One thing to note about Spain, it's very difficult to find a good restaurant that your American…read morekids will eat at and enjoy in Spain. The Spanish don't do sweet, they virtually include zero spice (I'm not just talking about spicy, I'm talking flavor too), and they love their cheese, the more potent the better. Therefore, Italian food has sadly become our go-to in Spain with the kids. For this reason, late in the evening we needed a meal and found/sought out this place because it's Italian. Upfront I'll tell you this, it's not good but it's not bad either. First off, the place is tiny. Most places in Spain are so that's not a surprise. Our party of five had to be separated and seated at two tables away from one another. However, what was surprising was that the entire restaurant was at least 20 degrees warmer inside than it was outside, which depresses your appetite significantly. They don't have menus but they do have what I consider to be the worst thing to ever happen to restaurants, the dreaded QR code (http://www.pastucci.com/wp-content/uploads/CartaCascoIngles.pdf). The menu consist of pasta, pizza, lasagna, apps, and desserts. Our party had the Margarita pizza, pepperoni pizza, melenzane lasagne (eggplant lasagna), and penne la funghi (penne pasta with cream sauce and mushrooms). The pizza was good but extremely greasy, the penne was very good, and the melenzane was gross, soggy, slimy, basically a lump of sizzling goo. The food took forever to prepare and deliver but each dish was hot. In total, this meal cost us about €63, not too bad for five. The bathrooms were clean and unlike most Spanish restaurants had paper towels to dry your hands. Plus, they had a female and male toilet. However, I'll let you be the judge on which is which since one is a blue angel and the other is a red devil with a dress. Overall, not a horrible experience but I probably will not return. The food left much to be desired and the wait time was incredibly too long. I guess the kids will just have to be good with tapas and tortilla next time we're in Toledo.

We stumbled upon this restaurant, we could see the bright lights on a dark road. The staff were very attentive and provided our drinks/food in a timely manner. We made it easy and just ordered a large pepperoni pizza. It was good, and hit the spot. There aren't a lot of pizza places in Toledo so I'd come back for another pizza craving if I am ever in Toledo again!

After roaming around the confusing streets of Toledo for what felt like hours, I was finally ready…read moreto find a place where I could sit, eat, relax, and people watch to recuperate. Walking from the main plaza, I stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall that sold everything Spanish from tapas to paella. I was ready. The wait staff here spoke a tiny bit of English; I'm sure as a result of the entire city of Toledo being so touristy. I knew that prices were going to be higher than what I was used to in Spain, but at least I had some time to unwind from all the cathedrals and monasteries. I was given a table outdoors that was accompanied with random live music. I ordered a seafood paella (11€) since I was craving for some carbs, along with a glass of tinto de verano (my new favorite drink in this country). Meal began with complimentary bread and olives. The paella came in a hot sizzling plate that looked like it was ready to burn the rice sitting directly on top. With two pieces of mussels, calamari, and shrimp, it was a rather basic paella that left me wishing I had ordered something else. It wasn't the worst, but definitely not something to write home about. Luckily they accept card here, and I have to say I enjoyed the setting and ambience. Hopefully next time if I return, I'll look to try other items aside from paella to fuel me for the rest of the journey.

Rules for eating abroad…read more.. 1. Never eat anywhere that has pictures of food on the menu. 2. See rule #1. When my fiancee and I arrived in Toledo, we were starving. We intended to grab a bite at nearby Ludena, but it was closed. Most of the other restaurants in the area were as well. So we saw the outddoor plaza of Sancho y Panza and our hunger got the best of us. We violated Rules #1 and #2. The server we encountered was the most surly we faced in all of Spain. He had one long black hair growing out of the front of his nose. He practically threw the menus and food on our table. He looked like the sidekick of a lesser Bond villain. Anyway, the food here is not good. I ordered the 11 € quatro formaggi pizza and I'm fairly confident it was simply a frozen pizza. It had the telltale hard crust and burned cheese on the outsides. Super dry. When we finished our meal, we wandered out into the streets of Toledo to see so many better restaurants opening their doors. Do not fall victim to hunger. Buy a Kit-Kat if you have to. Just don't waste your money at Sancho y Panza.
