As the…read morefilming location for Happy Gilmore, it would be a must-play if they could manage the pace of play--our round took six hours, which was obnoxious. A course map showing the distances of the required carries would be a major improvement. Several holes require laying up or playing short to avoid trouble, and there are a surprising number of long forced carries. On one par 5, a well-placed layup is needed to set up a carry of more than 120 yards over 100 feet of elevation. Because none of this is visible from the tee, it's easy to start the hole out of position. The course suits my game because I'm fairly long and straight, and I ended up having a very good round. I'd enjoy playing it again now that I know the layout and could approach some holes differently. The starter gave us excellent advice to club up at least one--and sometimes two--clubs on the carries. I used two extra clubs every time, and on one hole wished I'd taken three. Importantly for women, the forward tees don't eliminate these forced carries--the ladies are still required to carry the same hazards rather than having tee boxes positioned on the other side of the trouble. That makes an already demanding course particularly difficult for women who aren't long hitters. Even laying up just short of a forced carry can still leave a substantial shot to get across. For shorter-hitting or higher-handicap players, regardless of gender, I think some holes could be extremely difficult, perhaps impossible to play as designed. The views on several holes are spectacular and among the course's highlights, although other areas are less peaceful because of significant road noise. Unfortunately, the biggest problem was the six-hour round. We didn't see a marshal until the 16th hole, and he said nothing to our group about pace. He was also the person who greeted us at bag drop and wasn't particularly welcoming in either role. Services and amenities are surprisingly minimal. There's no driving range, the chipping area is beat up and requires you to use your own balls, and towels aren't provided. When I asked the marshal/bag-drop attendant for one, he seemed genuinely confused about why I would want it. The enormous clubhouse suggests Furry Creek was once a much busier destination. Now, much of the space is bare or filled with seemingly random furniture. The pro shop has limited merchandise and offerings, with no reference to Happy Gilmore anywhere? Come on! There's a lot I like about the course itself: it's unusual, strategic, challenging and, at times, absolutely gorgeous. I'd play it again because it fits my game and a second round would be even more interesting. But the six-hour pace is unacceptable and would keep me from returning.

Winter meant a quiet day on the course and I enjoyed being surrounded by trees and the mountains. Holes 3 & 4 definitely presented a challenge, I definitely enjoyed myself overall. He then told us that we cannot golf at the 9 hole course since we didn't have a golf bag each. We had 2 golf bags for 3 people because we were able to fit two people clubs in one bag (I have back issue and my friend offered to do this to relieve the pain of carrying clubs). He refused to let us golf even though we explained we have separate clubs. His attitude makes this whole experience frustrating and we would never come back again because of this person.

The bricks surrounding each hole is quite loose which could be a potential danger for children who walk on it.. The holes were filled with water when we went (probably from the rain the night before) and the fake grass was lifting and some holes had a small portion that was filled in with carpet. All in all, the whole course looks nice from afar but when you're at each hole it looks a little bit dirty. Seymour creek's mini golf would be a fun place to come if you're in the area, want to play mini golf and you don't have super high standards.

The course starts off pretty tough with some serious elevation changes and sharp drop offs (don't go long on hole1...you ball falls into an abyss). Near the end of the front nine the course gets a little more tame and manageable as long as you can avoid the hazards and trees. The greens are good sized and rolled fast and true. I made a few birdies which always makes the round more fun. After the round we enjoyed lunch on the patio just past the 18th green. It was a perfect way to end the round! While this course is one of the nicest I've played in BC, their rates also reflect their pride for the course. Peak season you'll be looking at $250+ and I believe there's better value for my money, thus making this place and one and done for golf. I checked that box and will unlikely play here again. September is a great month to golf here. Cooler temperatures make for an enjoyable game and prices are reasonable for such a highly rated course. Big Sky is a course for more experienced golfers. The course has a 454, 14th hole named "Hang Time", if you enjoy driving. The greens are lush, firm and fast. Great amenities on site including a driving range, practise bunker and putting greens. Well, unless another wedding invite graces my mail box, there's no way I could get in. To get on the waiting list for membership is $25k on it's own. Plus, I don't wear my pants up at my armpits or take dinner before 5pm. The view is gorgeous. You can see the Grouse Grind and Vancouver from the expansive patio that faces the course. The greens look like they're kept in immaculate form. (I wonder if there's a wee little garden gnome out there in the early morning hours grooming them with a pair of shears! What else would they do with all those annual dues?) The staff is friendly, professional and on top of their game. They were awesome about bringing vegetarian dishes to the lone vegetarian at our table and kept the drinks coming! The food was decent. It's exactly what you'd expect at a golf course, although, as I mentioned, I was there for a wedding, so we possibly were privy to an exclusive menu - Shrimp Cocktail? Lobster thermidor? Dim sum dumplings as appetizers? Don't mind if I do!

Played Nick North as part of a three round weekend (also including rounds at The Fairmont and Big…read moreSky). We caught the course the day after a huge rainstorm passed through the area, and were on paths only for this round. The range was on mats, and every strike threw buckets of water from the artificial turf up into our faces. It was WET. We ended up spending most of our warmup on the practice green, and that was a good thing, because even in late May, they were rolling fast. The course itself is beautiful. Many, many memorable holes. Fairways are generally wide enough, and the rough was lush without being overly penal. Lots of water in play, but it's manageable if you pick the right spots to miss, and there are very few forced-carry situations. I'd read that the wind can sometimes rip through here, and we certainly experienced that. I am generally in the 260-275 driving category, and on some holes I struggled to poke it out there to 190 with the big stick. Makes for some long par 5's when you are playing into the wind. On the other hand, it also gives you the opportunity to play some fun shots you might not otherwise... stingers, bump and runs, and so on. Overall this is a really fun, fair test. The conditioning, even on a wet weekend, was just awesome, and the facilities are terrific. A definite must-play on a Whistler golf getaway.
