The location is great if you have a car. If not, it's about a 10 minute walk off the Q from Dekalb. Overall, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, but parking is bad everywhere. Myrtle has parking only one one side of the street so that's a bit rough. Come early if you're driving. The color was a lot brassy for me at the roots and I had to ask for a root shadow to bring them down. I'm grey so pretty sure that's what it was, but don't be afraid to ask them to fix it if it isn't what you want. The ladies were LOVELY. And TBH, I have so missed an old school hair salon experience. I have a salon in DC but not for color. I can't be the only one sick of salon suites smh. There are some power issues in the area, but despite technical difficulties the ladies were attentive and friendly. Healthy hair is my jam, so I encourage anyone looking for a transformation to try them out. Loved it!!! This was a glorious experience and if you're looking for a local spot where they will CARE for your hair, this is it. My hair has never felt so good after color. 10/10 for that alone.

I ran across Ella & David's. I called to get information, David answered the phone and was extremely confident and answered my questions perfectly. I asked him if he had availability that same day, a Saturday mind you, and he told me to come right in. I did not even have to buy the Groupon and he still gave me the deal- cant say he will always do this but it was a great gesture. (Either way always call before you purchase Groupon's, sometimes they just post for advertisement). The salon was as busy as you would expect a salon to be on a saturday. However, without an appointment I only waited an hour. David talked me through other options and products to assist me through my "Rome Crisis." The entire Keratin process took about 3 hours, which i expected. The salon was great! Friendly, relaxed and everyone seemed to be a regular customer was treated like family. Ive been to other New York Salons and either everyone is up tight or they treat you like cattle. David and Ella's was amazing!!! So far my hair is pin straight. I am not a fan of the texture and feel but i'll wait until i wash it to really tell. I'll also post after Rome to let everyone know how it went. LAST AND FINAL NOTE: Ella's Salon is actually a salon that was located in an area that was devastated by hurricane Sandy. David and his stylist were kind enough take out their mani pedi spa area and allow Ella to set up shop. I just think that is just a really amazing gesture.

I was leaving to backpack Europe for two months (no blow dryer, straightener or serious $$ to spend at one of my previous Keratin salons) and stumbled across the Groupon for Ella and David's. I called to see if they had availability and David said to come in that Monday (I found out when I got there he had come in JUST for me that morning.. AWESOME) and he said they would still honor the Groupon deal without me purchasing it (saves them a fee!). (You are also offered a free mani or pedi OR a trim with the deal). David was amazing and I will 100% be back to get the treatment done again. Best part: I have not once touched a straightener since this treatment and use a blow drier occasionally. A little over two months later and my hair is still air drying with just a little bit of wave. I have had the Keratin treatment done 5-6 times before at expensive salons and I would be pulling out my straightener and blow dryer around this time. Not sure if it's what David uses or how he does it.. but I don't see myself needing another treatment for a few months from now. Paid half the price I normally do and looks to be lasting twice as long. Nothing bad to say about this place at all and can't wait to return!

This take of my experience comes from someone who has had locs for almost 28 years. Bottom line, I…read morewon't return as I'd much rather have someone to CARE for my hair than to create a cute style that pulls out my hair in the process. Having my edges pulled out to create a tight, fresh look is nothing that I ever want for myself. I don't believe you need to suffer to have your locs look nice. PROS: (1) The crochet queen who did my hair was nice. (2) I was seen on time and went straight to the back to have my locs washed. (3) I thought I could get a comb retwist, but she seemed knowledgeable and said I had too much new growth and needed crocheting. After the wash, I was under the hair dryer and then she crocheted my locs in no time. From beginning to end, my appointment was just about an hour and a half and my locs were neatly done. (4) She quickly repaired a weak loc. (5) The cost was very reasonable. CONS: (1) She forewarned me that the crocheting would likely hurt a little and in actuality, for someone who is not tender-headed, it hurt a lot... especially when she was pulling out the edges that I recently grew back. The pulling happened with 2 of my front locs and it was toward the very end of the crocheting. It happened quickly for those locs, and being forewarned about the pain, I consciously chose to stay seated in her chair as she was almost done. It wasn't just those 2 locs, but the edges are so sensitive that I felt them the most, while hearing the pings of my hair being pulled out. My hair was so tight that I couldn't even make certain facial expressions without it hurting and it took over a week before I started to feel like my head was mine again. Up until then, I moved around gingerly when it came to my hair. (2) She asked if I had any allergies to essential oils and I don't, so I chose an essential oil that I use regularly and she put a lot of the oil on my scalp, so much so that it was still rolling down onto my face and into my eyes many hours later. I dealt with it because it smelled very nice. But then my scalp started itching A LOT. This is not a habit that I have and after washing my hair twice since then, it is still irritated, but to a much lesser degree now. I can only imagine that the smell good factor was a result of putting in too much essential oils and I am aware that you can do more harm than good if you don't know what you're doing when adding essential oils to other oils. I don't know if this was the case though. (3) She added this oil to my dry scalp. Maybe that is part of my scalp irritation too as I am not accustomed to having that amount of oil on my scalp unless I'm going to wash it out shortly on my wash day. My hair was so tight that I couldn't imagine washing the oil out. I chose not to do anything else to my hair until I could manipulate my hair without it hurting. (4) My locs were snapped apart without scissors and I'm glad I went ahead and separated my locs myself a week beforehand. (5) There was a woman getting the comb retwist next to me and I'd see the look of pain while she had her locs done too. The unnecessary pain and lack of true care for my hair is non-negotiable, regardless of the beautiful pictures I see on their website. Unfortunately, I won't return to the salon.

I could not be happier. She added some tracks and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted. Not only did she slay my hair but she has an amazing personality and great convo. Her process of flat ironing seemed to be longer then what I'm use to, and I wasn't even bone straight when I walked out. I was charged $75. I would definitely go back, but she would be my back up. And her prices for coloring are pretty costly $150+ for just tips on long hair.

I booked an appointment and the rest is history. The atmosphere of the salon is extremely welcoming, they play a plethora of music genres so that no one is left out. The only thing is that you must book an appointment. I do not believe they accept walk-ins as they are super booked up. I personally go to Gisele, she is my life saver and I am forever in her debt, however every professional that works there is talented. They don't settle for mediocrity, they go above and beyond every time. If you're thirsty or hungry, there are snacks and beverages that are there for you. Check them out!

I booked using the online system for the first availble and it was on a Saturday at 2pm with Nadia. I arrived at 1.50pm and like most salons they were busy, to be expected but I was greeted by Nadia and told she was finishing up her current client and would be be with shortly. I was prepared to wait, so it wasn't an issue. I explained to Nadia my hair story and she was very informative and told me what she would do if she were my stylist, which she is now and how we can work to make my hair heathy and beautiful.
