This Austin Urology office and Dr. Cuellar failed me miserably today. I've had about 40 minutes to…read morelower my blood pressure so here's my review: Today I had an appointment with ARA for 1:30pm for a CT w/contrast, I arrived early and was seen at approximately 1:10pm, at which time the nurse inserted an IV portal at approx. 1:20, they ran their blood test and discovered my craton level was raised and informed me their protocols wouldn't allow them to perform the CT w/contrast without Dr. Cuellar's approval to run the CT without contrast. They call Austin Urology and left a message at approx. 1:35 and they asked me if I'd wait for the Dr.'s Office to call back, I said I'd wait. (little did I know that my wait would exceed an hour before I was able to contact someone that actually answered the phone, the appointment desk (thanks to the appointment desk for at least answering the phone. After several more minutes of being on-hold I (not ARA) was finally transferred to Dr. Cuellar's nurse. Once I explained the situation and gave my phone to the CT Technician and they explained again and being put on hold again for almost 10 minutes, the Nurse finally said she was unable to reach you (Dr. Cuellar) at which point I decided I wasn't going to wait even longer and I was going to cancel my CT scan with ARA. So, what now Dr. Cuellar? My appointment next week was supposed to be to review my CT scan, which hasn't been done (with or without contrast). The phone system for Austin Urology is one of the worst I've experienced and trust me I have to deal with the VA's system and yours is by far the worst. I am anxiously awaiting a decision on whether or not my appointment for next week is either cancelled or rescheduled once again.

TO DR. SHAW, TO YOUR INVESTORS, OTHER OWNERS, AND TO YOUR POTENTIAL PATIENTS…read more You all are using bad business practices. I UNDERSTAND THE SURGERIES GO WRONG. BUT IT WAS MORE THAN THAT. Training moment for you all, please read. Hopefully other people can avoid this scenario. Do not use this urologist, go anywhere but here. Nothing but problems. 1. Dr. Shaw gave me a vasectomy and several days later I had a giant lump on the right side. Went back several times over the next few months to see him and only saw his associates who gave me round of antibiotics, three rounds in a row before addressing any of the problems. I would request to see him on the phone they would say yes it's with him and it would just be another person who's never seen me before. The last visit I had was with a woman who actually shot me straight and said this is not normal and did not want to give me a fourth round of antibiotics. 2. After these multiple visits request requesting him but getting a nurse or associate I Literally had to stand in the office and demand to see him, they pulled me aside because I was being a squeaky wheel demanding to see the surgeon who bought my operation. Hence, I finally got to see Dr. Shaw directly after months and months of pain and suffering . 3. He told me that he no longer uses the technique that he used on me for this very reason, he could fix it, but it's a surgery and he has to put me under and my insurance would not cover it. He also agreed he would not bill me for that appointment. He looked in my eyes, shook my hand and told me he would not bill me. 4. Months and months later I get a bill for that visit from Dr. Shaw's office. Today I called and when I questioned it, they said they would take the co-pay off and I asked if I should call my insurance agency so they can take the entire visit off as discussed. The associate at Dr. Shaw's office hung up on me. They are trying to cover their tracks on a false bill in over billing situation She then handed me over to the practice manager. Large lump is still here and I've seen another urologist to see about taking care of it. I do not recommend using Dr. Shaw because of his inability to see a patient directly after a surgery when something went wrong. I had to stand my ground and demand to see him before he would. Then he made false promises and build me in my insurance anyway. If I personally would rate him as a surgeon, I would say one star because he botched mine, but I'm sure some things go wrong. The true one star situation here is a lack of ability to address the problem, when he did address the problem he made false promises, The manager said she would call me back in three days. I'll have another post on this in three days to see if this was taken care of. I'm also contacting my insurance agency to report an over billing statement. Dr. Shaw, hello from Travis hope you see this and I'm sure you remember me. Again, the one star is not because you botched my surgery. It's because of lack of the ability to own up to it, are you going through three rounds of antibiotics for something? That's not an infection, me having to stand in front of your office and demand to see you before I could see you again, and then making false promises to me afterwards. You looked me directly into my eyes and shook my hand and made me false promises. This is on you, Dr. Shaw. I'm sure you're a good surgeon and this is not the standards of your operation. I hope this is a training moment to make your process better.

Based on our conversation and his assessment of my situation he prescribed meds, and scheduled an internal exam. The exam was uncomfortable, but not as mind bending as I thought it would be. Later, my prescription changed a little and then again. He was explaining that my body was responding and adjusting (which is a great thing). The staff has always been helpful. They try to get you in as quickly as possible, and seem to make themselves available for questions should I have any. Test results are always fast. This whole ordeal could have been super ugly. They made it workable....and not horrible. Kudos to Doc Cuellar and his Team!

Not only was I surgically in great hands with Dr. Cuellar, his support staff including Henry, (PA) and Tommie, his supporting nurse were just outstanding. For the few weeks prior to surgery, the 3 weeks I was in Austin during the surgery and for the following weeks post surgery...Tommie was just exceptional on the phone and through portal messages. Henry as well could not have been more supportive in the weeks post surgery. It was/is obvious to me that Dr. Cuellar has perfected this mode of prostate surgery and I'd recommend him to anyone considering aquablation.

I explained to the doctor during our consultation in January how terrified I was of this procedure and that I wanted both the valium and nitrous to get me through it. He said no problem. I also received a printout of pre-op and post-op instructions, which includes them stating someone will discuss with me specimen collection. Well... 1. I was not administered the nitrous as requested, and as a result, I was entirely too coherent during the procedure. 2. The doctor failed to adequately numb the area prior to beginning the procedure, which, as you can imagine, resulted in incredible discomfort. After I yelled out, he apologized and applied additional numbing medication to help. 3. There was literally no post-op follow up discussion. Basically just snipped and left. No one bothered to check in on me or go over the specimen collection process as stated in their printout. 4. When I was paying the bill before leaving, I did not receive any kind of detailed statement to clarify what all I had just paid for. And then they billed me again for something that 1. I had already paid for and 2. Something they never even gave me (the Fellow kit for specimen collection). While the doctor's bedside manner was fine, it would have been nice for him to thoroughly explain how the procedure is done and what kinds of things to expect and where. Something as simple as "hey, this is where you are going to see incision marks, this is what those incisions will look like afterwards, this is how much post-op bleeding you should expect, etc.". Instead, I'm left wondering if I'm going to end up with scarred testicles that do not look right or feel right after everything settles down. It's a very uneasy feeling. Looking back, the entire process was disjointed and uncoordinated, and I'm not happy about it. Now I'm just praying the doctor did the job correctly, so I do not have to endure that nightmare again.

I had this appt scheduled for a month or more. Erin called me to reschedule but wanted to reschedule me for the Cedar Park office rather than Round Rock where I was scheduled. I told her that was too far and she asked could she call me back in 10 minutes. She never called. That was Friday. On Monday I left a message early am I left a message and staff said she would send a rush message to Erin. She never called. I called again that afternoon and staff told me message was sent that am and she would send another one. Still no call. Every time they have wanted me to do either PT/ new procedures they have wanted me to go to Cedar Park, which I did on one occasion. Now Vicky told me on Friday if I didn't go to Cedar Park it would be January which is totally unacceptable as I have already waited for an extended period of time. I have attempted to get Erin to return my call as she said she would do with no success. Dr Bruce is absolutely great but I have only seen him on 2 occasions b/c I always get set up with the nurse practitioner . The staff is totally irresponsible. I understand doctors have emergencies they have no control over but I should have to be put back past others who will get their scheduled appts and they should try to work with the patient to work them in some way. Would not recommend this practice to anyone. My gynecologist was the one who referred me there so I was expecting this to be a great experience; not the experience I have gotten.
