Today, I visited Sand Dermatology in Chino Hills for the first time after my wife's medical insurance changed providers at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, my previous dermatologist did not accept the new insurance. I found Sand Dermatology on Yelp and read through the reviews before deciding to call and schedule an appointment. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The office was bright and modern, the waiting room was spacious, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. After being shown to the examination room, I waited only a short time before Dr. Pham came in. She introduced herself and asked how she could help me. I explained my concerns, and she performed a thorough upper-body skin examination. Dr. Pham not only addressed all of my concerns, but she also noticed a few things that I hadn't even been aware of. I left the office feeling very pleased and confident that she genuinely cared about my well-being, even though it was my first visit with her. While I liked my previous dermatologist and would have continued seeing him, I often felt that some of my concerns were not taken as seriously especially after going there for well over a decade. With Dr. Pham, every concern was acknowledged immediately and addressed thoroughly. If you're looking for a new dermatologist, I highly recommend asking for Dr. Pham at Sand Dermatology. Thank you for the follow up. First time patient for an annual skin check. Check in was smooth and quick - I like that they embrace technology. Wait time was minimal. Then came the visit with the NP. It felt like they may have been having a competition to see who could get people seen and out the door the quickest. She was thorough with the check but when I asked questions the answers were very short like she didn't have time to talk with me. On the way out, they requested I pay a deductible because they had not checked my insurance since the appointment was made. They explained that if I was due a refund, they would do that later. I should have requested they recheck my insurance but the gal was pretty short with me and seemed cranky about me having the gall to ask. If you are in a hurry - this is the place to go. read more

Just an update to how competent and honest Dr Pham is. I had been told I had to take a medication that is really more of a poison to kill malaria because my previous dr told me I had discoid lupus. I took this toxic drug for years, having annual ophthalmology exams to make sure the plaquenil wasn't causing damage to my retina and vision. I trusted that previous doctor at his word. Dr Pham had a suspicion it was not a correct diagnosis and requested my records to see what the results were of the biopsy they took that lead to the diagnosis of lupus. She was so upset when she saw the actual test results. Nothing indicated discoid lupus! She immediately stopped that medication and probably spared me a lot health issues in the future. The first dermatologist actually had no clue but instead of admitting he made something with no regard for me. Dr Pham is a dermatologist with integrity and will be honest about everything good or bad. I am doing so much better now after her smart catch. read more

I'm writing a review for my one time experience here at Sand Dermatology back in 2021. I am aware it has been almost four years since my visit, but I am still struggling to this day because of the physician's incompetence. I developed guttate psoriasis in September 2021, and it quickly covered my body and very negatively affected my quality of life. Due to having public insurance, I could not wait to see a dermatologist covered by insurance, so i came here as a cash patient. My visit was $250+ for about 10 minutes with the doctor. Right away, he set up a plan that had me come into the office four or five times (doesn't this seem like he's trying to make money off a cash patient??). He said we would not do biopsy until we've exhausted every other option. He told me he had no idea what I had so he just prescribed me random medications based off his guesses. He prescribed me permethrin for bed bugs (it wasn't bed bugs), and oral and topical steroids. I was prescribed 40 mg oral prednisone. For those that don't know, 40 mg is an insane dosage to start a patient on. The physician also failed to mention any side effects to watch out for, and that this medication needed to be tapered off of. I was started on this ungodly amount of steroid medication not knowing the side effects or really anything about the medication at all. In combination with the steroid creams, my sores went away like magic. BUT, that relief only lasted for about 3 days. I started getting extreme palpitations, insomnia, and weight gain (common signs/symptoms of prednisone but he never warned me). I was advised by a different provider to taper off the medications, but as soon as I went down in dosage (even to 30 mg), the psoriasis patches came back angrier, redder, and in higher quantity. I was previously 40% covered, but after this, 80% of my body was covered. I became a severe case, but I did not even know what skin disease I was battling with at the time. I lived in agony because of this physican's lack of knowledge and incompetence in treating skin diseases. I am genuinely confused on how a dermatologist, who was likely top of his medical class, was not familiar with what psoriasis looked like. After 4+ years in training specifically in skin-specific diseases, isn't it expected that someone would be able to identify one of the most common skin diseases? When I finally saw a different derm months later, he was able to guess that it was some type of psoriasis even without a biopsy as soon as he walked in (it then confirmed with a biopsy). To this day, I am still suffering from the after effects of what the prednisone did to my metabolism, and I wish I never came to this clinic. i have dual insurance so you would think they would take at least one . instead i got put on hold and then told that i can't use any ? i would be a out of pocket patient and then they will bill my insurance. Why even ask if i have insurance then ? it was fine when i wanted to use my ppo but when my secondary insurance was hmo that's when i got told i have to pay $160 just for a consultation. FINALLY I found a good dermatologist. I have been needing a good skin DR for years. Thankfully I found this place. I was referred by my good friend. Dr Sand was so good w me, he knew a lot and he helped me so much in my one visit thus far. I am planning a trip to Hawaii in a few weeks and he gave me some tips and some products I can use while in Hawaii for my skin. I'm going to return to his office after my trip and continue treatments. I'm also so grateful that he's an actual doctor not a nurse not a nurse practitioner not a PA. All of those medical people I listed are great but when dealing with serious skin issues I love that I can work with an actual board-certified medical doctor here. And - the staff here / let me tell you about them: the staff here are trained really well. I can tell this office has trained its staff by very professional individuals, it's very obvious it's a serious business and the customer service, care and knowledge is here. Today was my first visit at Sand Dermatology. My appointment was with Dr. Pham, who was extremely kind and caring, even going so far as to call us before our appointment to let us know the local traffic conditions so that we would be able to make it on time. I was very impressed with the calming atmosphere of the office, and the kindness and professionalism of the staff. I received a thorough exam, and immediate treatment for the few issues I had. I've never looked forward to going to the dermatologist before, but I am actually looking forward to my follow up visit! The office is up on the latest technology, and we were able to do most of our check in on our phones before we even got there. They even go so far as to have phone chargers at almost every seat in the waiting room with multiple connectors to accommodate any phone or tablet. well done! read more

My daughter had this really bad rash that started a few months ago. We went to many different doctors and finally found this facility on Yelp. Shout out to Lupe for getting us in within the day to get my daughter checked out. Filling out the forms is easy to do. The staff is friendly and helpful. The office is clean and everyone was required and also observed wearing mask while in the waiting area. Definitely felt comfortable being there. We've seen the doctor approximately 3 times and all 3 times he's listened to our concerns regarding my daughter and has taken the time to explain his diagnosis and treatment plan thoroughly. He also gave excellent recommendations and what lotion to use for eczema and didn't force us in buying what they have at the office to sell. I also have some breakout problems with my Rosacea on my face and Dr Uddin wrote up a prescription for some cream. It all seems to be working. Dr. Sandhu is the "Cat's Meow"! Long story, short. I fell on my face on Thanksgiving Day. No! I was not drinking, just a freaky accident. ER (St.Jude's) did a "fix it" with stitches under nose, edge of nose and underside of top lip. GP follow up but because it was facial I decided to see Dr. Sandhu, as well. Sand Dermatology didn't have to see me or give me an impromptu appt but HE DID. He also quickly decided to remove stitches ER had done and redid the stitches to minimize scars. WOW!! Stitches are now removed...it looks great! One more kudo - ER stitched inside of upper lip with self dissolving stitches. BUT one stitch didn't dissolve, it rather puckered up causing pain and discomfort. Once again Dr.Sandhu looked at it, quickly numbed my lip and removed the bad stitch. I know it's long and probably not necessary but this gentleman doctor is FABULOUS. People should know when doctors are great. We sometimes complain instead of compliment. I had Mohs surgery today for a Basal Cell Carcinoma. Dr. Sandhu is friendly, gives a complete explanation of the procedure with follow-up instruction, and performs the surgery quickly. I want to share my acne story so that anyone else dealing with acne can read it and hopefully go see Dr Sandhu like I did. Seriously, I wish I went sooner!! I had been dealing with acne since 2016. Primarily around my chin, jaws, and cheeks. About a year ago, I noticed it starting to flare up more again. One thing about my acne is that it was very very persistent and would never fully go away. I had tried so many different products, treatments, and multiple rounds of antibiotics. I did it all but see a dermatologist (???) My mom finally convinced me to see one because she saw the mental toll my acne had been taking on me. I found Dr Sandhu online and decided to make an appointment. At my first appointment, I literally broke down crying as soon as we started talking and the doctor was quick to grab tissues and be reassuring. My acne had broken me, made me feel ugly and insecure, and had even been stopping me from dating the last 3 years! I was such an emotional wreck and felt defeated. It's hard to explain unless you've had persistent acne for years that just doesn't go away. Him and his staff were very kind and understanding towards my feelings. After trying a couple different treatments, I was eventually prescribed isotretinoin. It instantly cleared my skin!! I remember touching my face in the mornings to check for those painful, deep pimples and being so shocked that I had none. Side effects could be a little hard at times but minimal for the most part. My acne disappeared and the post hyper pigmentation started to fade. It was a long 7 months but totally worth it!! Dr Sandhu and his staff made it really easy to do the monthly appointments, pregnancy tests, etc. He has great bedside manner and actually listens because he remembered our previous conversations and small details about me or what was going on if my life. I highly recommend going to Dr Sandhu if you've been struggling with acne. He'll help you with the right treatment and isn't afraid to go more aggressive in his approach. I'm punching myself for not going sooner! My skin looks amazing and my mental health has improved so much. I'm so happy I did isotretinoin and had such a great doctor to guide me the whole time!
