There were lots of families at the playground and everyone seemed very inclusive. This park is near the Don Harrington Discovery center and they had a fairly large tortoise living on the outside premises. It was neat. I would like to come back to visit that museum. All-in-all .... This park was the best part of Amarillo on this stop through.

There's a large playground, the Amarillo Botanical Garden next door and a 1 mile loop around the pond which made it easy to do my runs. I was warned about the geese infestation and the possibility of geese poop on the trail. I didn't see any while I was visiting, but I thought that was worth noting. There's an extended part of the trail but you have to cross traffic for it, so the one mile loop worked best for me. A lot of people were walking the trail through my three visits, a school bus was there with kids in the playground and on Saturday plenty of people were fishing in the pond. A really great and well maintained park!

It is filled with gravel or small Pebbles and there is a partial fence around it. There's lots of beautiful green grass for running and playing ball and walking dogs and some pretty trees to offer shade when they're full of leaves. We saw lots of families here when we brought the kids here to play. There is a church next door and a school right across the street so it feels like a perfectly safe place to bring the kids to play. Children under 12 and veterans (after registering) are free. A loop road, constructed by the CCC in the 30's is a quick drive. Picnic areas dot the park and an ampitheater where shows are performed, and a coumter service restaurant are open in summer. About thirty minutes south of Amarillo, it's a quick side quest, worth a visit. Check out the state park website for details and make a plan.

A day pass is $8.00 and is good till 10:00PM (you can leave and come back). They give you a map as well. You can drive the whole thing and see a lot from your car. There's also plenty of pull-offs for picture opportunities. For ones that like hiking, there's plenty of that there. I'm not big into hiking, and I also didn't pack to do so. Lol. There is cave you see from the road, and if you want you can do a short hike to it. I wasn't on planning really hiking anywhere but this was short enough. Easy to get up, going down you have to be a lil careful. Good place for pictures too. Camping ground are available too. Anyways, if you're in town visiting or never have been there, I definitely recommend it!

The other people working out seem to clean up after themselves. The only bad things I've noticed are one man that consistently has to remove his shirt to walk past the child drop off and pick up area. That seems very odd. The front staff noted that it seemed strange too but did not address it. (No swimming area near that location) The shower doors do not stay closed and constantly open. The staff told me to shove a towel in the door to prevent it from opening. And the last is the staffs wiliness to open a locker without verifying its owner. Some staff have commented on several thefts resulting from this yet, they continue to hand out the master key and open lockers for whoever asks them to with zero verification. Recently I have noticed that some gym members choose to use the hot tub naked. This is actually a misdemeanor when other adults are there and a felony if children are present. The manager appears to be attempting to rectify the problem but the staff are failing to follow through on their part. Kinda has me wondering why a facilities staff is overlooking grown men exposing themselves to other adults and children? This is a deterrent to use it as you're gambling on their personal hygiene, I don't want to sit on another mans skid marks. I was assured when I agreed to sign up that this did not happen here and clearly it does, Also keep in mind that the public hot tub is open to those 18 and older but no one in the locker room appears to be enforcing gym policy and state laws, so there is a good chance that a naked man will decide to climb into the hot tub with your minor child. The staff are most certainly aware that this is happening (Bennett, a manager, even justifies adult men exposing themselves to minors. Disgusting.) it happens on the hot seats too, so keep that in mind before you sit down on them. These items are easily addressed. I would leave children at home to avoid the man removing clothes near their area and bring a gym bag that you can carry around with you to avoid others and thieves being permitted access to your locker and its belongings by the staff. And be sure to wedge your extra towel in the shower stall door to prevent it from opening. It was be very nice if the staff that walk around in the locker rooms checked periodically to ensure that the members are conducting themselves as they should

There is plenty of open space for kids to run around and there were places for parents to sit nearby where you can watch your kiddos play. The only issue we had and it was a big one, is that the bathrooms were a nightmare. I am not exaggerating when I say that they looked like they came out of a post-apocalyptic video game. My kids, who are but neat-freaks by any definition would not even go in. In fact, my son opted to leave the park entirely and go find another public restroom rather than to use this one. There was poop smeared on the floors, toilet paper and it looks like it hadn't been cleaned since Davy Crockett had been in Texas.
