I first saw Dr. Amar Shah for an in clinic examination and assessment for a ongoing medical issue…read more I had previously seen a similar type of specialist through another hospital the previous year, and it was absolutely horrendous. I felt personally violated. So I was very nervous going into my first appointment Dr. Shah. I chose Dr. Shah based on several good reviews that I read online. His bedside manner was as explained in the reviews. Very kind, very patient, very informative, very "gentle." We discussed all of my options. I felt like he really took his time with me. He and I decided on the best next course of action for me to get well. For only the second time in regards to this very painful and potentially dangerous medical condition, I felt HEARD. Specifically, that Dr. Shah understood my trepidation and concerns about upcoming medical procedures. After my initial consult, somehow something got lost.In translation. Dr. Shah did refer me to another specialist; however, it was not as we had discussed in office. Since my initial visit, I have had a subsequent telehealth with Dr. Shah. Once again he addressed all of my questions. And offering telehealth is so incredibly convenient, particularly when mobility and transportation is an issue. Next step is to readdress a new referral and move forward on my medical journey. I feel like I'm in good hands...physically and metaphorically. As far as the clinic, making an appointment was really simple. Everyone at the front desk is super nice and helpful. My in office appointment was right on time. I set in the very crowded waiting room for about five minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend Dr. Shah for your medical speciality care needs. He manages to make the really not so fun and scary stuff somewhat not as bad. :)

I want to preface this by saying my review is not about Dr. Muñoz, but rather his office staff. My…read morehusband has been seeing him for over a year, and has been very happy with Dr. Muñoz. The only problems we have had are with the office staff. My husband was added to my insurance at the beginning of this year. He came in this week for a required follow up appointment to refill a prescription. He gave them his new insurance card, and was told that this visit fell under the 1 year pre-existing condition part of our benefits, and these visits wouldn't be covered until Jan 15, 2015. It's about $100 a visit without insurance, and I just spent $400 backdating his insurance to start Jan 1, 2014. So I called my insurance company.. surely a general well visit to refill an anxiety prescription he's been taking for over 4 years now should be covered, right? My insurance company said this was what they considered just a regular office visit and all we should have to pay is $35 co-pay. They also stated there were no stipulations or provisions on our policy pertaining to his anxiety medicine, which we disclosed in his application with his medical history, that would consider this a pre-existing condition. I asked them what I should do next, and they said to call the Dr. office and have them call the insurance company. She said anyone there would tell their office the same thing she told me. My husband had already left the office at this point because we didn't want to pay out of pocket for the appointment when we have insurance. So he called back and told the Dr office to call the insurance company. She said she already had and that they did not know what they were talking about because they didn't have my husband's medical history. Since she was so uncooperative, I tried to call myself. She refused to speak with me, insisting I was not authorized in the matter. Even though it is MY insurance plan and I am his WIFE. My husband had to call and give them permission to speak with me (even though I am pretty sure he filled out a form saying it was okay to release his patient information to his wife - they didn't bother to check his file for that paper). She finally called me back and went on to tell me she had been dealing with insurance for many years now and she knows that this will be considered pre-existing. She also said that the insurance company was wrong because a claim would have to be filed before they could determine whether this was just a general office visit or a pre-existing condition. In that case, wouldn't you treat it as a general office visit at the co-pay amount, and then bill us if the insurance later decides it is considered pre-existing? That's how every doctor, specialist, etc. I've ever seen has done things. She said they have an office policy that they won't do that. So I let her know that is very unfortunate because now Dr. Muñoz would be losing a patient. We very easily called another Dr. in our network, they got us on the books for today, and assured me we would only have to pay the co-pay, and that she had also been dealing with insurance for many years and had never seen a prescription follow-up appointment fall under pre-existing condition clauses. She asked that we do call Dr. Muñoz office to have them fax over his lab work so they didn't have to do it all over again.. which was another pain in the butt! We called them for 2 days straight and got a recording every time, until today. She said because this wasn't a referral from Dr. Muñoz, but rather us choosing to see another doctor, we had to go to the new doctor's office and sign a consent form that they then had to fax over to Dr. Muñoz before they would even send it over. Even though my husband was giving verbal consent to have the records sent over. It was just routine blood work results that they were asking for. She said every doctor's office does it this way, even though our new doctor is an example to the contrary. Our new doctor office tried calling for the results and got the same hassle we did. She asked that in the meantime, before sending the consent form, can they just tell her what blood work they did so their office would know what to draw for his appointment today. They got put on hold for a long while and no one ever picked up. She called back and the lady in Dr. Muñoz office told her that she was too busy with a patient. This was just an overall nightmare of an experience and they really didn't try to work with us or make anything easier because they thought they knew better than us and the insurance company. It was a lot of unnecessary stress and last minute scrambling that we had to do. I feel bad that Dr. Muñoz had to lose a patient, one that had been paying out of pocket without insurance for almost 2 years no less, just because his staff insisted on making everything so difficult.

Dr. Schneider is been my Physician and my family primary care physician for years. I referred my…read moreown mother and stepfather to be cared for by him. I'm a surgeon myself, so is my husband and I have sent a good number of friends his way. He's a "doctor's doctor." Many of the surgeons I know use him as their personal primary care doctor. He is an intuitive caregiver who anticipates problems and gives concise, thoughtful and very helpful medical guidance. Actually as I'm writing this I'm reminded that a few years ago he made an offhand comment that maybe my husband should have a colonoscopy. Apparently Dr Schneider documented this in his medical record. When we were applying for life insurance and disability, the insurance company required us to get all the testing that had been suggested and was documented in the records. Because my husband is too young to qualify for a colonoscopy based on screening guidelines, we had to pay out-of-pocket to get this test. Fast forward, during the colonoscopy they found a giant polyp which according to the gastroenterologist would've been invasive cancer by the time he was old enough to qualify for screening. No family history, no symptoms, a silent time bomb sitting in his colon. So I guess you could say that Dr. Schneider, in his typical intuitive medical Sherlock Holmes style , preemptively cured my husband of cancer. And there you go, the doctor's doctor.

She commented on whatever she was focused on (which I also can't recall), which I was confused by. Usually, "Hello, I'm so-and-so." are how normal humans greet one another. I came to her as a middle aged man with recent abnormal growths on my anatomy that sometimes means cancer. I was scared to death, out of work and also without insurance, so I was paying a significant out of pocket just to speak with her. After her examination she told me it was benign, in a scoffing manner. As if I somehow bothered her with my request for help. As if I was some hypochondriac in her office daily. TBH I wasn't even sure what benign meant entirely, but she seemed so annoyed at me, I just wanted to get out there as quickly as possible. If you want to be treated like cattle, you'll find the care here sufficient. The front desk and nurse staff were pros, however.

I came to her to get a much needed surgery. We agreed on a date (June 21) but she didn't tell me next steps. I waited a week to hear back and had to call them myself to get an answer. I was told I was "tentatively" on the surgery schedule but they were needing confirmation from the hospital and they would give me a call about it when they knew. I never got a call, had to call Again Myself and was told the same thing, that it was "tentative" and someone would be calling me about it from her office. I had to call them Again and at this point all the RED FLAGS are definitely UP It's a week out and I was told the hospital would be calling me THE DAY BEFORE to confirm everything. I said well that's crazy because no one has even freaking CONFIRMED this for me not to mention I have NO COST ESTIMATE. So I said well at this point can you please tell me what dates you have in August (because Dr. Aleman would be out all of July). I said please hold that June date for me until I figure out when your next availability is. Then the icing on the cake this morning I FINALLY get a call back from them telling me Dr. Aleman is on the other end to speak to me herself. I was relieved thinking we would finally get this all cleared up! Dr. Aleman answers and IMMEDIATELY starts REAMING me OUT (before even letting me get a word in edgewise) saying "IT'S PATIENTS LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME WANT TO START CHARGING EVERY TIME YOU CANCEL A SURGERY DATE! I HAVE MOVED PATIENTS AND MY SCHEDULE AROUND JUST FOR YOU AND NOW YOU WANT TO CANCEL." I was literally floored/stunned. Never in my long history of working with doctors offices and scheduling (MANY) surgeries have I had SO UNprofessional of an interaction with not just a doctor's staff but the doctor HERSELF/HIMSELF! I literally started crying right there on the phone (because I have been in SO much pain and needing this surgery for years actually now). I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude and tried explaining my situation. I wasn't even trying to CANCEL this last minute I simply wanted to reschedule until I could freaking get some more communication about it!!! Her office acted like no patient ever asks for these things! Dr. Aleman blamed it on her having a "small practice" with no billing department, etc. And she suggested I try to work with another office. Well you better believe I COMPLETELY agreed with her!!! I recommend staying FAR away from this office especially if you intend to have a surgery with Dr. Aleman. You can have the smallest office in the world but it doesn't mean you can't maintain professionalism and kindness ALWAYS.
