The golf course…read morewas designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr who is one of the better and more prolific designers out there. The course starts off pretty tough with some serious elevation changes and sharp drop offs (don't go long on hole1...you ball falls into an abyss). Near the end of the front nine the course gets a little more tame and manageable as long as you can avoid the hazards and trees. The greens are good sized and rolled fast and true. I made a few birdies which always makes the round more fun. After the round we enjoyed lunch on the patio just past the 18th green. It was a perfect way to end the round! While this course is one of the nicest I've played in BC, their rates also reflect their pride for the course. Peak season you'll be looking at $250+ and I believe there's better value for my money, thus making this place and one and done for golf. I checked that box and will unlikely play here again. The holes are not particularly challenging, but it's fun. Several hazards, including marshy areas and grass clippings where the ball just disappears. The most remarkable thing about the San Juan golf and country club is the customer service. I had left a sweatshirt in the back of a golf cart I called them two days later when I discovered it missing. I don't golf, but my father in law does, so he decided to take us here for lunch. This is his go to course when he's in the Whistler area, so it was a natural lunch choice for him. I have to say, it didn't disappoint. The service was great, as was the food. The cross trax fries came out hot and fresh, and were perfectly seasoned - not too spicy or too salty. They come with chipotle mayo, if that's your thing. Everyone was happy with their meal. I got the quesadilla with pulled pork, which for me. Is a gamble. I make amazing pulled pork, and usually the sauce at other places doesn't cut it. This stuff was nice and balanced between smoky and sweet. Shawn had the Big Kahuna burger, and for once the bun had the perfect amount of toastiness. I can't speak to the golf, but the grounds looked superbly maintained, and if my father in law likes playing there, that days something. I would eat there again.
