After roaming around the confusing streets of Toledo for what felt like hours, I was finally ready to find a place where I could sit, eat, relax, and people watch to recuperate. Walking from the main plaza, I stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall that sold everything Spanish from tapas to paella. I was ready.
The wait staff here spoke a tiny bit of English; I'm sure as a result of the entire city of Toledo being so touristy. I knew that prices were going to be higher than what I was used to in Spain, but at least I had some time to unwind from all the cathedrals and monasteries.
I was given a table outdoors that was accompanied with random live music. I ordered a seafood paella (11€) since I was craving for some carbs, along with a glass of tinto de verano (my new favorite drink in this country). Meal began with complimentary bread and olives.
The paella came in a hot sizzling plate that looked like it was ready to burn the rice sitting directly on top. With two pieces of mussels, calamari, and shrimp, it was a rather basic paella that left me wishing I had ordered something else. It wasn't the worst, but definitely not something to write home about.
Luckily they accept card here, and I have to say I enjoyed the setting and ambience. Hopefully next time if I return, I'll look to try other items aside from paella to fuel me for the rest of the journey. read more
