We probably could've stayed in the cabins and still pay way less than any hotels around town. I could not believe how close this was to CP. We literally turn out of the KOA and was at the light where the giant sign is in less than 60 seconds. The grounds were clean and our spot was very centrally located and it has a paved patio, a gliding bench, built it fire-pit, table with chairs and umbrella. We were easily able to come back to the campsite in the middle of our trip to eat lunch then go back instead of paying $20 for hot dog and fries, which was another big plus. I was also super impressed with the amenities. It has a pickleball court, which I've never seen before but definitely worth noting. Because it's one of their Halloween weekends, they had trick or treating, a mini carnival games thing that sells food and include games like tire toss where you're tossing heads into the tires, etc. At night, after it got dark, they literally set up a haunted house, which apparently was pretty awesome. I stayed back to watch the dogs, but I could definitely hear screams and clowns banging on some metal barrels and made it pretty legit. Being October, their 2 pools were obviously done, but there were 2 pools! We're definitely staying there again when we go back.

Patio furniture was absolutely filthy, bedroom door wouldn't latch and would not stay closed vent in bathroom leaks when raining hard .. it's over the toilet so just opened lid and it dripped in toilet. Shower was small no night stands or anything in bedrooms other than linens. Worst part one key !! Got separated from group in complete downpour and stood outside of tiny home waiting for them in the rain . Asked office if they had another key or could let me in I was told No .. disappointed to say the least. I would recommend staying in your own camper here

I will say the spots are somewhat smaller compared to other Ohio state parks we stayed at. The slots are not angled so it can be tricky to back in. They do offer lots of pull through options. Inside the campground there is a boat launch, lots of extra parking, shower houses, camp store, game room, and nature center. They don't offer a lot of activities but there were a few. My kids just loved riding our bikes up to the beach and playing in the lake. There is a nice bike bath that makes it easy to get there. There is no food in the area so bring your own or be prepared to drive.

We slept on the ground in sleeping bags. There were a lot of people making noise until about 12:30am, playing music, singing, talking and yelling. The showers were not great but fine for a campground. I went to bed around 2am when everything had died down. Around 7am, some banging started like there might be a shooting range nearby. In the morning, I explored the camping area and got some exercise. So much better than a hotel gym! I ran around, shot some hoops, and bounced on their "jumping pillow" which was exactly what I needed before a day of driving. And it was so much cheaper than a hotel room.

I was skeptical because the photos really didn't do this place justice. However - after a couple of phone calls and a couple of FB messenger exchanges, I really felt the warmth and hospitality that this place offered. They answered all of my rookie questions and told us we would really enjoy it. We ended up in one of the wood cabins and proceeded to call our adventure "glamping" because there was a full bed, 2 bunk beds, a dining table w/2 chairs, ceiling fan/light, air conditioning unit, a microwave and college dorm size fridge and outside a fire pit, a charcoal grill (like the ones you see at national parks) and a picnic table. The folks at the front desk were very friendly and so accommodating that they "escorted" us to our camp site.... literally across the driveway and 25 steps away (lol). There were a few other campers and lots of parked RVs towards the back of the camp ground. We were near the dog run so we saw lots of cute pets and nice pet owners. We even met another camping family who offered and gave us a couple starter logs so we didn't have to buy the bucket of wood for the couple of days we were there. Such a nice community! The pool was our fav spot as it was clean, low key with lots of bright and colorful big sun umbrellas and ice cream and hamburger and hot dogs if you wanted to purchase them. The second day we were up early and the staff was kind enough to let us in the pool before it technically open. We had a little burn incident with tiny hands on a hot marshmallow stick and they gave us a first aid ice pack even though we were ready to buy a bag of ice. The only reason I didn't give them a full 5 stars was because the full bed was not very comfortable and bathrooms looked like it could use an update (comparing bathrooms to a previous experience with Cub Scouts @Bert Adams). The beds are a foam type which for the full size bed it was very thick and became too soft over time. The bunk beds were a thinner type foam mattress and it was just fine. Overall the cabin was very clean - no surprise critter visitors. A couple of tips - opt for the gate card ($10 refundable deposit) - it's well worth not calling every time you return to the site. If it's a short stay, go to Walmart (5 min away) and get the fire starter log. On local experiences - Put In Bay is fun - go for the Perry's Cave, we were told by locals. Cedarlane sells the mining bags - probably save a few dollars buying it here and have it in the car with you. If you want to do the African safari adventure, go to Groupon to get your tickets.... it's fun like a drive through petting zoo but nothing extravagant so get coupons or discounted tickets. We called ahead a few days and asked about the pool and then made reservations to stop on our way back from Lake Leelanau, MI. We let them know we would be arriving late and were told it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived we had to knock on the door of the house for several minutes until a lady in her nightgown (it was still daylight out) answered. She checked us in, took my payment, gave us our gate key and we went to our spot. This is more of a trailer park than a campground, there are more large seasonal trailers here than campers. Spots are no frills, ours was pretty much a small yard big enough to park the truck and camper with water. No shade, no nothing. We could live with it due to the pools. However, when we got the kids in their swimsuits and went over to the pools...they were all closed. I found that this was deceptive since when we placed the reservation we told the lady on the phone we were choosing them because of their heated pool for the kids. She took our reservation fee and never bothered to tell us the pool closed shortly after Labor Day. She knew that it would be closed when we got there but didn't bother telling us. I went to the office to complain and was met with indifference. I went and packed up my camper and kids and on my way out demanded my money back which they refused. Great customer service eh? In the end I got my money back because I called my credit card company and issued a chargeback. I hope they got a fee for it on top the chargeback for wasting my time and gas. You're better off staying at East Harbor State Park Campground which is nearby. Even though the sites are primitive, there's a ton of things for kids to do and it has beautiful beaches that don't close down and staff that will take care of you.

So let's backtrack before the review goes full in depth…read more Originally coming to this park in June me and a buddy were planning to stay at the Cedar Point express but thanks to some bad timing on the short staff of employees to start off the year I had to rework my stay and they claimed I cancelled the rebook (to which I didn't) and they hooked me up to stay at Lighthouse point. Keep in mind, haven't been there in 21 years haven't driven any car to the hotel going by the coasters to get to our place to stay and wow was it worth it. The cabins were amazing and we stayed at room 150 (at the time of making this review the park has been around for 150 years so ironic I know) but seeing Magnum XL 200's turnaround as you leave the cabin was awesome especially when it was testing before the park opening. Beds were nice and comfortable and I wish I would've known about this place sooner than later. If you can't do hotel breakers but want to do a little more, high recommend Lighthouse Point

When we walked up to it the first thing we all noticed was the rot on our building and the front deck hadn't been pressure washed in a long while. The chairs outside needed to be cleaned as they were filthy and moldy. When we opened the door it seemed like the housekeepers had come in to clean out but didn't add any shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. There was no hair dryer. There were no cups, there was nothing extra but towels. And we spent three nights. The mattresses were lumpy. It was crappy enough sleeping on a double bed but the mattresses were all terrible. This is supposed to be the Mecca in the USA for coaster fanatics. And yes, we have been all over the USA to ride coasters and check out all sizes of parks. This was pretty much the worst place we have ever stayed in property. The food was pretty awful as well js. When you play with the big boys you have to keep up with the big boys and this is not keeping up. SMH. Loved the view.

We have done this for several years and have found that Camp Sandusky is an inexpensive choice only fifteen minutes from where we were playing. Charles, the owner; Michael, the general manager; Hannah, front office; and Nancy, the cook all went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant! The cabins were air-conditioned, clean, and comfortable. The restrooms are older, but clean and well-maintained. The boys swam in the heated pool, played Gaga ball, sand volleyball, and corn hole. Pedal carts are available for an additional charge. We had breakfast of pancakes one day and sausage gravy and biscuits the second day provided by the campground. This is presale. All cabins have fire rings and a charcoal grill. The office has ice and firewood for sale. Across the street is a McDonalds, gas station, and a Subway. We recommend Camp Sandusky for your visit to Sandusky.

The guys enjoyed hanging out together in the cabins, swimming in the heated pool, and riding on the pedal carts. The owner Charles was very hospitable, kind and loves to talk. The general manager, Michael did a great job getting us checked in and checked out and making sure that our needs were meant. Although the bathrooms are older, they were clean and their water in the showers was hot. We plan on going back again next year.

This campground is inside a small private community of Lakeside Chautauqua, not quite easy to spot…read more It's a small camp with a lot of seasonal campers but very friendly campers always willing to help. Camp is a few mins walk to the beach and their town has small stores, restos and a few ice cream parlors. We rented a golf cart for $22/hr which is the preferred means of transpo inside since roads are small and not enough parking for regular vehicles.

These wetlands are remnants of the Great Black Swamp, which once covered an area 120 miles long and 30-40 miles wide. Nature enthusiasts enjoy viewing an abundance of waterfowl and shorebirds in the park's scenic wetlands, as well as from the swimming beach and picnic areas along the lake. Our family and Apache camper began a series of visits in 1967, and East Harbor has remained a favorite. Greatly enjoyed the beaches, which now have a three-foot stone barrier to prevent erosion. We visit year round. The surrounding area has become somewhat commercialized. Lots of campers and fisher folks. In our early visits, we discussed a holiday at the State Park rather than a trip to the Outer Banks or to Hilton Head... My dear wife observed that an annual Atlantic Ocean Beach holiday was elemental to our life style.
