. Why would they give you a nice mug for coffee but a to go cup for hot cocoa? I don't know. Coffee is like those commercial coffee machines at work, where you get up and get your own coffee. Free refills. Not bad. I would say on all their menu, the cheapest was hot drinks about $2 I think. Big piece of cake or banana pudding are like $6 & up. Liked their desert, but a bit pricey. Did not have food. But did see other people's plates. Seem appealing. Believe it or not but I love their restroom! LOL The decoration, the sink. Different, unique, one of a kind. Staff are all warm and friendly. Very patient, understanding and hard workers. So you get in, on your right, you will find 3 baskets with 3 differents menus: one for dine-in menu. One for catered menu. One for deserts. Walk straight, order at cashier and go sit. You are handed a number. Someone will bring your order. If you are familiar with "La Madeleine French Bakery" style.... it is kinda like this. Great place in old town Richmond. My wife and I have eaten every sandwich and salad on the menu over the last couple of years. Had lunch there today with an associate Pastor from my church. They have removed some tables, spread out the rest and clean them as soon as people leave. The staff all wear masks as do the customers until you get to your, assigned, table. We were there an hour and a half and I saw nothing that wasn't done correctly. Service was first class, and the prices were very reasonable for this area. read more

One of my favorite places to go. The environment, the staff, the owner...it is all great! My family loves the food and especially the dessert! Sandy let us host an event here and it was handled 100% wonderfully! All our extended family and friends who drove quite a way to come were all pleased with the food, the atmosphere and the staff. My mother is a big fan of this place, and has wanted us to go for a long time. Personally I wasn't very impressed. To begin with while it definitely has a small town charm, the service overall left a lot to be desired. We arrived later in the evening, and there was not a large crowd. The waitress was less than enthusiastic. I ordered a hamburger and they made it well done, it was burnt to a crisp. Not really the way I like a burger. My father likes his coffee black but was brought creamer, and the waitress spilled it all over the table. While my father and I attempted to stop the pooling spill she just walked off, and then later found someone to clean it up. But the nonchalance was notable. For dessert we ordered banana pudding and it was the worst banana pudding I've ever had. It tasted like whipped cream with a hint of banana. The three stars are because my parents enjoyed their meals, and from what I nibbled on they had tastier choices. I'd go back to see if I came on an off day, but I'm not in any rush. read more

It's good food! But the wait time is ridiculous!! Especially when they only have one register. Maybe they should cut back on staff & upgrade to a POS system. I mean there were like 4 workers hanging around doing nothing and when the swinging door to the kitchen was open there was a "waitress" standing there on her phone. Best sandwiches ever! This is the cutest little sandwich shop in old town Richmond. You order at the counter then they give you this basket filled with delicious,buttery crusty bread pieces. Don't know what they call it, but it's heaven. I always get the turkey club croissant & it's excellent. The reason that I gave this place 3 stars is that sometimes the service is a bit lacking. Everyone is always friendly but the last 2 times I was brought the wrong order. Nothing too dramatic to keep me from coming back. I have eaten at this and the old Rosenberg closed location for 20 plus years. The last three times in only a few months we have ordered takeout for staff and it is flat horrible and their whole lunch menu used to be really great. Now just old salad greens, no meat on the sandwiches, toasted garlic bread is stale and it's expensive for sub-par dining. I continue to try hard to like this place, the max out sandwich was always the bomb ,but I'm wondering if there has been a Mgmt and staff change. So we came here for a bit to eat after the Ft Bend County parade. The broccoli cheese soup was amazing, but the egg salad sandwich was not good at all. It lacked any flavor and the same goes for the spinach salad. My husband ordered a hamburger that he had to send back back because the patty was so over cooked. Sandy McGees did try to make it right by bringing him another burger, and while we did take the replacement, he had to eat it home because everyone else at our table was done eating and ready to go. read more

I heard a lot of good about this restaurant so we went to try it one evening. we arrived at 8:30 ( close at 9 ) we were greeted by being told they close at 9. Not a good start. We were sat and we looked at menus.with in a couple minuets we were asked if ready to order I said not yet. Then another server was walking around us saying order the chicken salad. A minute later we were asked if ready to order. This continued until I just said I guess we do not have time to eat here and we left. I called and left a message for owner , she called back with in 24 hours and seemed very concerned , said that it should not matter when we got there should not have been handled that way and wanted me to let her know when we would go back in so she could make sure we had a good experience. Of course I would not call to let her know when i was going back as I did want any treatment other then what they normally give customers. Ok , jump forward 2 months , last weekend ... we went again , 7:30 this time. Greeted and said to sit any where. not long after menus we were asked what we wanted to eat , not enough time to look menu over so said no , then they came back shortly and asked again. ( so yes seems like great service , right ? But it was taking me back to the hurried up get out we want to close feeling as last visit. We ordered , had to try the famous chicken salad , and I tried the fried shrimp. sides were french fries , onion rings and green beans. The bread that was brought out was good , drinks we had water. we were asked a few times how we were doing just after the meal came out. we started eating , I drank my glass of water , but found no one was coming to check on us and could not seem to get anyone attention in normal ways for water refill. I had to get up with my glass and find a server and ask for more. we finished eating and no one had come back to the table , since we did not eat the first time I did not know if you had to go to station to pay the bill. I asked a couple next to us if we had to go pay on the way out or do they bring to table, They said the will bring to table "eventually " and chuckled as though they had been there before. So while wanting service I watched and all the servers were very busy prepping for the next day. so food ? well I did not care for Chicken salad , my date said it was ok , I thought prepared well but I did not care for the Lavender taste. The Fried shrimp was very good ! The onion rings were good. The french fries were old and stale tasting and the green beans were very mushy. So there is more ! we finally just got up and went to the register as it was clear the bill was not going to come to us , were stood there and when someone saw us they said " Have a good Night and Thanks " I said Ok but I need my check to pay. He was dumbfounded . he started poking at the screen asking what we had , I told him , poked some more and asked what table and what we had , I told him , he said some one screwed up and walked off , went to the bar like area asked a woman there and then came back , Asked again what we had , said someone screwed up . This was stupid , who cares , I told him what we ordered , just put in in and let me pay and get out , so he asked again what we had and I just did not care anymore I told him and he finally gave me a number , I paid and we left . NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN !!!! I texted Sandy , said I was wanted to talk about this , told her I had talked to her about the last failed trip. She said she remembered and could not wait to hear about this time. She was busy but would call me. I have been dining there since it opened totally a hidden gem. I have hosted baby showers there and lunch is always a treat. Robert even said prayers for our baby showers. My mother who is 96?is spoiled for the breads! I always come home with extra food due to the size of the portions. I tell everyone go once and you shall return.
