It was fun to see the Misfits take over this space last week incorporating tons of art and warmth into the interior design. It's a walk through a nice village filled with memorabilia donated from the 1880s and 1900s. There are many antique homes, banks, drug stores, antique cars, planes, church, telephones, saloon, barbershop, ice creamery etc, to see from long ago. We had a super day and learned a lot. They also have an 80-ton train engine, caboose, pullman carriage and train snownplow in their train shed. It's a bit dark in there but absolutely worth a visit. You can walk through the caboose and the pullman. The airplane display also includes an ambulance and a snow vehicle. The helicopter is retired from service in Vietnam. You can walk through the C-47. Gliders, bi-plane, jet. It's a really good collection. Then you have the antique car cillection, agricultural machine collection, Telephone museum, and on and on. So much history in one place. There are picnic tables on site under full sun. Do be sure to bring water and wear sunscreen and a hat in summer as you will be walking between buildings. Public restrooms are in the main building and the church basement. The gift shop sells soda and water aside from toys and gifts, etc. Private parking lot. This museum might look…read moresmall, but it is jam-packed with Art that challenges, that makes you ask questions, that inspires. Bonus: the price of admission is FREE so you can visit as often as you want. My favorite exhibit hosted by The Rourke in recent years was TransNodak, which was "a photo series about twelve local trans people living in/from North Dakota." The gallery talk with the artist was both moving and educational. My favorite piece from the permanent collection is a sculpture called "Cream Puff with Frogs." It is exactly what it sounds like, and I never pass by it without pausing to smile. Weather-permitting, don't miss the sculptures on the patio to the West and the pollinator gardens to the East! Across the street, between M&H and Ace Hardware, is a small area called the Sticks Garden, which features pillar sculptures by local artists as well as beautiful flowers in the summer. They went…read moreout of their way to make sure I was happy with the song selections and play for the evening, and they were very flexible as well. I had my sister play the bagpipes during the wedding party's grand entrance. Hardly conventional, but Travis and Missy rolled with it. They helped call everyone out to the dance floor and announced us, but the bagpipes were still the star of that particular section. We had also planned to do a bouquet toss, but at the last minute I couldn't find my bouquet so Travis and Missy cancelled it. They were also great at reading the crowd and keeping everyone engaged. They played some slower songs and polkas for the older couples, and kept my cousins on the dance floor until the end of the evening. They even brought little giveaways like inflatable guitars that were a hit with the kids. They were on time and got everything set up without any hassle. They acted as MCs and made all the announcements. They always checked with me to make sure they were pronouncing everyone's name right, had the right order of events, knew who was giving speeches, etc. Overall, they were great to work with, and I would definitely hire them for another event.
